Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [450]

All the Polish people I know have small noses. I don't know that many though.

Of all the faults a person can have, a big nose is way-way-way down the list to have. If fact it can be an asset.

Food / Pierogi recipe and filling from my grandmother [179]

I still think fried mushrooms and onion filling is the best. Have to be almost crispy so the flavour is concentrated.

Does else anyone eat their Pierogi as a side dish to Borche?

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

Well said Lee. Having a girlfriend is an very expensive hobby, its an exceptional one who will actually insist on paying her own way. Ok, I earn a lot of money so i don't expect a woman earning half as much to pay, but I don't know of any English man who would not do the same.

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

Do Poles swear a lot? I listening to two guys talking on the bus the other day and it was a torrent of swear words (I don't know what they all meant, but it was every second word)

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

I agree that polish men are so much better than english men, loads of reasons in fact too many to list lol

And English Women are even worse. According to a lot of comments made in this forum :)

I honestly don't think men or women are much different in either country. If you have the delusion that Polish men and women are angels then you are a fool.

Law / Hiring a Polish Worker - Pros and Cons [107]

I love the way people come to London and the South East and assume that that is Britain. First off, is it 40 or 60% of Londoners are immigrants.

Second, the rest of the country is far more friendly, go to Yorkshire and its completly different. Mind you the people you will be speaking to will be English, not French, Spanish, Polish or winging Yank. There are more languages spoke in London than are different language newspapers printed daily world wide. Live in a posh area like Chelsea and you neighbours are more likely to be Russian than anything else.

So, Polish guys - if I'm understanding what you are saying - are well endowed but don't know how to used it?

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

not sure we should be generalising about whole nations of guys... after all there are good and bad specimens of mankind (and womankind) in both countries. However, in my own limited experience of these matters my Polish bf has much better manners than many English guys I have been out with, ..

You certainly cannot generalise. Two ex-girlfriends of myself a Polish friend of mine both agreed I was good and he was ho-hum - nice to cuddle. He's better looking then me so its swings and roundabouts, I suppose. But his existing long term girlfriend was very happy with him.

So it not only the man, but the woman that determines how good a man is. You cannot generalise about an entire nation, its ridiculous.

fair enough... I would rather have a good looking guy with a small dick, than an ugly one with a big dick and ego to match.. but maybe thats just me

Oh he has the ego. This was my best friend..
He has a girlfriend at home, one at work and the gall the screw my girlfriend and tell me it was none of my business. I meanwhile had to keep my mouth shut while the three suckers told me how wonderful he was. I sure you would love him.

Thats why have to laugh when some people go on about how trusting, loyal, honest Polish guys are.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

I still speak to him, go on holiday and am on friendly terms. He split with the girl he was living with, his mistress at work refered to her as 'his situation'. I think he told the mistress that she was dying with cancer and couldn't leave her for the few years this was going on.

He's a smooth talker, women think he a honest nice guy and will swallow anything. I admit was shocked at his callous disreguard for everyone but himself and I've know him for 15years.

The Mistress now live with him and he doesn't let anybody met her in case his fabricated exitance is exposed. I met her once and mention how much he loved his girlfriend - she freaked, apparently the story that there was love involved hadn't been communicated.

You say I've an ego, well, its more that I'm bullet proof, I need to be. He can say 'I shagged your girlfriend' and I can reply 'yeah, and she came back to me because you were crap'.

We don't talk about it, though...

Of course it can be a competition, women make judgements on whats good for them, so they take part in as well.

Personally I can't be bothered with competing anymore. I prefer help my friends, its more effective.

of course. You can''t make statements about anything that apply to all people, men or women of any nationality. Some girls do, some girls don't, as the song goes.

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Yes indeed. I have to admit, after comparing the two, the US version is not pleasant to have--reminds me of cologne by comparison. It's hard to take now.

I agree with that the US version was unpleasant, I'd drink something else.

History / Poland's January Uprisings of 1863 [86]

the irish rebels were outnumbered by the British. They won. Im not rubbing it in your face. Just saying being outnumbered is not the excuse.

Difference being that the Germans or Russian are quite happy to level a city and exterminate its population.

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

another example of your brain possibilities, you have just again agreed with me that your level is just too low for polish users of this board, shame that just like brits are trying to destroy krakow, another brits of the same low level ar tring to destroy this forum. Best way is to ignore him until admin kicks him out.

Hello Mr Pot, have you met Mr Kettle?

News / Should Poland made an energy bridge deal with Russia? [122]

If Poland would develop its huge gas reserves, it would be in a much stronger negotiating position vis-a-vis Gazprom and 'the bear'.

Poland will be developing its gas reserves soon. One field alone is equivalent to 1000 years gas imports.

Travel / Fishing in Poland - where to go, what to catch? [79]

Wildlife in Poland has not been hunted to extinction, far from in. On my farm herds of deer, flocks of pheasants and Hare are very common, more than daily sights. Hunters feeds the wild boar and deer in winter. Pheasants are reared in massive numbers then released (only 20% of the farm reared Pheasants are shot the rest fall to natural predators). Hunters have to pay a fee for every animal they kill - Hare cost 75zl for instance.

Dogs can be shot if they are more than 150m away from a house without a collar; not nice but they are dangerous themselves.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

Pilots very seldom make such errors and I doubt that the wing behaved in the way that they said it did.

Pilots very seldom make such errors and I doubt that the wing behaved in the way that they said it did.

Pilots make many many mistakes and landing in fog is one of them. TU154 is dangerous aircraft as well, although thats relative.

Why did they have a presidential plane? even thats an expense too far for the UK

From PPrune

Google translator, slightly polished up, from the Russsian forum:

Rarely speak at the forum, but then grieved. So many put forward the most featured version, a shot from the satellite for me personally, put things in order.
I do not know if there is Instrument landing system, or just a drive...

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

Even more interesting, the flight engineer and the navigator were definately lacking in the experience dept. The navigator had 59h in type, and the flt engineer had 300h TT.

Via Pprune

Interesting USA Today article on the aircraft's avionics. It states that it was equipped with a TAWS, which should have warned the pilot about ground proximity, and helped him avoid the trap of rising ground on the approach..

Device spurs questions in Polish crash - usatoday.com/travel/flights/2010-04-13-fog-plane-crash-poland_N.htm

A few quotes of interest:

Quote:
If the safety device was working properly, it would be the first such crash of an aircraft equipped with the system since its introduction in the late 1990s.

Quote:
"I really would like to know what was going on in that flight deck because no matter what kind of pressure other pilots have been under or what kind of weather they encountered, no pilot has ignored a TAWS warning. What is so different about this plane that it would break that chain?" Cox said.

Bill Voss, president of the non-profit Flight Safety Foundation, said that the crash may highlight a weakness in the TAWS. Maps of the U.S. and other developed nations are highly accurate, but gaps exist in the maps for countries such as Russia and in the developing world, Voss said.

Real Estate / House prices in Poland to drop more or rise again? [228]

that his property is worth so and so (of course more) he will believe you, if you tell him it has crashed you will be his worse enemy.

Its a human mentality, everywhere is the same.

Law / How much does the average Pole have in cash savings? [38]

nothin' for nothin', but savings has little to do with your credit score.

Didn't you know, credit is wealth? The majority of people put their credit card balancing as an asset. People state their wealth without the debt they have on their assets. When you hear about billionaires the vast majority are listing their debts not assets.

BTW the average savings in Poland was 17k zloty, according to a news article I read a few weeks ago.

UK, Ireland / Polish and East European prostitutes in the UK [240]

Seriously, i rather stay alone for the rest of my life than having a sexual relation with a (former) prostitute.

Have no fear, you will never know anything about your partner, she/he would not be stupid enough to tell you. Be happy in your ignorance!

Actually yes alot are trafficked. Do you think most women would admit they have been trafficked? They are terrified of their traffickers, and yes there is many polish protitutes due to this. Along with the immigration from Poland, Albania etc. came the organized crime element.

Simply not true. The number of prostitutes who were found to be trafficked over several years in the UK was tiny. They closed down the UK police unit that dealt with it becuase there was so little work for them. The fact is in London there is too many prostitutes, most, if not all of them are from the former communist countries. In one brothel last year the women reported their pimp to the police? why? becuase they didn't have any customers.

This 'forced into sex' doesn't work when there is a massive oversupply of women keen to get laid for money. I have spoken to many normal women who are attracted to the apparent 'glamour' of prostitution (why?).

If you want to see the nationalities and number of ******, use the internet. Its easy.

Real Estate / Poland: the building boom goes on [28]

What would happen if the majority Poles abroad had to return home due to the world recession.

Why would they return when most of them can claim British unemployment benefit?
Few do, however because Poles are not in jobs that will be hit by the recession. Even those jobs that are lower paid, after a year they can claim tax credits. £5000 a year for my friends father who is sending it back to Poland to support his six children.

Tusk and Co would have to admit that nothing has been achieved and that its all illusion perpetuated by spin.

When you pump money into an economy, it doesn't tend to disappear. People spend it on houses, consumer goods and higher wages.

As the report by the Austrian Bank says, house prices are going to go up..
