Law / Can i enter Poland before my D visa starts? [5]

im guessing you need to get your Visa first then book your ticket. What if you don't have Visa approved then your stuck with a ticket and not be able to go. My suggestion is to contact the Visa ofc and ask them or the consulate that has the answers. Sound logical?

Travel / Starbucks in Poland? [149]

Warsaw has a Starbucks. I stop for a Latte every now and then but as a coffee drinker and drinking it the way I do....it is highly overpriced for me to visit often. (it's only coffee folks) Starbucks is more of an expresso coffee so stronger than the average cup you would be making at home

Genealogy / Looking for Pawel Rutkowski [9]

I saw your post on another Polish forum and Googled the name and found a few and an address. If you have done so and written then chances are they are not ready to write back. Must be prepared for this. But don't give up. After years of searching just recently found my uncle's family....He spells his name with an i (male) and so did his kids the females should have used the a but did not associate name as being correct except I had a foto and they could not deny it was my uncle their father. They saw a post I left on internet but never wrote back......but did leave a response there so I decided to check Facebook and then a connection was finally acknowledged. the response to post was 2010 and I only ran across my own post 2012 so make sure wherever you write to keep a log so you know where you have been.

Food / Pierogi recipe and filling from my grandmother [179]

When you say began with an "S" I am thinking it is the Polish word for breakfast which would be sniadanie. Farmers cheese is more of the equivalent of cottage cheese but it is much drier. Cottage cheese is very wet and creamy with either small or large curds. Does that help?

Food / POLISH RECIPES! [287]

Do you know that most of the recipes you talk about or ask for so far are in the cookbook called Polish Heritage by Robert Strobel and excellent book.

Genealogy / Vintage Photos of Polish ancestors [144]

Yes the last name is Chodacki (Chodacka) His first name was Walter. On the back of one foto it says Morecombe. It could have been a vacation photo or they lived in that town. Unfortunately the family has no information and my mom does not remember anymore. (she is now 88yrs old) It's like looking for a needle in a haystack with only a couple fotos to go by.

Language / Ukrainian language similar to Polish? [236]

I am a Polish American that can speak and understand Polish. I have friends who are Ukranian. I can understand some words to get the gest of what is being said but if it is written it looks like Russian so I would never be able to read it or even sound it out as I can Polish. If spoken similar to Polish more than Russian yet some Russian words are close to Polish also if you listen closely. Same as Spanish and Italian are similar in some cases yet not. (I also detect a feeling Ukranians feel they are better than a Pole does this show in EU)

We should collect recipes and have a cook book printed. All proceeds to go to a needy Polish family.

USA, Canada / Polish Citizen, US legal resident, but no Polish Passport... [67]

I went to dot gov and printed out forms to renew my passport last august. Cost of photos was $13.00 for three (2 must be sent with form) and mailed out a check for 75.00 and in a few weeks recieved it back with old passport. All this info at dot gov and can be done through the mail. I was told it would take forever because they are back logged. Not true so don't believe all this mis information. The only way to find out for sure is to go directly to the source as each case is different.

Food / Eating Kielbasa - how do you cook yours? [119]

If I say me...?

I would not believe it for a second Seanus. Does that look like a monkey to you.....LOL

Pawian what are you telling us here....double trouble..... LOL

Back to topic...I've usually had kielbasa smoked and then boiled. That sizzle looks good and probably very tasty but then I would want to eat it served like hots with mustard and kapusta.

USA, Canada / Sending packages from US to PL, cheapest alternative? [36]

I have sent packages to Poland and get feed back many times they arrived within a week....I usually give my pkgs about 10 days. Send it via USPS. I never expect the best so always glad to hear good feedback. UPS cost a fortune.
