USA, Canada / Rodeo Ben the "Polish Cowboy" [46]

Rodeo Ben was known in the United States as the "Polish Cowboy." He worked for Wrangler Jeans Company, during the late 1940's. He tailored outfits for famous cowboys, such as Roy Rogers. He was born in Lodz, Poland in 1893. He died in Philadelphia, PA in 1985. His birth name was Bernard Lichtenstein.

I've included his photo, along with a vintage Wrangler advertisement & Rodeo Ben label. Is anyone familar with Rodeo Ben? Does anyone own any of the clothing items that he had designed?

Please don't change the topic of this thread, by associating his surname as being tied, to Jewish or German origination.

Thank you!

USA, Canada / How do I find my 2nd cousin in IL possibly Chicago? [15]

I cant knock onto someones door and ask if they know where the previous owner is

You can look up the address on US White Pages, to see if current occupant's phone # is listed.

You can also look up a property owner's name under Tax Accessor. Try checking the information provided, for the county in which they live.

Language / Learn Polish or Russian [86]

So pretty much I'd rather learn Polish but I'm a little iffy on the decision to.

If you have the opportunity, I say go for it!

Jehova's witnesses in Poland - how to deal with them?

If they are in the habit of handling out their little Watch Tower pamplets at your job; be sure to tell your Human Resources Dept. I'm sure HR will put a stop to the annoying problem immediately!

Law / How long takes a bank transfer in Poland? [12]

Financial transactions now operate at a level that leaves Germany, the UK and the US back in the stone age.

Do larger monetary amounts sometimes postpone transferring of funds?

Travel / How come no one ever seems to pay for the bus in Poland? [63]

(many inspectors are in plain clothes, that is non-uniformed but with an ID badge

Do any of the inspectors ever boot the fare evaders off the bus then & there, as opposed to issuing a monetary fine to pay?

Travel / How come no one ever seems to pay for the bus in Poland? [63]

only seen a handful of people (all tourist looking) ever pay for the bus

I wonder if Poland imposes hefty penalty fines for fare evasion, as they do here in California and other parts of the United States...

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

Houses in Southern California

In order to lower my monthly mortgage payment, I first paid off a large amount of the prinicipal balance. Afterwards, I had my loan refinanced at a much lower interest rate. That's why my monthly payment is dirt-cheap. Much less than most California resident's rent or car payment for that matter.

Food / Your favourite Polish foods! [180]

Everything in moderation - even bread with smalec sometimes

I tried smalec; just can't acquire a taste for it.

Native Americans eat it in the United States. They simply refer to it as bread with lard & salt.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

Do you live in a cardboard box?so low?(Imean mortgage amount)

Haha, that's funny. My home is a cute 4 bedroom Victorian.

Riverside is comparatively cheap. What do houses cost now, about $200k?

Still some good deals in the $200k+ range in parts of Riverside County.

My mortgage amount of $450.00 per month is basically atypical. Many homeowners are experiencing foreclosure or remain underwater payment & home value wise. This situation tends to happen a lot, when people get 2nd & 3rd mortgages.

Real Estate / What do you pay in rent/mortgage in Poland? [144]

Some of you pay twice as much in PL as I do over here!

Same here. My mortgage in Riverside, California is merely $450.00 per month. Includes principal, interest, taxes and insurance :)

Utilities may vary during different seasons. Such as today, I've been cranking up the air...

Love / What strange/unnerving/funny things do your Polish wives do? [153]

funny things do your Polish wives do?

Some Polish wives have a tendency of answering a question with another question.

For example: Husband asks, "Have you see my Keys?" Wife replies, "Where did you leave them?"

Travel / What do you think about hitchhikers in Poland? [33]

we were talking about experiences in general

The only hitchhiker I had noticed in Poland resembled a prostitute. I was surprised to see her hitchhiking along the countryside, while I was on route from Warsaw to Treblinka.
