News / Presidential elections 2020 - your opinions about campaign, candidates [2222]

I'll vote for a lesser evil that is PiS candidate in the second round of voting.

Yes, exactly. I don`t know why you are saying it over and over again. I knew it from out last year`s discussions, that is why I placed you in the list. So I really don`t understand why you have a problem with it.

Bosak already made it clear that these are no conditions for holding an election.

That guy is more reasonable than many of his voters, it seems. :):)

History / Why could some Czechs dislike Poles/Poland? [46]

Yes, but we are talking about Cieszyn Silesia area which has always had strong Protestant church/churches and a lot of believers - from 10 to 50%.

where do I say that I support any politicians, they are all morons.

You are very inconsistent. On the previous page you commented very positively about young people who desire to become PiS politicians with a spectacular career.

I support Konfederacja first and foremost. PiS is my second best option

Yes, we know it. That`s enough to include you in the list of PiS supporters. The same with Iron.

Hey, guys, who openly support PiS and their candidate here: Spike, dolnośląsk, antheads, NotoForeigners, Ironside, gumishu, kondzior.
What do you think about PiS` firm plans to run the election on 10 May? Do you agree it is a good move not to cancel it? Are you going to vote?

In free Poland: Should PiS be sued for endangering people`s health and life?

Off-Topic / English teachers - 'functioning alcoholics with a superiority complex' [54]

That one, too, seems to be a Britishism

I am not British but I have known the word and used it sometimes. It is the same as caper around,
Flaunt is often used as an adjective - flaunting - impressive.

Here in the US, we stand, walk, or run on the beach. but I never "frolicked" and neither did my kids.

But you do realise that when you only stand, run or walk on the beach, you are a very narrow-minded and boring person. Like an accountant doing the tedious calculations. hahaha

What does one do when flaunting?

That`s what you do here: flaunt your poise and make lots of noise. hahahaha

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

Another disparity with dogs.

In English:you can`t teach an old dog new tricks. In Polish: you shouldn`t move/replant old trees.

Why so? Coz Poland abounded in forests while England had to import wood, also from Poland?

Off-Topic / English teachers - 'functioning alcoholics with a superiority complex' [54]

Hey did you notice I never asked you to answer the question, that's because i'm not bothered.

Yes, I know, I wrote it mainly to practice English. Your person is completely irrelevant here. :)

As for your cockroach stories you just don't get that problem if you have an apartment overlooking central park.

Ha! Bad advice, as usual. Park proximity causes the invasion of rodents which move to nearby buildings before winter.

Your own fault that you couldn't earn enough to buy /rent a good place to live.

Silly comment again. I earned enough to buy one in clean Poland. hahaha

Off-Topic / English teachers - 'functioning alcoholics with a superiority complex' [54]

There were two reasons, dolno.

Firstly, I returned to Poland coz I have always been so patriotic. I didn`t want to waste my genius in a foreign country and work all my life to make aliens feel good - I decided to use it for the good of my own country and my compatriots. I felt they needed me so much. Yes, it was me who invented the slogan MAKE POLAND GREAT AGAIN. Trump perfectly copied me.

Another reason, even more important, was total disappointment with the USA. After I found a few giant bugs in the kitchen in my NYC apartment, I realised I need to run away from the country where even cockroaches are the biggest in thw world. The fact they could so easily wander all over the building just put me off. That was madness - I wasn`t able to feel free in my own home! Can you believe it?

It was the the first time in the USA I saw those glue traps in my life. I had to use them, too. I will never forget that scene - a glue trap in the cupboard under the sink, and the giant bug in it, as long and wide as my finger, helplessly trying to crawl away. YUUUCK!

No, it wasn`t for me. Thank you very much.

Language / Short Polish<->English translations [1049]

Room - pokój
Peace - pokój.

A funny collocation from the home mass service: Przekażcie sobie znak pokoju w pokoju. Offer each other the sign of peace (in the room)."

History / Why could some Czechs dislike Poles/Poland? [46]

Cieszyn city which lies on two sides of the Czech-Polish border has been divided again. Due to the virus threat, citizens living in two parts can`t visit each other. Poles put a banner: I miss you, Czech.

Czechs replied with a similar banner: I miss you, Pole.

History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

we sing and dance, we reminisce, remember Poland the way it was and no longer is

You repeated it a few times recently and it struck me which Poland you are talking about.

Are you talking about communist Poland which ended in 1989? It is only 31 years so yes, it is possible you remember it with affection. :):)

Another Poland you could remember as it was and no longer is ended in 1939. 2020 minus 1939 equals 81 years. Also, we need to add a few years so that you could be old enough to have conscious recollections from your life. Let`s say about 10 years. So, it means you must have been born around 1930. That means you must be 90 years old today.

No, come on, you are much younger. :)

So, which ideal Poland from your memories do you dream about today?

Off-Topic / Stock Market and Trading Talk [1011]

BEFORE they started to tank, that I sold most all of them and started buying short.

Good!

If that is your strategy then I admire your confidence and lack of experience if you think they have hit bottom.

Sorry, I used a mental shortcut on you and hence the misunderstanding. I didn`t say you should buy today or tomorrow. I meant you should wait for real bottoms and then invest.

My pleasure to share with you. ;-)

Thanks, that was interesting to read about DT. However, what if the share price remains flat at around 18 for a longer time, like even years? I read somewhere DT was planning to cut their dividends to shareholders, that might be a little cold shower for them.

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

That's quite an essay...How about: let it be. Isn't English superior in every possible way? Just asking...

Rather not coz now you aretalking about the English translation while the original Polish proverb is shorter. Do you remember it? :):)

Language / Instrumental case in the Polish language. Am I understanding it right? [68]

How do polish people remember all these endings, isn't it tiresome?

hahaha Yes, they sometimes forget how to decline but only until the age of about 7-9. After that they become quite proficient.

But it turned out to be pomidorze. What the heck -ze?

hahaha How should I know? I don`t teach Polish but English.

But...... let me think. Well, other words which end with -or also decline like that in locative case:

lokator - lokatorze
murator - muratorze
kombinator - kombinatorze

There must be a rule concerning it.

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [195]

Another cultural disparity:

English proverb: let sleeping dogs lie vs Polish proverb: Do not call the wolf out of the forest.

It perfectly shows the wildlife situation in both countries : the last wolf of Great Britain was killed in 1680.

theguardian.com/science/animal-magic/2014/jul/21/last-wolf

In Poland, wolves used to be very common animals. Still are in some areas even today.

Language / Instrumental case in the Polish language. Am I understanding it right? [68]

I thought To Był dobry dzień= nominative case. Doesn't Był trigger instrumental case? Być verb

Oh, now I see what you meant.

So, your Polish declination in instrumental case is OK. That był/byli/było written with capital letters misled me a little coz I thought they were full seperate sentences.

Some spelling mistakes:

drugim drzewem

długim

zwierzętem

zwierzęciem
