I suggest you spend a day driving around the main malls of Olsztyn and see what existing competition there is and how much they charge. Work out how many customers you need to cover your rent and other costs - then see how many that would be per week, per day etc and whether it is viable. Nobody here knows much about the beauty business so try and find out from Polish ladies how much they pay and how often they use that service

I'm talking more about organized retail and office space. Corner shops I have no idea but if you were to open one now you should be very careful about paying a high rent - there is huge overcapacity i and Zabka, Rabat and their imitators are not in a good position to withstand a downturn.

Prices are dropping very quickly in retail and office space too - plenty of good cheap rents going and lots of vacancy.

It's very sweet for Polish tastes and a bit overpriced against some good local competition.

Even small towns have pretty good ice cream shops. Today I had some good ice cream with the kids in Zuromin, just from a wooden shack in the town rynek.

Yes most places have smietankowe flavor. There are also tall Swirling ice creams called swiderki which come in cream or chocolate flavor (or mixed)

Ireland - up all the time from 1990 to 2008.

Lots of reasons for them faltering but generally a combination of bad government, over indebtedness, big global crises and corruption. The same ingredients are all present in Poland. My personal view is that Poland will continue its growth, butthe govt and the population shouldn't just sit back and wait for it to happen

Owing money is not a criminal charge in Poland (unless it's tax or a fine). This contract is a civil matter.

If the house is as bad as you say then move out ASAP - it not being safe is a very strong defense in any court case. Some of the stuff about wiring and walls is probably criminal on the landlords part, especially as you have informed them of the problem

Depends on how angry you feel - that sort of thing obviously has the potential to to escalate

But the real fault here is with the agent and you might have most leverage in these times by leaving reviews about how unprofessional and negligent they have been. They can't just take commissions with no responsibility for the end service.

For sure don't pay any more rent - if the house is unsafe then they are not performing the service of renting you the property. Whatever is in the contract can be trumped by the civil law.

I would stop paying rent, find somewhere else. Then when you are in your new place ask for your 4000 zloty back - both to the agent and the LL. Chances are small but make their lives a misery for a few weeks and you might get something.
