Genealogy / ARE THERE ANY RECORDS SHOWING IMMIGRANTS LEAVING USA BEGINNING 20THC [9]

Thank you to everyone for their input. I have been trying to trace descandants of a Gt.Uncle and as all traces of him have disappeared from his arrival in Chicago, I am assuning he may have gone back to Poland. When he left the country was under Austrian rule and subsequently taken over by Russia before reverting back to Poland in 1920, so it is reasonable to assume he would have wished to return home. My grandfather spent some time in USA and also returned home when things improved.

descandants of a Gt.Uncle

I've found my relatives. Thanks for the input

Genealogy / LISIA GORA - village in Poland [16]

Would anyone know if this Church still exists?

Yes it does!! The church is Sw. Wojciecha.

tarnowskie.koscioly.sl.pl/koscioly/l/lisia_gora.htm

Thread attached on merging:
LISIA GORA- nr TARNOW- MANOR HOUSE IN 19TH CENTURY

I've been trying to establish who owned the manor house in Lisia Gora which was destroyed some time in the late 19th or may be early part of 20th century. All documents come up with the same information that there once "stood a manor house" (stał dwór)

Does anyone know the name of the owner of this place in late 19th century or even its name? I've been looking now for over half a year without much luck.

Thanks in advance for any information

Genealogy / Searching Bobreski Bobrecki Bobretzky [3]

Komianec

The spelling of this may be KAMIENIEC IN Bielorus. This part was under Polish rule between 1919 & 1939 and so there may be some records available in the National Archives. It's a region with quite a chequered history got taken by the Russians after the third partition of Poland in late 18th century.

Alexander Bobrecki

Have found a Polish mission in Kamieniec Bialorus:

The priest is :
Ks. Jan Wasilewski
The address:-
ul. Podrecznaja 15
22050 Kamieniec
Bielorus.

You never know he might help.

Genealogy / Searching for Koczela from Temeszow [18]

only spelling

The spelling may be right as have found two on the internet in Poland. The reason I asked because I thought the name had a 'w' missing: Milczanowska

It's very unlikely the church holds records and you would have to obtain details from National Archives. I have however contacted someone to check out the cemetary there for you. Fingers crossed!

Genealogy / Wierzcholek family surname [14]

Jaszczurowa Poland

As you are aware there are two places by that name in close vicinity to each other. Having seen some other of your threads his wife was Orszulak and as there are some Orszulak's in Jaszczurowa in the District (Gmina) Mucharz in Wadowice County it might be a good place to start.

The parish church is Sw. Wojciecha:-

Mucharz 111, 34‑106 Mucharz, tel. +44 (33) 876 14 67

Szwaczyk and Kocylo

There is a Jakub Szwaczyk aged 27 who is documented on ellisisland.org as entering USA in April 1903 and had resided at Sanok. The second part of the document if available should show where he was born.

Also found on Polish website information of surnames that have disappeared from Temeszow temeszow.pl and one of them is KOCZYLA.So assume this is the correct spelling.

USA, Canada / US resident, have a baby with a Polish girl. Need help on Polish Passport. [30]

live together and take care of our son

Be careful for Polish law does not acknowledge the Hague Convention regarding a parent absconding with a child - in a nutshell it is not illegal for a parent to kidnap his/her own child. Should this however happen it is important action your side is taken within a year. Under the Convention it is possible to bring back the child within a year provided you know it's whereabouts.

However, it may be possible for you to make the child a ward of court which will prevent this happening. Talk to lawyers as soon as possible.

Genealogy / Stanislaw Szczyglinski - Holocaust Victim.. [9]

If he wasn't a Jew, he can't be described as "Holocaust victim".

The word Holocaust is of Greek origin meaning genocide. The definition being 'great or total destruction of life'
As other ethnic minorities & groups were also exterminated scholars would have it that they would be victims of the Holocaust.

Genealogy / Finding Lech family from Wisloczek/Canada [16]

Wisloczek,

Is a tiny place. In 2006 the population was 160 of which 55 were under 18.
It's about 3km walk from Rudkawka Rymanowska reached via Rzeszów or Tarnów. Some records are kept in Rudkawka Rymanowska, but most would be kept in Krosno.

Contact: e-mail: lgd@sobiesami.pl
I've tried searching for a local church where records were kept in the past for those born in Wisłoczek, and have contacted locals to establish for you where records could have been kept or transferred.
