News / Poland says no to flood of Immigrants [670]

trying to please (often poorly-educated and reactionary) voters

Like those in the Netherlands that gave anti-migration candidate a win yesterday?

Every country whose political establishment ignores public attitudes toward the inflow of unqualified, uneducated and non-assimilating migrants ends up creating a 'far right' party that does address that and the longer the establishment ignores it the bigger that party becomes....

Denmark avoided this by part of the establishment taking a tougher line on migration....

In the UK those that dislike it enough will pull up stakes and move on (so that producers of prosperity are reeplaced by more parasitic populations) how is that sustainable?

it isn't happening much.

Because of a neo-religious belief of those in the governments that facilitate it, the belief system needs to be dismantled before anything constructed can be done...

Some advocate for that, usually the bloodthirsty

To be clear I'm not advocating it as much as predicting that either that will happen or Europe will plunge into a new dark age...

the people arriving in ever larger numbers do not have the values that make Europe a nice place to live and will turn it into the same kind of sh/thole that they came from...

people are not blank slates or interchangeable widgets and you can't continue anything like European civilization without European values (and maybe European genetics).

Cultures come and go.

Bye Bach, bye Renoir, bye Michelangelo...

Everyone likes their own, even the shortcomings

That's the problem... people from loud violent and anti-intellectual cultures like being loud and violent and anti-intellectual and welfare and petty crime seem like a pretty sweet deal to them (until the local work horses can't support them anymore).

Your country, mine, half of Europe. The number are increasing and show no sign of decreasing

I'm afraid at some point violence will have to be used... and when that happens all the humanitarians who try to shut down every effort to stop the flow will have blood on their self-righteous hands....

Just as bad money drives out good, bad culture traits drive out good culture....

low trust drives out high trust,

acivic morality drives out civic duty,

cynicism drives out honesty,

violent confrontation drives out non-violent dialogue....

sex-based violence drives out equality between the sexes

no value given to education drives out education as a value

It's a matter of cultural survival and realism. Africa and the Middle East have more dysfunction than Europe can cure.

Despite all the political huffing and puffing, they haven't

Show me a country that's tried and still has increasing migration....

only way it can be mitigated slightly (it won't be stopped) is to increase opportunities in the Global South

The Global South is almost entirely to blame for its situation (Sub-Saharan Africa is kept poor by Sub-Saharan African values and not by colonialism).

Moving to Europe they won't be any more successful since almost none of them have the educational, linguistic or social capital necessary to thrive in Europe.

African success stories in Europe are extremely rare... at least MENA migrants have some isolated successes...

Eventually the system will break down because the welfare system won't be able to support them and Europe will be more like Africa than Europe and Africa will be more African than ever....

She strongly believes she will have better chances as a boy.

If her English is good enough to her to start browing twitter, the keywords are "gay gc" (gay gender critical) or "cis gay"...

I've seen lots of short, portly fat women find boyfriends.... trans 'men' are rejected by almost all gay men (often more harshly than by straight guys).

migration from the Global South will only continue to grow this century.

Only if the Global North allows it (more specifically only if governments allow it against the expressed wishes of a majority of the population).

the problem is that European culture cannot be maintained by.... non-Europeans with very different values who are allowed to keep those values..

bye equality of the sexes under law, bye broad tolerance of sexual minorities, bye secular education for education's sake, bye civil society.... it was nice to know you...

transgender students in my school are girls turn into boys

I have a few now too.... to be honest none of them are very masculine or seem to put any real effort into any kind of masculine appearance.... (contrasted with another I had in the past who had been under treatment for a longer time and had grown a moustache). The 'male' names are all English... and unrelated to their female names.

A lot of this now, especially among girls, is a fadish subculture that they will almost certainly grow out of in a few years.... the one who wants to mix with gay males may have developed a paraphilia from consumption of a sub-genre of manga (japanese manga) featuring feminine young gay guys intended for Japanese teenage girls. In the west k pop seems to be a gateway toward that. Almost no real gay males have any interest in them...

the operations are generally not very successful and rates of regret and/or terrible complications tend to be high... especially for surgery below the waist...

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Free vasectomy for gays!

And... what is that meant to accomplish? It does betray a fascination with gay men's nether regions... but why do you want to make such a private affair public?

Life / The Polish Wedding - What is it Like in Poland? [338]

A long time ago I was invited to a Vietnamese wedding (in Warsaw) not so much alcohol but great food and soooo many flowers. Among the games there was one where each of the newlyweds were blindfolded and felt (innocuous) body parts of several people to see if they could recognize their new spouse (I think he felt the knee and she felt the face but I could be wrong).

Is that also done at Polish weddings?

you think that for them it should be free and others should pay?

He would probably like to make them mandatory for those groups....

Why have you suddenly become so protective?

he's not being 'protective'....

News / Hołownia - a rising star in Polish politics? [94]

Marszałkowie are voted in by the MP's. PiS still be proposing their PM

They're still trying to get their marszałek voted in because they've decided to go all in for Elżbieta "Reasumpcja" Witek and won't nominate anyone else (and Witek won't be accepted by other parties).

yeah... Morawiecki's gonna be able to form a government..... somehow....

And of course Ziobro is degrading into a creature of pure malignant rage... though he still does have a sense of humor...

Real Estate / How is it being a landlord in Poland? Do poles pay their rent etc.? [8]

Why are there so many idiots on this board for?

So many have asked that over the years.

I will say one thing and then keep my peace until further opinions are asked for: Poland is not a country to do long distance business in for those who don't know the language and local culture (and even then it can be tricky).

Absentee landlord is not anything I would recommend somebody invest in with money they can't afford to lose.

So, why was is thrown again?

It's a squid game thing? It's thrown three times and those who catch it survive and everyone else is gunned down by a giant little girl with a machine gun.

bride isn't meant to see who's on the receiving end of the bouquet?

I'd say it's more about preventing her from just throwing it to a friend. Throwing it backward and blindfolded almost anyone can/could catch it.

Real Estate / Would you rent from me? [24]

smaller houses at 90m2

I don't think renting houses is really a thing in Poland.
If people rent they go for apartments while houses are more to buy. Not going to say there's no house rental but it's not the norm (maybe others here have more concrete data).

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [669]

some especial Polish sadism

As a Ukrainian told me, it's what they want. Even russian speaking Ukrainians want to make it as clear as possible that they're not russian... russians tend to be very, very very slow learners but maybe one of these centuries they'll make the connection....

News / 11th November Independence Day in Poland [73]

he custom originated in 19th century, long before the independence that Poland regained in 1918.

According to an article in ethnology that I read years ago, making the rogal a symbol of Independence Day was a conscious strategy to de-emphasize Piłdudski*, who was not popular in the region due to his lukewarm attitude toward the Wielkopolska Uprising without which Poznań would have remained Posen.

*nov 11 is the day he formed a government for the newly independent country

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [669]

Wait until Russian becomes the second most popular language in Poland

Most of the Ukrainians still in Poland speak russian (because russians have destroyed/stolen their homes and they don't have anything to go back to).

But information for them is almost exclusively in Ukrainian...

And if a Ukrainian knows Ukrainian then Polish is extremely easy,

Kids in school also learn Polish (at times they can be hard to tell from Polish born children).

so..... not sure what your talking about....

Life / Halloween vs All Saints' Day in Poland [48]

Halloween used to be a very rowdy and dangerous event (look up 'gate night' or modern 'devil's night') after one especially bad year, "Black Halloween" in the mid 1930s, people looked for calmer, safer alternatives.

The phrase 'trick or treat' first appears in the late 1930s and it was one of the safer alternatives, giving children treats if they behave (also things like costume parties with adult supervision began in the 1930s).

When I was a child, trick or treat was a lot of fun, you waited until after dark and plunged into the night by yourself (or other kids you met along the way). The best treats were homemade things like candy apples or popcorn balls or rice krispie squares.

Various events (and urban legends) and corporate actions removed the homemade items and the time for trick or treat became earlier and earlier as helicopter parents appeared and now it's almost entirely in the day time (often on a specified day, not Halloween and adults tag along the entire time) and it seems dreary and lame.....

ghetto chile does? Since their neighborhood sucks

Where I grew up the town was segregated and so was trick or treating. But black kids always had the best hauls (you brought candy to school to trade) because they had a community behind them while we just went to random houses of people who didn't know us. Any time there was a fund raising competition the black kids always won for the same reason -- they had strong social networks.

All that's lost now....
