In a democracy it's assumed that if you don't vote than your vote is in the majority, not the other way around. 25% or whatever is certainly enough to gage the mood of the electorate. Your question makes my point. The Swiss have pegged their franc to the Euro so that it won't appreciate and affect their exports and imports. They're doing it to protect their economy. Greece, Spain and Italy do not have the same luxury as they are tied to the Euro, thus 50% youth unemployment.

When I'm in England or watching an english show of some sort it always amazes me the quality of people living in the Council Estates. If you want good job market and safe living conditions: North Dakota, something more metro...Minneapolis. If you want Polonia, Chicago, maybe suburban Detroit.

If one wants Polonia. The above cities is where they are, among others. If she wants a stable social situation, low crime rate, good schools, low unemployment, etc., she'll have to migrate to the American hinterland: North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, MInnesota etc. but she won't find a recent Polonia there. Polish Americans but they'll have little in common with recent Polish emigres. If she wants urban living, Minneapolis. If she doesn't mind smaller towns, Bismarck, Lincoln, Des Moines, If your skeptical, crime stats, education stats, employment stats are easy to check. These states rank highest in low crime, education and low unemployment. But she won't find a Polish sausage within 500 miles.

Yes, I agree. Unfortunately recent Polish emigres don't gravitate to the most attractive places. The best I can think of is Northwest side Chicago. Artur makes a good point about New England but unfortunately they are not as welcoming to strangers. She won't have that problem in the Mid West.

Research Triangle: Raleigh, Durham. South Carolina is more provincial, more socially stratified but no hurricanes. If you're interested in that region you should consider Virginia Beach, Va. and Savannah, Ga.

True, customer service is an American thingy. Poles, they are abrupt. It's not good or bad, it's in their DNA. If a Pole has a hard time assimilating into American Culture that's the main reason.

Even Delph's replys accentuate the differences between American English and British English. The Brits are much more literal (I think that's the way to describe it) Americans are more conversational, so the Polish abruptness doesn't bother the British as much. American conversational mannerisms bother a lot of foreigners.

Yes, the English are more discriminating. It reflects their culture. How Americans perceive the world reflects their cultural outlook (a lot of people from everywhere living together and because you don't know how your neighbor is going to react you play nice, stay optimistic and ignore the bad stuff. Kinda like Homer Simpson).
