Life / Why oh Why do Poles drive so incredibly poorly [100]

They are bad drivers but they are getting better - a big reason is that the roads are getting better and that makes people less impatient. The roads are also being built in a safer way - more bike lanes and traffic islands. I used to dread a long drive but now don't really think about it.

The par, king is not getting better however - Poles are terrible for their parking entitlements. One of the worst things is them parking in the disabled and family spaces while they go shopping.

Work / Got a Job Offer in Poland but a 3 month Visa and Probation Period concerns me [15]

I'm not going to ask myself that because I have no interest in the answer. You impute an awful lot about the guy on the basis of a few lines of questions and the odd bit of poor grammar. If he wants to use it a back door (and is there a front door ?) then that is no skin off my nose.

UK, Ireland / Starting a car business in Poland - exporting from the UK [5]

I would be amazed if you managed to sell even one car.

The only demand for British cars is very specialized for vintage jaguars, minis etc. probably a few hundred in the whole country.

I think there are also problems with registering UK cars with the steering wheel on the other side - not sure however

Work / Got a Job Offer in Poland but a 3 month Visa and Probation Period concerns me [15]

I think you forgot To mention the caste system

these are obviously all questions for the guys who are looking to employ you - you need to arrange a Skype call with them and go over those issues.

Being honest Dom I am just as happy to have hard-working clever Indians here in Poland who pay their taxes - we need some people to help fund the 500+ and all the other giveaways

Work / Companies in Poland that support Work Permit [8]

I would use LinkedIn and get in touch with the big consulting companies - there is a high demand for SAP skills but only an organized business will go through the bother with your permit.

Law / Divorce and a house bought in marriage with shared goods in Poland [3]

Do not leave the house ! You have a right to a share of the marital assets

Staying there creates some facts on the ground that help you.

See a lawyer - if you have no money then borrow some from a friend - for 1000 zloty you will probably get a few hours of lawyers time and it will be worth it.

News / How Poland bought German Airline Condor and might lose massive from it [34]

I am quite concerned about where this will end - for Polish regional towns then Frankfurt and Munich are the best air connections to the wider world and a fight between Lufthansa and LOT will make things more difficult. Poland might be a small market for Lufthansa but it is a growing one and they have a clear advantage there compared to the other big international groups.

I hadn't heard that LOT would be kicked out of Miles and More :( are you sure that is true ?

Food / Which foods are generally disliked/unpopular in Poland? Which non-Polish foods are slowly gaining popularity? [180]

There are a few Yugoslav places in Warsaw serving pleskavica and other Balkan stuff - the standard probably not up to what you are used to but OK for filling a hole. There was a place on Chmielna selling cevapcici and other stuff but I am not sure if it is still there.

A Croat guy has a few restaurants called Dubrovnik and started to set up a few outside Warsaw - the service is good, the food is filling and the beer and wine is excellent value there so it is often quite busy. It is one place I go in central Warsaw if I want to eat something "known".

Food / Which foods are generally disliked/unpopular in Poland? Which non-Polish foods are slowly gaining popularity? [180]

Of course they are naff compared to London - almost every city in the world is worse off than London for ethnic restaurants.poland is still quite a poor country and customers can not afford the best ingredients and chefs all the time.

Exception is sushi - apart from maybe Frankfurt and Düsseldorf I think Poland has the best in Europe and outside Warsaw most towns have some good sushi bar - it is becoming to Poles what curry is to English, a default option that you can take away or eat at the restaurant.

All supermarkets have plenty of ethnic food now - Piotr i Pawel, Lidl and Biedronka have pioneered that and the others followed. Poles returning from holidays have wider tastes and foreign travel has really taken off in the last 10 years.

I even disagree with what you say about strong cheese - it was never going to be a winner without organized retailers - many small shops in the 90s did not have chiller cabinets which are expensive to buy and run, there were few refrigerated trucks or warehouses. Now you can find a good range of French, Italian, Spanish cheeses in most supermarkets plus strong Austrian cheeses.

Study / School Uniforms in Poland - not required? [15]

They are not usual in most European countries (or in the US) - it's only really seen in British empire countries.

About 15 years ago the govt tried to bring them in but it didn't work - parents couldn't afford them, kids hated them and teachers couldn't be bothered arguing with the kids about enforcing the rules.

The logic behind the attempt was that kids were getting bullied for not having fashionable clothes.

Some private schools in Poland have a uniform - normally just a polo shirt or a sweatshirt with the schools logo rather than a full kit

News / First Coronavirus case in Poland? [30]

No mention of Poland from you as per usual.

Bit worried about your calls for genocide so I found this place in Illinois - a senior citizens centre where you can have a calming cup of herbal tea and do some senior citizens yoga. Might calm you down a bit

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

White West Virginia has murder rates 3x higher than all European states. The reason is poverty, lack of jobs and easy access to guns.

Being as parts of West Virginia are similar in living standards to Poland it is a fitting comparison.

This thread is bizarre - Americans trying to convince Poles to carry deadly weapons. As I said many times if it is needed then some politicians would put it in their program, which they haven't done.

You have left out old land of Lincoln 5.8 and your neighbors in Indiana 5.6. Can't be bothered to look up any more.

Never mind - it will soon be 5pm and time For some overstewed herbata and inauthentic pierogi while listening to some out of tune Nieman hits down the Pol Am club.

News / European funds - why Poland should refuse to receive them. [36]

I will hold on to mine if it's Ok with you. It might only be 67 zloty a head but it's 330 for my five person household and it's spent on roads, airports, playgrounds, cutting pollution etc.

If you really want to complain about dependency then the Polish govts own handout policies are the place to start.

Work / A predictable "Is my salary high enough post" - Krakow 13,500PLN GROSS Month [30]

Don't know about that - I see more and more Indians, not just in Warsaw.

In any case this guy is obviously highly skilled to be getting that money so not sure you would find anyone with the same skills at a loose end on the streets of Vinnitsa or Donetsk. 20k a month is easily enough to look after a family and still save plenty.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

So strap on your AK and walk down Arbat with it. I don't think the Moscow police will want to engage in a long discussion of freedom and constitutional rights.

They s thread is about Poland BTW, where nobody wants looser gun law. The articles of the constitution you refer too are from an off topic country.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Well excepting that fires are started by accident, can even e started from lightening. Fire extinguishers are easy to use - takes a minute to learn and they are not dangerous. Fire extinguishers save far more lives than guns. Fire extinguishers can not be used in bank robberies or gang violence and in the wrong hands they are not deadly weapons

Not the best metaphor really.

We have a presidential election coming up - no candidate is going to suggest guns are a good idea because we see the high death rates in the US.

If you answer try and leave London and Muslims out of it and tell us what the situation is like in Bytom or Elblag.

News / Poland economy is a financially drained economy of suppliers? [33]

I don't know - if they paid 250m and that's the l8mit of their exposure then ok. If it's 250m plus pensions on top of that then it's risky.

I will give credit to PiS that they have let LOT recover and it has a nice niche as one of the best networks for Eastern Europe, not just to the capitals and with convenient times, I'm worried this might upset that recovery.

The history of Polish state owned firms investing outside Poland has been fair,y disastrous - Orlen had some big problems in Germany and Czech: KGHM a couple of horror shows too.

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

Yes electric cars are stil generate much lower emissions than ICE even after taking into account the generation of the electricity, the production of the car, spare parts etc.

There are plenty of resources on the internet with all the proof and calculations you need

Obviously not good news for expert Ice Hockey playing politicians who rely on high oil prices to keep their population happy and rely on fossil fuels to bully their neighbors.

As someone else said we need to have the debate about nuclear fuel in Poland but politically very difficult

News / Polexit? Almost half of the Poles believe that Poland would be better off outside of the EU [548]

No - higher earners pay a vastly disproportionate share of the total tax that the govt collects. That is the same in all EU countries. It's not just income tax - they pay tax when they earn interest, tax when they buy and sell stocks, tax when they buy a flash car, tax when they fly for their holidays, tax when they buy a house.

The paradox is that the middle and working classes in Poland pay a far higher percentage share of their earnings but a far lower gross amount. They also are benefiting from moves like 500+ and 13th pension.

innpoland.pl/152281,panstwo-lupi-biednych-im-mniej-zarabiasz-tym-wieksze-podatki-placisz

Difficult to find a fair system, but all are fairer than your medieval idea of only using the tax for the police and the army.

In any case the EU has basically no say in tax structures in each country, except VAT, so whatever is good and bad about the system is down to Poland's politicians and voters.
