History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

CK, a lot of the damage was done in the years 1939-1941 to Poland.

WWII started in 1941. Setting it in 1939 would meant that you fall into total voluntarism. Why, in this case simply would not just set 1936 as the real starting point of the WWII?

The Americans joined in 1942 and things took a different shape.

Pacific Ocean! You forgot to mention that it was Pacific Ocean which dose not have any relation with Polish affairs.

History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

World War II, or the Second World War[3] (often abbreviated as WWII or WW2), was a global military conflict lasting from 1939 to 1945,...

It is nothing more than convenient starting point for Poland and its misfortune allies France and Great Britain. I am sure that for Spaniards it started back in 1936 and for Russians in 1941. It would be too bold for me to assert that Russian did not participate in 1939 campaign. However, why then Brits declared war with such selectivity, only to Germany?

Get back on topic and stop sidetracking.

Yes. I am proud. I dare to suppose that millions of jews who happened to live on territory liberated by Soviets also would say something grateful for this "occupation".

History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

Certainly not. That was just side effect. Partition was just the act of supreme justice. We simply returned our own lands lost during time of troubles of civil war.

History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

So it was defence through offence?

Exactly

OK, I can accept that logic in a way but why didn't you fortify your own borders better?

Lack of time

Returned our own lands? Sorry, I don't follow.

All these territories were predominantly inhabited by Belorussian and Malorussian branches of Russian people. These lands are not Polish however nostalgic they were about them

"These territories" and "these lands". Which ones are you referring to, specifically?

Lands seized from Poland during the partition of 1939.

though it is hard not to poke fun at guys like CK who try to revive decades old soviet propaganda just because his current PM is a Stalin fan boy lol

It is ridiculous, how you represent and understand current situation inside Russian society. Believe me, nobody here adore Stalin

History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

It is designed for teachers to promote patriotism among the Russian young, and seems to follow an attempt backed by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to re-evaluate Stalin's record in a more positive light.

The key quotation is this "By Chris Irvine 8:25AM BST 03 Sep 2008". Can you please cite any Russian governmental source of Stalin adoration?

History / Why did Russia attack Poland in WW2? [178]

It is produced by the country's leading school book publishers Prosveshenije, a state-supported company that used to have a monopoly on the supply of classroom texts in the Soviet era.

The book, A History of Russia, 1900-1945, will be used as a teaching guide in Russian schools, 55 years after Stalin died.

To your understanding of modern situation with education i Russia; there is no centralizing supply of teaching books in Russia. Each school is willing to choose its own textbooks for teaching process. The word "recommended" dose not automatically mean that exactly this book will be bought by the particular school.

History / What are the key features of the Polish Eagle? [56]

In a very simple way. Peter was alfa and omega of Russian life in those times, he was russian Jovi. He both created Preobrazhensky regiment and commissioned its march.

very interesting. now can we get back to the topic.

History / Russians 'tortured to death' in Polish camps? [58]

The camp in Strzalkow was built during the war of 1919-21, when Soviets attacked newly released Poland.

But who gave you the right to proclaim the independence?

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [214]

Each true Pole, not blinded by the Prussian and royalist cabal, is convinced, that our Fatherland can only be saved by Russia, otherwise our nation will be enslaved".

Golden words...

"About past Poland and Poles [I don't want to talk anymore]. Gone is this country, and this name, as many others have perished in the world's history. I am now a Russian forever."

...and reasonable choice...

Any evidence? You know, real evidence that suggests that Russians actively monitor websites, and for what purpose.

Yes, he is right, we are watching you... Every more or less interesting polish article related to Russia is translated in the same instant and becomes the part of Russian Internet humour...

History / 1772 – Russia, Prussia and Habsburg Austria began the First Partition of Poland [9]

My dear friends,

Today I opened Wikipedia and saw the following: 1772 – Russia, Prussia and Habsburg Austria began the First Partition of Poland to help restore the regional balance of power in Eastern Europe among those three countries.

I decided that this day should not be overlooked by my polish fellows...))

History / 1772 – Russia, Prussia and Habsburg Austria began the First Partition of Poland [9]

For pity's sake guys, you should know that it is hardly Russia has to be blamed for.... This idea came first from Parisian cabinets and was intended to avert more serious disaster as war between Russia and Austria might be. There was no any sense for Russia to divide Polanf, for it was Russian protectorate state without any forced actions. However, Russia was forcibly faced with the fact of partition by Prussia and especially Austria who feared Russian successes in war with Ottoman Empire.

Why a war between Austria and Russia at that time should have been a more serious disaster for Europe than the partitions of Poland?

This war would be certain devastation for Poland in first turn, because it would carried on principally in Poland, for, as you rightly mentioned, it was buffer state. However, it is a question which state Poland would sided in this conflict. Partition in this situation was the lesser evil.

A natural bufor zone between them vanished and as soon as the three partitioning "black eagles" had stopped being preocupied with the threat of the Polish state being restored, they gripped themselves by their throats

The fact is that Poland always was buffer state against Russia. Simple fact that next conflict between Russia and Germany took place only more than one hundred years later, clearly indicates that all partitions and eventual dissolution had been right things to do.

Quite contrary, war of 1812 perfectly shows what independent and "buffer" Poland may be for Russia.

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

At the same time around 1.5 million Poles were deported to Siberia where half died in the two winters they were there.

- "Tell me, what happened with Poles?"
- "They frozen to death..."

Actually nobody here (in Russia) had even a slightest idea that Poles were so vulnerable to frost. Russians gave to Poles what Germans fought for - vast living space in the East. But Poles were too weak to make it their home....

Love / Connecting with GAY MEN IN POLAND [52]

If you didn't say it, would anyone walking down the street know that you are gay? Or do proudly flaunt a gay rainbow for all to see?

I dont like to show off my personal sexual preferences. Besides i left gay scene two years ago. It is so much permeated with drug abuse, you know kinda mephedrone, alphaPVP etc. I find it is dangerous though i am not too addictive.

After all i am married and have kids, so have a bit different life accents.
