Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

That's how I feel it: youtube.com/watch?v=PJKC6DQnBzc

REPUBLIKA
"Nie pytaj o Polskę"

To nie karnawał
ale tańczyć chcę
i będę tańczył z nią po dzień

to nie zabawa
ale bawię się
bezsenne noce senne dnie

to nie kochanka
ale sypiam z nią
choć śmieją ze mnie się i drwią

taka zmęczona
i pijana wciąż
dlatego nie

NIE PYTAJ WIĘCEJ MNIE

nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego jestem z nią
nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego z inną nie
nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego myślę że...
że nie ma dla mnie innych miejsc

nie pytaj mnie
co ciągle widzę w niej
nie pytaj mnie dlaczego w innej nie
nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego ciągle chce
zasypiać w niej i budzić się

te brudne dworce
gdzie spotykam ja
te tłumy które cicho klną

ten pijak który mruczy coś przez sen
że PÓKI MY ŻYJEMY ona żyje też

NIE PYTAJ MNIE
NIE PYTAJ MNIE
C0 WIDZĘ W NIEJ

nie pytaj mnie
co ciągle widzę w niej
nie pytaj mnie dlaczego w innej nie
nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego ciągle chcę
zasypiać w niej i budzić się

nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego jestem z nią
nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego z inną nie
nie pytaj mnie
dlaczego myślę że...
że nie ma dla mnie innych miejsc

My own (pretty lousy) translation:

Don't ask about Poland"

It's not a carnival
but I want to dance
and I will dance till the end

It's not a party
but I enjoy myself
sleepless nights and sleepy days

She's not my lover
but I'm sleeping with her
though they are laughing at me

So tired and drunk all the time (she-my comment)

That's why

Don't ask me any more
Don't ask me
Why I'm with her
Don't ask me
Why not with another one

Don't ask me
Why I think that
that there's no other place for me

Don't ask me
What I still see in her
Don't ask me
Why not in another one
Don't ask me
Why I still want
Fall asleep and wake up in her

That dirty terminals
Where I'm meeting with her
That crowd that is cursing quietly

That drunkard that is muttering in his sleep
That till we are living she is also alive

Don't ask me
Don't ask me
What I see in her

Don't ask me
What I still see in her
Don't ask me
Why not in another one
Don't ask me
Why I still want
Fall asleep and wake up in her

Don't ask me
Why I'm with her
Don't ask me
Why not with another one
Don't ask me
Why I think that
that there's no other place for me

News / What Poland can't do right [113]

I don't understand why should I tell what's wrong with Poland.I didn't noticed any thread of that kind about any other country(maybe I've missed something?).Even if some things are not as good as in other countries it doesn't matter because this is the place where I want to live.

News / What Poland can't do right [113]

There are other threads about problems with many other countries

I'm sorry for my mistake:D I didn't noticed that treads earlier. However I still think it's quite useless. This thread is not about some problems or ways to solve it.Maybe I would react differently if this was something like "I'm moving to Poland what problems can I expect".As for now I don't see the point.

Life / Britains got talent vs mam talent [15]

What I like in "mam talent" is the variety of different "talents".BGT is more singing competition(and is better this way)generally I like both shows:)

USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

I agree with many points made by fuzzy and wildrover but in my observation it starting to change.I will probably get a master degree in June and I have many chances to live Poland(job in Dania and UK)but I don't intend to move from my country and I see there are more and more young ppl to think like me.They often go for a while but return. The only problem is that sometimes they don't think about future when they leave and then don't have anything to come back to.As for US I've heard only form one friend that he wants to go there(only for visit and he returned in time)-mostly they want to go somewhere in the EU.

Work / Education in Poland - system and structure [118]

The 8+4 system was very good.Psychologist proved that moving children from one school to another in the age of 13 is a bad idea.I'm the child of that educational project and believe me-it was stupid idea to change our system like that and in such hurry.

Work / Education in Poland - system and structure [118]

I was in 8 years school system(before it was changed) and with sensible organization it works all right. As a 7 years old I never had any problem with older kids.

Language / "There will always be a Poland" in Polish [9]

No, no, no! JAKAŚ doesn't sound good in this context.

You're right-it really means-if not that Poland than maybe another one.SOME Poland will exist.

No it's not diminutive.It's cases:
Mianownik:ucho
Dopełniacz:ucha
Celownik:uchu
Biernik:ucho
Narzędnik:uchem
Miejscownik:uchu
The diminutive form would be f.e:
uszko,uszeczko e.t.c.

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

Ty chuju/chuj = You cock, or more grammatically correct would be, Jesteś chuju/chuj = you are a cock.

It's not quite correct:
Jesteś Chujem

USA, Canada / Differences in How Polish People Raise a Child and How Americans Raise a Child [149]

I wasn't really meaning newborns though. I meant older kids. In my opinion there's no good reason to routinely share a bed with your 3-year-old unless it's the only one available.

You are right. If woman is sleeping with her 3-years-old child her man should really consider if she want to make love with him(it's only my suggestion).I've met a young mother that lost her interest in sex after the pregnancy. On the other hand many overprotective mothers are afraid of loosing connection with their kids and try to keep them close as long as they can.

Language / 'ucha' [23]

In polish you have 7 cases. You have to check witch one to use when you want to say something grammatically correct.
Mianownik:To jest ucho-it's the ear
Dopełniacz:Temu pomnikowi brakuje ucha-this sculpture is missing the ear
Celownik:Czemu się tak przyglądasz?Twojemu uchu.-What are you looking at?At your ear.
Biernik:Co widzisz?Ucho.What can you see?Ear.
Narzędnik:Co cię boli?Mam problem z uchem.-What's wrong with you?I've problem with my ear.
Miejscownik:O czym rozmawiacie?O moim uchu-What are you talking about?About my ear.
If it's not enough let me know I'll try to explain it differently or maybe someone else is a better teacher:D

I almost forgot about one more thing:
Some people(poor educated or making a joke)use the word "ucha" for plural form(ears?)but it's not correct.

From what I know there are few similarities(few words in common) but not as many as to understand Hungarian without learning it.

USA, Canada / Differences in How Polish People Raise a Child and How Americans Raise a Child [149]

This is not wrong.

It can be.Kids are learning really fast and if you are responding to eagerly your child will use it against you.Of course not right away but soon. They know that their mothers can't stand them crying and then learn when and how use it to get what they want.

Language / When do you use 'się'? And what does it mean? [37]

It's really hard to explain.Your friend was quite right-it's used as "self" but some other verbs also requires "się".

I'll try to translate it:
"się" is used in three situations:
(1.1)...when the person feels the consequence(it's not good translation but the best I could give) as in "self"
(1.2)..as a impersonal form(???),when you don't know who had done sth
(1.3)...when there are group doing sth

e.g.:
(1.1)Krzysztof moved when he was asleep
(1.1)Anna washed herself
(1.2)It's getting late
(1.3)It's said that Janek is getting married with Judyta

I don't know if I made it any clearer but I've tried

Love / Is she genuine? - I would like some advice please re a Polish girl. [130]

It's so easy for a scammer to google this.

You are right but cartoons have other problem-she can tell "The Smurfs"and it wouldn't say anything. The only really reliable test is...to check her ID or passport. But I'm quite sure that option is unavailable.

In spoken language it's really rarely used but you can still hear this sometimes. In written language it's still in use as you said to avoid repetition.

Language / Why in the world there are three ways to write simple U ?!?! [54]

Even if there is no difference in pronunciation right now there is reason why we still use f.e. "rz" and "ż"-there're words that means different things just because of orthography:

morze-sea
moze-maybe
So don't tell me this is meaningless.
