News / Famous Poles die - your memories [112]

Do you know that Romuald Lipko died at the age of 69? He was a rock musician, leader of cult group Budka Suflera which has been active since late 1970s. He composed music for his band as well as other singers, especially female ones. Two or three generations of Poles loved these songs. They have had good message both in communist times and today.

Check out this music:

A beautiful ballad by Urszula from 1983 - she worked with Budka Suflera for a few years.

Puff Balls, Kites and Wind

Another one with great music and vocal by Urszula from 1984

Izabela Trojanowska`s great hit from 1981 was also composed by Lipko

Life / Why oh Why do Poles drive so incredibly poorly [100]

You give up in the heat of the fascinating discussion? After all my logical explanations and attempts to make you aware of basic truths of life in Poland you turn your back and say it was all futile??? Milo, come on, give me a break. I have invested too much time and energy in you for you to give up.

I'm not sure about seatbelts,

Yes, seatbelts are OK, most people use them.

majority of car accidents in Poland are caused by excessive speed.

Yes, hectic style of life. Everybody is speeding first to earn more cash, and then quickly come back to family with money.

And I still claim it has little to do with being a good or bad driver. These are completely different things. Milo, can you hear me?

USA, Canada / The proper behavior an American should show when visiting Poland [159]

Untrue, Pawian!

I am not sure what you mean but judging by the overall overtone of your reply, I dare to say we have run into a misunderstanding. :):)

I meant that travelling in the USA isn`t impressive for your fellow Americans coz it is normal, contrary to travelling to Europe.

UK, Ireland / Polish People are Welcome in Scotland [54]

And why should Poles have a right to vote?

I was curious when they can legally take part. After getting full citizenship? Or before?

There will not be another independence referedum in Scotland, so it doesn't matter.

Of course, not next year. How about ten years` time?

Life / Typical Polish house and family [46]

Poles had to drink a lot to warm themselves up in cold climate. Simple. Coming home after a long ride through snowy forests and fields, they had to take a few quick shots to feel warm. The same with Russians.

Only pawian disagreed.

I see you still can`t forget it. :):)

Life / Why oh Why do Poles drive so incredibly poorly [100]

the pace of life in general in Polish cities is more frantic and people are pushier and more aggressive, I think that shows in driving.

That is a very good remark. In rich Ireland or UK people don`t need to rush to make a pound/euro while in Poland, still trying to catch up with the West, they do. I was trying to imply it to Milo when I asked him: why the highest rate of accident fatalities appears in the newest and poorest EU members in Eastern and Southern Europe ? but he wouldn`t listen. :)

UK, Ireland / Polish People are Welcome in Scotland [54]

Poles are the biggest migrant group in Scotland, figures show...

Will immigrant Poles be able to take part in the next independence referendum in Scotland? What do they need to do?

Coz they already wake up with horrible pains in every part of their bodies. Would you be as happy as a clam at high tide in their situation?

Life / Opłatek, not presents, epitomises the true Polish Christmas spirit [85]

Better to buy unexpected presents because you want to and not because you have to.

But one needs to discuss it with your nearest and dearest first. WIthout it, they will expect a present on the special day and when they don`t get it, might feel terribly disappointed.

Life / Polish films... where to find them? [51]

Yes, the one nominated for Oscars and with European awards two years ago. No, I didn`t watch it coz I don`t like psychological dramas anymore. Watching them brings some memories from my life which I would like to forget.

Life / A good Geriatric Doctor in Krakow [5]

Hmm, in that case, they are not specialists but some novice doctors. :)

Seriously, it is quite impossible. Each doctor has to know what the patient takes - if there is some bad interaction between medications which hurts the patient, the doctor will be held responsible. I know coz we cared for our grandpa who had various disorders, indeed. I took him to several doctors and all of them made sure what medicines had already been prescribed.

News / Dodgy PRL-holdover judiciary finally reformed [420]

That`s a symbolic presentation of how PiS reforms the system: PiS nominated Chairman of Olsztyn Court is tearing the postulates written by his 31 subordinate judges. Good. It means the judges are not scared. They perfectly know such people as their chairman will be put on trial for their criminal acts one day.

UK, Ireland / Starting a car business in Poland - exporting from the UK [5]

I am also a pessimist about such a business. The only Poles who drive such cars are those migrants who visit the old country in their British car or have just returned and haven`t converted the wheel yet for various reasons.

I think there are also problems with registering UK cars with the steering wheel on the other side

No more - those restrictions were lifted recently But driving such a car in Poland is very dangerous and people know about it.

Life / Why oh Why do Poles drive so incredibly poorly [100]

Ha, ha - I have a racing licence, old man.

Wow, good. :) So, I understand why you consider driving in Poland a struggle - it is too slow for you!

You probably live somewhere in the countryside then.

I live both in a big city and countryside. :)

Yes, I meet lunatics on the road but they are just tiny minority and I really don`t understand why you all say that driving in Poland is such a horrible experience.

The problem is that drivers in Poland are, by and large, second or even first generation drivers

You could say it about 20 years ago. The collapse of communism allowed Poles to buy second hand cars cheaply. Let me remind you it happened in 1989, 31 years ago. You must be extremely lucky to find a first generation driver here. Second generation are also not so frequent. . :)

Life / Why oh Why do Poles drive so incredibly poorly [100]

Yes you are, you are tiny, miniscule. Probably smaller than a garden gnome.

You mean my physical size or moral standing now? hahaha

it's just not a very high standard.

You are imagining things, as usual. What do you know about it? You haven`t taken or even seen one?

Pawian doesn't seem to think there is a problem.

Of course, I do. I think it is a problem when you offer us such serious claims without factual evidence. :):)

his insurance rates for his car increase as his citations increase.

They increase if you cause crashes.

plus eventually with enough citations he loses his drivers license for a year.

Here it is 3 months first time, next time 6 months for speeding over 50 in urban area. Repeat offenders go to jail. If you collect over 24 points, you have to take the exam again.
