News / POLAND TO BECOME THE NEXT GREECE? [28]

If not a fact that a lot of their debt was lent by German and French banks

* sarcasm alert

Who had absolutely no idea what was going on in the country whatsoever - eh?

Sure as far they were concerned Greece was totally stable with a healthy economy and this was all just business - absolutely no problem in getting the loans paid back.

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

A British immigrant, who came to Poland for a paycheck or for other selfish reasons

I love this one.

So the Poles who have settled in the UK and Ireland in the last 7 years or so were all motivated by altruism?

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

The exact definition of etiquette is the customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group. Manners are either a person's outward bearing or way of behaving toward others,

Assuming your "exact definition" is 100% correct and beyond debate then I don't see how what you say really contradicts what I posted.

Note "customary" !

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

"Foreign" owned businesses, factories etc ??

This is quite normal for open market capitalism. It goes with the territory.

Should Poland perhaps give back some of the billions in foreign EU funding ?

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [124]

Ah it's fine Seanus. It's too difficult without examples, you're right.

If I think of any I'll post them.

Still, I think the forum and life will still go on without this pet connundrum of mine being solved!

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [124]

ANNNYYYHOOO...

Really, what I was originally getting at was the structure/type of joke in Poland.

Sense of humour is a different thing - I happen to think that certainly among the Poles I've met anyway, our sense of humour is similar. Similar in terms of situations or things that we find funny, the surrealism that exists in everyday life, the ironies, human quirks and personality types - all that stuff. I can say things or make observations that I don't need to explain the humour of, and vice versa.

It's just when it comes to actual jokes, that tumbleweeds start to roll by. It's wierd.

Like I said, it's almost as if sometimes the purpose of jokes in Poland is to be clever or in some way satirical and actually being funny is secondary. It's the other way round for me.

Maybe it's just me or maybe things are lost in translation a little - but I don't think so most of the time.

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [124]

I simply cannot believe the arrogance and blinkered insanity of this polmed person

Polmed:

You are racist

Polmed:

tittle hater

This was before I "called" her anything, and after an anti-semitic outburst.

What's more she wilfully chose to completely misconstrue comments I had made - and tried to represent the opposite.

She is one of these strange people who think that they can say whatever they like and are immune from any criticism. She also seems to think that she is automatically deserving of respect somehow.

If he has observed sth bad

Only Polmed herself Seanus - her "opinons" and hypocrisy.

Not to mention her selective interpretations of other threads.

Pretty difficult to take you seriously Polmed.

That wasn't a joke either by the way.

This by the way is the same lady who

has someone tried and convicted as being a rapist already (it's "obvious" you know)

thinks Germans are dehumanised fascist robots

thinks anyone who disagrees that Poland is the best country in the universe must therefore hate Poland

etc etc

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

no problems and they don't even speak english. in and out. fingerprinting takes a few seconds on an electronic device.

I don't doubt that it's a speedy and relatively hassle free process - it is not the point though. It's invasive and I refuse to be treated like a criminal.

you're blowing it totally out of proportion which is why I am sure you have other reasons for not wanting to come

I. DON'T.

What's wrong with you? I have nothing against the US & I don't know why you are assuming I have ?!

I have enjoyed my trips there and there are still places I would have liked to have seen & experienced. I won't lose sleep over it though as there are plenty of other interesting destinations on the planet too.

hardly a reason to boycott a country

Well for me and many others - it is. Maybe you should in fact "get over" this simple fact : )

trust me, you along with the others you speak of boycott trips to the USA for other reasons.

Eh no we don't Fuzzy.

Who is paranoid now? I happened to like going to the states but I won't be subjected to fingerprinting, retina scans etc.

Simple as.

News / British man prosecuted for raping teenage girls in Kraków [47]

You don’t waste much time to seize the opportunity and attack the Church

... and the OP doesn't waste time in highlighting the case in the first place, making sure they point out:

This "expat" is still "contributor" according to the other thread.

I hope he gets what he deserves

If he is guilty, I'm sure practically everyone would agree.

probably all this security issues at US airports don't help tourism

From my own experience, I'm sure there is an impact. Since the post 9/11 security measures I haven't returned to the states and will not do so. Many people I know have taken the same position.

UK, Ireland / Polish Prams & Baby Travel Systems [12]

I've been told that prams and indeed even baby clothes/items generally are very expensive in Poland.

Prams tend to be an expensive item in any economy so I'd think twice and do my research carefully if I were you OP.

Life / Are Polish people so chaotic and disorganized like Germans say? [89]

OK, different thing but it still has a distinct whiff of bullh1t and xenophobia about it.

It's quite common for countries who have dominated others to make these claims. The Spanish say it about the Portuguese, The English have said it about the Irish, The French I think say it about the Italians (ancient animosity) etc etc.

It's a sly indication that they need governance, control - because they can't even organise themselves.

But maybe independent of this, Poles simply actually are more disorganised as a group than others - somebody has to be I suppose : )

I don't think so. I know some that are a bit disorganised but some that are very organsied. Most are in between.

I think it says more about the infamous German repuation for obsession with efficiency and order than it does about Poles.

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

I saw that in Poland too.

Well I've seen it in Ireland too as it happens! It was just a singular, random example. The countryside in Provence is full of lavender. The sheer regional variety in French landcape is amazing - it really is like lots of little countries within one sometimes.

Paris seems to be dull and overhyped.

Overhyped, probably - but only because of the enormous name & reputation it has to live up to. Doomed to falling short in some ways really.

But dull, no way - and grey buildings??

I don't know where you get that from. To be honest, and no offence, but when anyone says grey buildings, after Russia, Poland would be the first place that most people would think of!

I have been to France a number of times (including Paris) and really it is delusion and fantasy to think that Poland can compare or even come close. Poland is not without charm and beauty but I think you would be very lucky to find any non-Poles who think it is a more beautiful country than France. It's even a bit sad and laughable to hear the suggestion really.

Maybe it's because saying I was in Norway doesn't sound as good as saying I spend my holydays in France?

More likely because Norway is more expensive.

One problem in Poland is a total lack of coordinated effort to advertise the place.

Seems to be very true.

Amazing that more effort isn't put into this - potentially large income for relatively little investment.
