News / Presidential elections 2020 - your opinions about campaign, candidates [2222]

It's not a must to have a license or extra state funding because they also advertize.

Problem is that the falling number of viewers means they can charge advertisers less and in any case they start to lose advertisers when the programming doesn't fit their consumers profile. When you end up with an audience made up of the old the poor and the undereducated then obviously they have less spending power and are less interesting.

Add to that the fact that PIS has annoyed all the major advertisers with extra taxes and regulations - that is the cell phone companies, the retailers and the banks.

And then even aside from politics much of advertising has moved online in the last five years when PiS were in charge.

Food / Which foods are generally disliked/unpopular in Poland? Which non-Polish foods are slowly gaining popularity? [180]

The Poles do convenience meals In glass jars rather than cans - I guess stems from lack of availability of aluminium in commie times. Meatballs, tripe, golabki in jars are quite a common meal for guys who like to start the day with a kind of Warka strong.

The producers of those meals are now often owned by Weston companies - Heinz owns Pudliszki, Amino is owned by Unilever and I think Mars and Kraft also bought some commie producers.

The ready to cook chilled meals market is developing but far more slowly than it did in the US for example. It's still quite expensive relative to Polish wages and often if Poles are in a rush they would rather pick up a sandwich or a hotdog.

Work / Is it difficult to make a living modeling/singing in Poland? [8]

I don't know about singing. About modeling then if you are at an average level - e.g doing stuff for supermarkets, Malls, clothes shops or other advertisers that will be difficult and outside Warsaw almost impossible. Send your stuff to a few agents and see what their response is.

Work / Is it difficult to make a living playing Soccer (football) in Poland? [54]

google.pl/amp/s/m.sportowe

If you read Polish this is a good guide - 3 years old though so if you add a bit of inflation I guess it's 5-10k a month in the lower leagues - probably you won't get paid in the off season. Below 2 Liga most clubs are part time and to are unlikely to make much money

Good luck - you probably need to think about a back up plan but if you speak Polish there are other jobs around

Difference is that by being in the Euro it's not so easy for the Slovak govt to give taxpayers money away to the people who don't pay taxes.

Still hopeful however that we will see a change in Poland - Duda is just far too weak for a big country.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

You have asked everyone if they have used a gun and the answer is yes from most people.

We are not allowed assault rifles so we don't know what we would do if a burglar came with a highly difficult to obtain gun and decided he only wanted to use it to steal a few hundred zloty and a picture of the black Madonna (because like normal people our money is in the bank)

Now you seem to be rambling about balls but you still haven't answered my question - have you ever usd your balls for their intended purpose?

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

We understand that. But this thread is about whether gun laws in Poland should be relaxed. So what the hell does the US or Russian constitution have to do with that ?

There is no public or political support among us weaels for carrying moronic guns.

Still no answer to my question BTW ?

LOL - the closest you ever got to a trigger was stripping down some bent and rusty AKs at a pioneer summer camp while getting bitten by mosquitoes next to some polluted lake

There is no way Putin is going to allow Russians to carry guns unless they are his bodyguards

How are we losing the debate ? - next time you come to Poland wait outside Biedronka ask 100 Poles old and young, rich and poor, urban and rural if they want looser gun laws

ask them if they think teachers should be trained in firearms

And yet the troubled Europeans are richer, live longer, have more time off, healthier and more equal than Americans.

And don't even mention the trashy living standards and life expectancy in Russia (which by the way is an absolute monarchy right now)

I loved my time living in the US but many things are more free in Europe with consumers able to make their own decisions.

The US constitution is not some holy book - it's the product of a bunch of 18th century lawyers and tobacco growers and you can see right now the inequalities and poor governance that stems from some of its weaknesses

Those numbers are incorrect and by leaving out Scotland - scene of the only school shooting in uK history they are an obvious nonsense

The ban on handguns was inspired by revulsion at what had happened

1997 Uk homicides 88
1996 uk homicides 122 - including a bunch of 8 year old kids

Basically all the numbers given by you guys are either wrong or half truths the best - it is totally obvious that higher gun ownership leads to higher murder rates and that is why it has such low support in Europe

And in Europe it's not a left right politics issue because you will see people who vote for right wing parties and right wing politicians are also strongly opposed to looser gun laws.

Poles are overworked ?

Not sure if you've ever been in an out sourcing business but it is a bunch of desks, some telephones, some laptops and a coffee machine -

It's not interesting but the pay is Ok and you get to turn off when you leave

it is not comparable to some 19 century coal mine.

that poll looks hell of a close one Torq. I think Duda is going to struggle in a debate against either KB or KK and either would be an improvement on him. KK at least is fresh and certainly cant be worse than Duda (or Komorowski, or Lech K for that matter).

What I am afraid of is a very close 2nd round - 51/49. I know that those fine margins split the country so much, end up in court and won't allow us to move on. PiS and PO have been fortunate with a long boom and haven't interfered too much with the economy - that is now at an end and PiS are spending and borrowing too much at a time when a downturn is coming. 10 years ago voters remembered communism and the hard early 90s and were more patient.

Work / Choice of Poland's OFE ( Open Pension Funds ) [30]

What a ludicrous argument.

This is a tax on all Poles including those who don't claim 500+ but have pension savings, + people who haven't had kids yet, people who don't want them, people who can't have kids, people who have grown up kids.

Some benefits and taxes were in their election program but this one was not.
