Life / Poles and the temperatures they heat their homes [36]

absolutely true

maybe it's a regional thing. My family's spread all over Śląsk and it's just the opposite with them.
If I was there now I'd probably be layered for dinner! lol
But they do own the best comforters, pierzyna, I've ever slept under in my life :)

Language / Busha and JaJa [140]

a lot of Poles came during the mass exodus and settled in the prairies

as did my mom's parents, who made Winnipeg home.

His tactic once used to drive me up the wall as well, but once I got to know it, I'm having fun instead.

I too enjoy (but I was never perturbed by it).

He's very clever on the intellectual front and very manipulative on the psychological one (a true tycoon of the modern "New Age" era?)

Very well written narrative.
I truly enjoyed reading it.....gratuluje!

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Rybnik, do you know that according to some studies, there is only 10 % of trust in society in Poland, that is VERY LOW

Wow, that is pretty low. However, totally understandable knowing the people.
You've had a tough time of it.
You're probably an optimist, as I am, and it's hard on us.
But you got it out of your system and hopefully, you're good for another few months lol
Trzymaj się!
Don't let the negativists get you down.
we are all channeling strength to you right now. :)

yep
I was raised in a household where both parents were from Poland.
You can imagine the fun we had in my house.
Between mom's cynical attitude towards everything and everybody and my father's "don't trust anybody" life with those two was anything but a bowl of cherries. lol

I'm just curious as to what the natives are kwetching about now (in the era of democracy and free elections)?

Fact is Busha is only used in the U.S.

I recently asked my 85 year old ciocia from Silesia about this word. She tells me in all her years she has never heard this word at all.

Love / Are Polish men old fashioned? [16]

speaking from experience and from the other side of the equation, I agree 100% with this statement. I didn't appreciate how hard it was and I didn't take into consideration the mental cha nges that were going on at the time inside my wife's head(and body). I was a complete młot (dummy). I needed to be enlightened.

Love / TRAVELLING to Poland - Girl Advice! [29]

you sound like a thoughtful and conscientious person. Good for you.
Poles respond to respectfulness. Just don't act like a jerk of*!
You'll be fine.
PM me if you'd like some background info especially as you approach your departure date.
Powodzenie (good luck)!

Love / TRAVELLING to Poland - Girl Advice! [29]

most girls in Silesia region will not speak good english especially if she is 18 going on 19.

Don't listen to this one Mark.
My people are from Silesia, actually quite close to Tychy. If you are as you say, shy and not self-absorbed, this girl will be interested. Most of the teenagers I've encountered have a working knowledge of English.

Language / Usage of Polish Instrumental Case? [22]

I feel a little stupid asking again...

don't feel that way!
keep asking questions until you get it.
Polish grammar is very difficult.
No one gets it without shedding a few tears.
I'd like to help you but I'll defer to Boletus.
He's quite good at this.

no one, not even the rcc, has the right to tell anyone, especially women, what they can do to/with their bodies.
On this one I'm with Palikot 100%.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

For minor offences (like drinking beer in a public place, jaywalking etc) they don't arrest them

Hmmm
So my question is do you think the police extrapolate the courtesy when looking at more serious offences say DUI?

News / Is Jarosław Kaczyński the new Lech Wałęsa? [74]

We want a neutral government to further Polish interests

This is such a disingenuous statement. What does thai even mean, a neutral government?!
Does it mean neither liberal nor conservative?
Does it suggest a less-than-enthusiastic coalition?
Does that mean Kaczka is now promoting a centrist government?
If so, that automatically disqualifies him as credible!
I'm really hoping and praying that the people of Poland see through this.
Or, at least, demand specifics.
