Law / How do I verify a Polish company's existence? [240]

To check your bussines partner you have to know name of owner (probably one) and check him in Municipality of £ódz or maybe it's partnership or company.

I am surprised that you cannot check on the internet for info about Businesses and their total sales per year because it is very easy for German, British and French companies which have to publish every fiscal year their numbers.

Otherwise It is very risky .
How do you know if a Polish client or Business Partner is official and has money?
If you have to go to each city Town hall it sounds complicated.

News / Do Poles in Poland really feel betrayed because there won't be any US Shield? [288]

The medias are saying that Kazsinski and a Polish tabloid Falk said that he feels betrayed and threatened by Russia since the US are dropping the project of the missiles shield.

' The Us are too broke and busy with Iran to consider Russia as a serious threat to the free world, in my opinion.

is it true ? Do Poles really think that they could be a risk of beeing invaded again or attacked by Russia their big neighbourg?

News / Do Poles in Poland really feel betrayed because there won't be any US Shield? [288]

Yes there is. Other nationalities return when their visa expire.

What a silly comment. If people do not return when their visa expire it means either they cannot afford to return or they found better opportunities in the country they visited.

The USA are a goldmine of opportunities in some fields and I don't see why people with a family to care for in Poland should not try to improve their living standards if they can which does not mean I support parasites but people who contribute to any country aswell as contributing to themselves cannot be blamed for trying to overstay (until they get caught of course when it is illegal).

4th or 5th generations of Americans should always remember why and how their ancestors left their native country.
Wasn't it to find a better life?

Real Estate / Documents requested from foreigners to rent a flat long term in Poland? Invoicing / Contract. [16]

hello, I have a question for all our real estate specialists on our forum. Your answers could be quite useful !

If I am not Polish and I want to rent a flat in Poland on a long term basis, what are the documents requested by private owners or agencies apart from passport number and signing a lease contract ?

Proof of income ? Company warranty? Bank statements of the last 6 months?

Is there a difference between what is provided by a foreigner in terms of official documents or by local resident ?

Also is it common or legal to ask a tenant to pay the rent for one year upfront?

Many thanks

News / Polish final report on Smoleńsk aircrash [859]

Polish mistakes were crushing, though, and directly contributed to the accident.

Is it true that the Polish goverment is denying pension to the flight pilots'widows ?
If so, it is appalling, looks like misplaced revenge and will not help the dead coming back anyway.

Law / Poland on its way to Greece? [64]

Some articles were published yesterday with alarming news that Poland might be on its way to Greece due to the enormous Public but also private debts ( Morgages and Credit) the Poles have had in recent years.

Do you think it an exageration or a plausible scenario?

Real Estate / Building a house in Poland need advice from anyone that has built [100]

who could help me out with pricing?

Never ask a Polish company their fees, they ll rip you off. Just calculate your budget and ask them ( in the manner of take it or leave it) to stick to your budget.

If you don( find anyone , get a quote from a Chinese builder ( they are doing the highways aren(t they) or a British one.

Law / Poland on its way to Greece? [64]

Poland won't go the way of Greece as long as they keep the zloty.

The problem is that Poland committed to switch to Euro. They should not have done so and kept their own currency like the UK has kept its £ Sterling Pound.

I think Poland needed so much money from the Euro zone, all these funds they received , they had to modernise their post communist society ,everything was falling apart.

Life / For all the black people living in Warsaw, where do you get your hair cut? [39]

[quote=Louis001] a question to all the black people on this site living in Poland. Where do you get your haircut ([/quote

That's a very good idea for a new Business in Poland. There are no hairdressers specialising in African haircuts yet ( some of them-amazingly beautiul- requiring - or 7 hours of work, usually for women) but just opening one salon let's say in Warszawa would be very successful and useful for the few black people in Poland. The only problem would be to find the hairdressers who have skills and training for the different haircuts Black people can have.

Work / Planning a move to Wroclaw (a company offers me a Gross salary of 4000 Polish Zloty) [23]

My company is offering me an opportunity to relocate and work in Wroclaw. They are offering me a Gross salary of 4000 Polish Zloty.

You would need close to the double in terms of Gross salary/before tax to support a family of 3 ( if your wife is not working).

Not enough. 2000 PLN would be for housing only. Food would be around 800 zl if you don't go hollywood on meat but your child nappies/diapers will be costly.

Where is your company from ? Can't they do some research about cost of living before offering you to relocate?

Work / Planning a move to Wroclaw (a company offers me a Gross salary of 4000 Polish Zloty) [23]

In general various social benefits. I have no idea to which you will be entitled to as a foreigner who pay taxes here,

None. Especially for a foreigner upon his arrival. Council houses/Housing projects are reserved for poor people who have spent years in Poland not to mention he would have to apply in Polish, bring tons of personal documents and tax forms and spend hours and hours trying to get the right form.

I don't know who posted 600 zl per month for a flat in Wroclaw, maybe for a student 's bedroom but not suitable for a couple with a baby.

So you should either renegociate the offer with your employer( ask details about Medical Coverage too since a newborn needs a few medical consultations) or just reject it because it is too low.

Life / Who are the Polish singers (Classical or Folk songs) [11]

I d love to listen to Polish singers whose styles are similar to :

Bob Dylan,Leonard Cohen, in English
Jacques Brel Georges Brassens,Barbara in French
Vladimir Vissotsky, Boulat Okoudjava in Russian

You know what i mean, classical or folk singers whose songs have nice lyrics, poetic Polish words, Polish singers who are viewed as singing poets.

Old or recent does not matter.

Thank you for your recommendations

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

The Poles are not rude, on the contrary some men will kiss women ' s hand, offer to carry your heavy bags, people give their seats to pregnant women or to old people in trams etc, they are in general very gracious.

However Customer service is one of the worst in Europe, appalling, one can hardly exchange any item at a shop even with the invoice, one cannot get a refund for anything(One day at a hardware store in Galeria Kazimierz I bought among loads of other things an accessory which i discover I did not need and they made it extremely difficult to take it back even though it was still in the package and with the invoice! Same thing with a Polish friend who discovered that the dress she had bought did not fit, she went back with her invoice and the dress the following day and the shop keeper would not take it back!)

I have tons of examples like that the last one being at Aster in Krakow queuing for ages in the most messy organization in the world until some Polish clients started screaming at the incompetent staff who replied they were just employees and not responsible for the lack or organization at their headquarters!

So No the Poles are not rude andYestheir Customer Service is pathetic but they suffer from it too and are starting to rebel!

Kiss a woman's hand? I've never seen that and if I tried it myself, I'd get a slap ;)

You 're hysterical Seanus ! Even in remote villages or working class areas eg Stalowa Wola men will help women carrying heavy bags and kiss their hand !

You are probaly not surrended by well mannered Polish gentlemen.... LoL

Real Estate / Cost to build in Eastern Poland - Ideally per m2 [71]

We got an architect to come and have a look and he said that it would cost as much to get it up to spec as building a new place.

Yes but it is less tiring and complicated to renovate an old house if it is in acceptable condition than to build a brand new house.

Also if the old house has a nice and typical Polish architecture you know like built in stone or a nice wooden house like those in Zakopane, it would be more interesting than a brand new one with an unremarkable architecture.

I remember beeing a bit shocked when traveling to Ireland and seeing all those "Villas" looking like Spanish Villas, instead of pretty Irish cottages.I thought it was ridiculous.

I mean it is true that for functional reasons it sounds more comfortable to live in a brand new house but I d rather keep in style with Polish architecture then if I were ever going to build a house in Poland or just look for an old one to renovate.

Real Estate / Cost to build in Eastern Poland - Ideally per m2 [71]

Honestly Teflcat now after so many years of endeavours in builing your own house in Poland and eventually achievement and with your experience, i think you could offer your services as a consultant for Englisih speaking foreigners who want to build a proper house in Poland.

don't forget the polystyrene. My place is wrapped in 15cm all round. It's like a thermos flask.

You should consider it because i am sure you would get a lot of clients.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

None of my Polish friends are racist antisemitic homophobic because they are well educated, love meeting other cultures and beyond all they are good human beeings.

As for the stereotype of Poles beeing anti semitic just read the magnificent novel from Daniel Mendelsohn called"the Lost"(Zagubieni. W poszukiwaniu sześciorga spośród) and remember that the majority of the Righteous among the Nations in Yad Vashem Memorial in Jerusalem were Poles.

I think that racism takes place when ignorance is fuelled by hard economic times and that we blame the others for everything bad happening to us, we look for the usual suspects the usual scapegoats. let's hope that History will not repeat itself.
