Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

I disagree, in Poland they expect a tip nearly everywhere now. Taxi drivers expect one too.

Poles are thrifty on tiping I must agree

Travel / Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines? [380]

I've flown on LOT at least dozen or more round trips, and hated each and every one. Every time I get off the plane, I tell myself, "dont ever book another flight on LOT". Then the next trip I find the cheapest flight to be LOT, and its direct, so I take it. And the circle of drama continues.

They've lost my luggage, they've ripped it open, they've shredded it too (each a separate trip), so I've learned to only buy cheap luggage when going to Poland, lol. When they ripped my luggage, and I went to file a complaint, the lady first started accusing me of how it was my fault. She said I probably over packed and the luggage weighed too much and it burst or it was too old, so she decided to weigh it, and when it was 15 lbs under weight and saw it was loose, not tight packed & fairly new, she shut up and started filling out the paper work to reimburse me.

On my last flight a couple months ago, they "offered" to move my seat to the emergency row exit, and boasted about the extra leg room there. I felt priviledged! Little did I know that I got a broken chair that never sat in the up-right position... for which the stewardesses kept walking over and reminding me to lift my chair at eatting times and take off & landing. Ladies, if I only could make the chair work, I would! Sitting in that row, with the emergency door, I felt a draft, it was so freaking cold, that i sat in a coat & had a couple blankets. Then water started dripping from I dont know where, the blankets got wet, and I sat there freezing and being dripped on wet the rest of the flight.

To those that said that LOT doesn't have old planes, perhaps they should get their facts straight. They only buy planes from American or United when they are done with them, and servicing becomes too time consuming. Hence why the seats smell and are broken, why stuff leaks, why its nasty.

I guess this could fly during the communism era when everyone was happy to be on that flight to get the heck out of Poland, but in these days, our standards are higher. I dont want to eat a 3 day old kanapka as my meal. I want the stewardesses to serve people on the flight, not a drink at the beggining and then sit at the back of the plane for 9 hours gossiping about which of their friends is a slut and why.

And maybe, just maybe if there was still toilet paper in the lavatories midway through the flight, I think everyone would be happy.

But I guess more and more people aren't flying with the lovely Polish airline, I heard they only fly to Krakow 1 day a week now, and 2 days to Warsaw... from ORD that is.

The plane may have been cold overall or your vent on but to act like the plane was so old and creaky that wind was blowing in past the door cracks is stupid.

I've sat in the emergency row exit before, not my first time. I know cold from blowing above, and frozen ice on the door, give me a break. I'm sure it wasn't a lot of air blowing because that would have been an issue, but no vents are by the door to cause ice to form on the door itself like there was.

Just because you like LOT, doesn't mean everyone else has too. Maybe you like the attitude the stewardesses give you, you like your fight.

I just chalked it up to being a Polka thing.

We are a feisty bunch aren't we, lol.

You clearly don't know much about how airplanes work to make the suggestions you have.

I didn't say I'm some expert or engineer in this field, I stated my observation & conclusion. And you clearly don't know that there was ice forming on the door. So your observations about a cold vent are wrong.

No way, I don't complain about all airlines like I do about LOT. This one just irks me. I guess I'm not the typical Polka either, it's mid Nov in Chicago and I have a short sleeved tee on :)

Who cares it the play button for music on the chair dosen't work. It's like saying I need a mp3 player when I drive a ferrari, porsche or lamborghini. That's the way I look at it everytime I flew as a passenger.

Are you serious? You can't be comparing the 30 year old LOT planes to Ferarris! I compare them more to the PKS. Dirty seats, service with a little attitude and broken seats. Except the PKS is a short ride and sitting in the broken seat shouldnt be sooo bad. But if I pay over $1000 for a ticket, I expect at least the chair to function, and if its supposed to play music to entertain me, than make sure it works.

Look at statistics how many accidents they had conducting flights with comparison to many other U.S. major carriers[/quote]
Lets compare apples to apples. How many flights a day does AA or United have, and how many does LOT.

I can see your passion for flying :) But as much as I love to travel, I dont love to sit on LOT for 9-10 hours :).[

they just got rid of their two oldest planes B767-200ER that wore bought in 1989

LOT buys used planes, so tag some years onto that number.

Lifespan of a plane is measured by the # times of pressurization cycles. So since long flights experience less of these, the planes usually fly 20+ yrs.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

And when Brits buy a Mercedes or BMW from Germany, that isn't a status symbol?

No, usually the cars from Germany are run down cars from auctions.

I think Krakowianka hates the fact she is Polish and is angry at her life.

Not the least bit! I love life and am a proud pole.

Just because I dont love and adore LOT like you do, and because I'm smarter to point out topics where you were incorrect, does not mean I'm angry at life. I dont love posters who post wrong info, like you with your LOT has new planes. If you love it so much, perhaps you work there and should take all the criticism and improve.

dj_zabkaPL I did work in the industry during college. I knew my airline sold their worn out, used up, in poor shape aircrafts to LOT.

Life / Orphanages in Poland [82]

Polish orphanages are also rather reluctant to provide info. I remember a couple years ago, my mom's church gathered tons of toys to send to an orphanage in Poland. When calling the orphanage, the lady in charge indicated they can't say how many children they have, or what ages, so the toys would match the recipients. Then when she found out that toys were to be sent, she said she can't accept them either. "Toys get dirty fast, there is no one here to clean or wash them". Maybe this lady had enough of kids, and wont allow them to have fun :(

As for children left behind, I would think most are left with family members, aunts or grandparents to be raised "temporarily" while the parent(s) go work abroad. I've heard that orphanages are mostly kids taken away from abusive parents, or alcoholic/drug users.

These kids need loving homes, the sad part is, that the adoption process in Poland is insanely long, and many families drop out somewhere down the line.

Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

Allot of people do in the Chicago area. Thats the way it is.

I think you are referring to polish-americans that do not speak polish who call their grandmothers "Busia". I believe Busia started from babusia, and it got shorted by those that always complain about Polish being difficult to pronounce.

Poles that speak polish, call grandma "babcia".

Love / POLISH WOMEN ARE PROMISCUOUS? DISCUSS. [153]

However i think its true that some races see Polish women are more easy to get sex from due to them being newcomers in a country

The ones that are easy abroad, are also easy in their home country. I dont think you lower your standards just because you are a foreigner. Unless, its a chic from a small town, that knows whatever she does abroad will not be spread by rumor how it does in villages in PL.

Arabs have a view that every Polish lady is a slut. I think this is because of the large tourist groups that vacation in Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt. The trips are cheap from PL, lots of college aged girls go, and think "whatever happens there, stays there", and create a nice opininon for the rest of the Polish nationality.
