News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2971]

Surely anyone who eats eggs and is against abortions is a hypocrite...

<_<

derp?

I will, if required, shout in the streets my right to SLAY (not murder-Im EATING it) a fellow biological non human and EAT it! be it carrot, fish , fowl or beast.

So, are you gonna start on how Lions and other obligate carnivores should be vegan? what of the life that is in the trees that sustain us? The vegetation we eat. So next is pills of fake nutrients that we shall take until we sicken , die and go extinct ? 0 _0. I mean that is where that logic ends at ya know

Was that really the best argument that could be found?

Would I consider an egg "life"? Certainly. But I can easily announce my intent to remove life from something and give the motivation..its material is my sustanence. It is biological imperative that I process it's life to extend my own. Abortion does not fit that category in 80% ? of cases? Motivation for those is: Oops! Must kill for Convenience/quality of consumer lifestyle.

Hardly comparable I would think.
When candy coating of dehumanizing words is removed..abortion is killing a life. No matter if the decision is legalized or not.. approved of or not.

The biggest question is does the mother have the right to take this life out of the world, specially when a majority think one shouldnt remove the life of the most sick and degenrate criminal murderer and instead reap the taxes needed to sustain him. Personally I'd feel better with emptier prisons via death penalty (yes KILLING..but not an innocent new life. Or just consider it- RETROACTIVE ABORTION) and those funds going to Orphanages that actually have tools to RAISE children and FIND them foster families if not permanent love.

Murder is a very personal decision. I cannot make anyone do what I think is right. I just don't want my taxes paying for it.

Life / Abrupt Poles explained ! [51]

she is constantly telling me how soft the language is.

English was my third/fourth language... the most spoken were Bohemian Czech and Portuguese. Also Basque, German, Castal, Cherokee and smatterings of celtic. as reflected where we started and where we'd been. My full Russian in -laws spoke, dominican sp. , 3 dialects of chinese, thai, french and german. And english of course.

I fell in love with spoken Polish for thinking it "softer" than Russian, Czech(with exceptions of certain words), German, Cherokee. even Basque my ears still remember. I like it better than french. The person I exchange language with is quite personable and polite.

When I saw this post I was curious but really couldn't see it..and "rudeness" only direct answering and pragmatic logic.

And my dearest is ever so polite in speaking in English. Genteel. He was abrupt at times.. like when leaving call. Not so much now that we are involved.

Makes me feel like m'lady is gonna get tacked on any second. and he is nothing but kind and helpful to his two younger sisters that barge in his room on any given. Even when annoyed he doesn't raise voice or say very rude things (that I can tell).

Inflections sound like a raised voice sometimes but the content points it as tonal.

Off-Topic / What's your connection with Poland? Penpals. [512]

Though I could in theory maybe have a lil Pole in me.. (since my Bohemian bloodlines Weis and Baginksi came from Prague at a point in history that my research stopped? ) My only real connection is the man that has asked for my hand to marry and the fact that current plan is to move there from the States in 5-6 years. So I have that amount of time to get .."pol-arized" ^_^ so I may feel at home quicker.

yes im bored and up too late

Life / Prevalence of Autism/Asperger's in Poland? [6]

fairie folks getting hold and causing the changes or being a complete changling

Got it in 2. Though my spelling was incorrect.
Changling stories are in my family bugaboos.

And here I had a child that was reading simple books (dick and jane style) , bilingual, named his own pets and got up early one morning to do dishes to a child wild eyes and spinning and incapable of speech or understanding instruction in less than 7 days after 24 hr fever and trip to ER.

Here is a site with some good info

ah here is the info. Though he had no personal knowledge of anyone close, so was unsure. But my Lech was worried that my son may not get need therapies and accomodation in school while it counted, if I come east to him. Especially after he read up on the condition later.

Life / Which animals are native to Poland? [58]

Then there is a wasp, a hornet. And if you are allergic, you are in a trouble.

In insects; I only have true allergy to small sub-hornets called yellow jackets.I can't remember the species anymore. They are small and have nests in alcoves .often in trees or house eaves. and are pretty angry

Wasn't Poland the last country to have living Aurochs in modern day ?

Wonder why it doesnt come with normal search? Hmmm ..but Poland was one of first nations to make wildlife preserves....even if for a kings hunting pleasure they still wished the species remaining

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

Eastern Europeans have more of a golden colour in their hair

My Dearest is very pale & "golden" in hair and skin. So are his parents and two sisters. He says also his cousins. All blue eyeed. They are in NE Poland.

My Bohemian bloodlines are Moonflax blondes with with grey eyes until recent generations, than often darken with age sprinkled with redheads and dark walnut hair. The shade of my hair and my skin are actually more from that bloodline even though ironically it makes me look more cherokee. We age very well and very late. and are tall.

My Russian X and his family have greyish blonde hair that is lighter when young but is very silvery and dark by the time they hit 30s with high cheekbones and slanty eyes. His mother was first generation stateside..she was born in China.

My MIL was lovely. Her mum, brother in kids did NOT age well.

Language / Need Advice On Polish-English language barrier (my Polish boyfriend and his family) [59]

I wonder if it just these guys are missing some consideration or is it my guy is unusually indulgent for a native.

Back to BF support.....
Though he never suggested about teaching me, when he found out I'm learning he is now amused, flattered and supportive. He said Polish can be a difficult and "tongue breaking" language for some. I can say some things quite well now. I am not ready to practice with him yet since I really want our time while separate devoted to something other like lessons. And I'm afraid he will let me get away with more mistakes. ^_^

But I'd be very hurt and somewhat uneasy if he discouraged my learning AND put me in situations where it was all that was spoken around me : (

I am also not under pressure to learn, which may make me able to feel better practicing. I WANT to learn, just for me. Even if he ditched me tomorrow-it is still a present to myself

My biggest obstacle is sounds I cannot even make proper in English. Types of G H and S. Though it is all I speak now, English was not my first language, heh not even my second.

A small advocating for the devil: Not everyone can teach or will attempt. My mom could not teach me to drive a stick or ride a motocycle ...she simply did not have the patience despite keenly wanting me to do so. Nor could my former spouse. But when I learned, my teacher taught me within a week.

Life / Prevalence of Autism/Asperger's in Poland? [6]

p3undone :Rysavy,I have a nephew who has Asbergers

In another thread this reminded me...

What is frequency reported of children with Autism or Asperger's in Poland?

What is usually done and how long is it before diagnosis?

What programs are available? if any...

Also is indirect relation; What are vaccine schedules like?

I have Asperger's as many in my maternal family do (im only one that was slacker and didnt become an engineer of some sort). A manageable condition.

My youngest was diagnosed with Autism at age 3 after migraine and a fever spike allowed the fey to take him. He is worlds apart in his symptoms compared to what I am accustomed to regarding Aspies.

Anyway.. one major point in my not yet thinking of going to Poland and bringing my affianced here instead ; is running the gamut of programs with my son until he has reached an age past most strong rehab ability. As well as a good five years working here can save a nice tidy sum. So now I wonder

Love / Should I forgive my cheating Polish girlfriend? [73]

You know what they say, 'Trust is like a broken mirror, you can fix it BUT you will still see the crack in the reflection'.

She broke trust..it taints a relationship forever. And rarely can be worked past. Plus they say once a cheater always a cheater... So was the case with my cheaters.

A little consequence fell because you indulged her for being younger than you; rather than hold her to a standard at least respective to her adulthood.

You would not be an idiot , but you would be a masochist. The whole situation says she respects you not. :(

Call it a day and look for some bandages to wrap your heart and heal. There are many lovely wonderful; girls out there than can love you for yourself , and be faithful and supportive. She might someday, but not likely do it for you.

I am so sorry for you... I have been there and it Sucked

Life / Blasphemy not OK in Poland! [54]

I must say seems a bit strict... but was it ALREADY a law?
If so; he gets what was coming to him..regardless what the law was or if he had any "respect" for it. Especially breaking a law in a public manner *shrug*

Doesn't matter to me if it is speed limit, litter, health dept (dog poo & such), hitting someone or spitting on the sidewalk. I have to adjust from state to state when there are things different. We still have states with dry counties opposed to wet and with blue laws. With exceptions..most statutes are selected in ballots as yay or nay in Propositions. So its what that locality majority more. And I certainly enjoy FL sharing many of my home of record AZ's gun carry laws.

US stilll has several states with blasphemy laws on books..some made law as late as 1977( is that? Penn? MD?). But 20th century US Supreme Court usually rules them against 1st Amendment when they are brought that high

Though one could get nailed for Anti-semitism in laws if you tear a Tanahk/Torah up in public

Food / Polish roast pigeon anyone? [17]

But there is this Polish saying: "pieczone gołąbki nie lecą same do gąbki" (roasted pigeons do not fly into your mouth by themselves), which means "nothing in life comes easy, with no action". Evidently roasted pigeons used to be known as a delicious dish - considering that they have been elevated to the proverb level.

. ^
Heh.. Exactly... || ^_^

I am kinda funny about food that is tidbits. Only exception is well cooked fish that is eaten whole (liek kippers).
I've eaten and enjoyed many foods not in mainstream; but making a favorite of it? It isn't the taste so much.
It's too much work to eat or worse I have to handle it..... specially since I developed bad habit of near eating whole my food like a winter wolf (I know my father spins in his grave every time I have supper).

I do not eat buffalo wings often or short ribs for same reasons. I enjoy hunting small game for the challenge but not frequent since I don't "sport" hunt. If its is not going on my plate, I am not hunting it.

Language / Polish slang phrases - most popular. [606]

tachi szeebna holeda

Taki Dzie w ___ _____? I see Szee as Dzie. If you speak it sloppy like me.

And that could be a " A day In"

but it would be colleqial and not literally "in hell" (like my Hunny telling me to be very careful saying how much I like to have ice cream if I talk about it same way in Polish as I do English. I had him so cracked up. I guess it is allergorical for...<_< >_> BJ?)

It doesnt sound much like Bohemian in that context..but I havent heard it spoken since I was little

heh I would think so... not how it works I guess. (He got all embarrassed over it when I asked what luck they bring anyway so I didn't press)

Not mention if those big ugly monsters were in the house afterwords (maybe polish storks are diffrent?).
Still a huge nest on one house must be a pain in some way. But if they are lucky ..well they can join my rosemary sprigs, horseshoes over door, rabbit foot in left pocket (poor rabbit didnt find it lucky -I know), a corner spider, cricket in comon room and a blue door. ^_^

If he thinks it, I will indulge.....

I saw some up close in germany visiting family when I was little..they are kinda scary! No ...are scary

Those piggies make me think of javelina the way the little ones are colored. Ive hunted pig in Texas and Sonoma Co. CA
THIS is what I see in my mind when I hear "wild pig"

SO .... criteria:if you had large immigration influx, have a settled, modernized city, have some growth and employment available and finally everyone is equally able not not afford overhead and draw benefits..you win? 0_o

If it was growth and employment alone, they woudl have to explain why native people go to work in other countries.

Okay; that is pessimist view, but I remember when Phoenix Arizona was a GREAT place until NAFTA. Not sure I'd wanna be on the list. Now it is near my broadcast time, so I take my grumpy self away.... throw some lime, vodka asn crushed ice in my lemons and make margeritas

History / "Westerner's" most ridiculous beliefs about the time of communism in Poland [73]

I dont know if I would be considered average Westerner...

It was highly romanticized when mentioned in my family... or at Church. Though Poland was not singled out often in itself and not just "one of the betrayed" behind the iron curtain. When mentioned it was like moral freedom fighters clinging to ethinic identity and not forsaking the Church to embrace the State religion of (cue* dramatic music and indrawn breath) communism like some countries did. Church alwasy wanted to "help" and asked for donations in that regard.

My father (he was QUITE a bit older than my mum) had also served with some Polish officers during his time as pilot in WWII and added his own spin of favorable review.

*snerk*

In general? belief about life behind curtain was controlled access to infomation and goods with strict reprisals for "mavericks" and religious suppression.

Love / I live in Holland and i never meet a good polish guy. [33]

OP: You are not clear what you define as "good" in your criteria

Even nationality aside....... it is hard for anyone to suggest best place to look without knowing-

Your age or a lil older?
Working or established in a career
Looks : don't matter? well enough or is very handsome
"pure" or halfer?
On his own or with family support local?
Classy or casual?
Polite/mannered?
Gallante?
Marrying kind?

In the latter criteria you are more than likley than not to meet a "nice boy" of marrying kind at church. Catholic church probably, if Polish.

Even then you have to sift some..bad boys are everywhere...specially abroad. In my family (we are catholic Bohemians and Portuguese) it has been caught that "good catholic boys will sleep with non catholic girls but only marry a catholic...even in this day and age.

Otherwise especially if you are stuck on nationality..maybe go where a larger Polish community is or go to college/get a job in Poland?

Food / Any królik (rabbit) fanciers on PF? [76]

ever had Caribou or Moose

I've had Moose jerky but don't know if that would be fair representation of taste. Never had any caribou in any form.
Never hunted either. I did hunt Bison allowed to free range on my land in Texas before I had to sell it.

Food / Any królik (rabbit) fanciers on PF? [76]

Not big fan of small game like squirrel, quail and the like. Squirrel and some rabbit is a bit gamey but I do like rabbit. It is very chicken like in flesh when good. I have had most of these in casserole or pie, but will eat rabbit as a meat. I like larger meat cuts but if I'm filing larder by hunting I will pick up rabbit for freezing and eating later.

I like venison. I loooove antelope. Elk is very good.

Love / How can I make my Polish guy comfortable while in States? [12]

Put Prince Polo in his bedside drawer

Oh no..only Charlemagne Belize for my choco-holic (how did you know?) since he is susceptible to additives and dairy. Visiting trip abroad?Hmm. And I loved my bimmer but think he might wish a mustang

Cooking I have covered I think. I can make pirogie from scratch... to start. And crepes (omlete) He actually doesn't eat a lot of "Polish "food. Lots of chicken and Pizza when alone. I think I eat more "polish" dishes simply from cooking czech. He is a teetotaler as well. Bottled water & Tea (and chocolate).

As for the family, I hope time and missing him will make them relent. But I'm sure a few well thought gifts can sway the sisters (little one sneaks and talks to me on skype when he goes to kitchen already. Asked me why somebody pretty like me even talks to him...lol! , funny lil girl) and even the dad. Mum and set a of grandparents? maybe never *sigh*

And I'm catholic...though bowing and scraping to a husband's mother in law was already a given >_<
