News / Palikot - too liberal/modern for Poland? [197]

and whatever you say is either funny or pathetic, rather than logical. Spiteful in most cases.

Yep, that's my observation as well.

History / Communal living in Poland [5]

In Russian big cities after 1917 it was a common thing and it persisted until 1980'ies even if it was tapering off on account of new housing that was built. In Poland however this was not a norm. No surprise we do not even have a word in polish for "kommunalka" or "obshchezhitye".

Language / "No tak"; The Oddest Phrase In Polish For This American [75]

[********************* don't know too many native Polish speakers who would understand what's written above

It's an easy text. Perhaps you should hang our with those Poles who finished at least 9 years of schooling? :-)

Language / Slavic accent correction [110]

True, mostly. But if you ever have a chance to listen to Lower Sorbian (dolnołużycki) as spoken by those born 100 years ago (recordings exists) you'd think their language is no. 1 on that list. Unfortunately that language is dying and most of those still speaking it have had their pronunciation destroyed by the ever present influence of german.

Life / Advice needed on Dental implant in Poland [119]

Let me check again. If you visit their address at: eurodental.pl you will see three locations. I used one on Nowowiejska 37. Yep, had implants done and other work. Costly. Whether more costly than smaller cities... I wouldn't know but perhaps it's true. After all they're in Warsaw and not in outlying areas. There are many other clinics who do implants in Warsaw. Google would be your friend in this case :-). I was satisfied with their quality even if my wallet felt lighter :-). Then again you have to compare your local prices vs. Warsaw and then factor in costs of a flight (two or three really) and a hotel. Perhaps some smaller locations have lower prices and would be worth visiting assuming you can find direct budget airlines to them, like.... Gdansk, Poznan etc.

Life / A detailed description of the Easter tradition in Poland [41]

how are you celebrating this important festival? Procession, palm-making contest, Easter duty (confession), Easter fair, Passion Play, etc.?

I went to a couple of pubs to have a bit of fun. :-) It was a good evening.

Language / "No tak"; The Oddest Phrase In Polish For This American [75]

The polish word "no" is simply an emphatic particle. It serves to emphasize the point a speaker is trying to make.
For example:

Weź to! means: take it!,

while

No, weź to! means: take it already! (could be said to someone delaying reception of an object which is being given, offered)

News / 18 Miners trapped near Wroclaw [14]

Energy=Money. Obviously! "Also add extreme environmental damage that will last for generations?" There is no reliable proof of that. In any case, it is in the country's best interest to become less dependent on russian energy, therefore it will accept certain risks, if any.

Shale gas fracking is something Poland definitely needs and if it appears there are any chances of obtaining energy from it we will most certainly use it.

News / Czechs most liked by Poles! [35]

Exacly, but when you go to Romania, like I did a few years ago, you see that Romanians are really nice and also good looking people.

History / A legacy of Serfdom in Poland? [7]

You see, it was not all that clear cut as you would think. For example, polish szlachta sat in the same church alongside their serfs, peasants, during sunday mass. Could that be said of blacks in America and their masters?
