Law / Old Polish money banknotes - what's their value today? [415]

10,000, 5,000

Is it coin or paper currency? If banknote it's worthless. If it's one of the silver coins can be worth $40-$200, maybe up to $400-$700 for uncirculated condition to the right collector. If a rare gold version, several thousand.

News / Dodgy PRL-holdover judiciary finally reformed [420]

There are many articles about Kremlin sponsoring of pro Russian

So what? Even if it were true what's the big deal? Foreign countries, NGOs, etc. sponsor political groups all the time - no different with PO or the left, especially from Soros and all the pro-EU groups. So it's okay for one group to take money from a certain country, person or group but not another? Hmmm....

Good for them though - the nationalists need to get all the funding they can to fight the good fight. Idc if it's the Taliban or North Korea that gives NOP/ONR/RN/etc. money

But, if they don`t apply the EU law now, Poland will have to pay fines.

Polish law trumps EU law de facto each and every time. A law, fine, etc. means nothing when it can't be enforced. Just look at the whole bogus article 7 procedures or when they tried to strip Poland of EU funds because we didn't want a flood of third worlders or even the situation in Crimea. Yeah, on the books de jure Crimea belongs to Ukraine, de facto and in reality in belongs to Russia.

The EU is all bark and no bite. PiS realized that a long time ago and that's why they can keep doing what they're doing, all while remaining the most popular party in Poland.

But, if they don`t apply the EU law now, Poland will have to pay fines.

Sure, even if that happens big deal a few million in fines for the EU to give Poland billions in funding. A good trade imo. As the saying goes, gotta spend money to make money...

News / The ruling party in Poland tries to take American owned TV news station off the air [528]

"most Poles think this or that." :):) You see - now you are discrediting all your previous defenses.

Which is why I quoted ISPSOS and CBOS, both are neutral and both show that the majority of Poles don't want third worlders, gay marraige and abortion. And if we're following your line then it also equally discredits your statement that 66% of Poles want TVN independent, especially when you can't cite the source making it highly suspect that it may be a biased source i.e. wyborcza, TVN's own poll, etc.

Again, that's why I'm asking WHO conducted this poll - is it someone neutral like IPSOS, CBOS, etc. or TVN, Wyborcza, etc.?

You fancy yourself an educated person so you ought to know that data and statistics can be easily manipulated to show certain results. It's called statistical bias. If it's someone like TVN conducting their own polls then there may be a bias

I did it only for you coz I know you love majority statistics. HA!

Apparently you do too, but only when they're in your favor and when you agree with something. But when neutral polls show that Poles don't want gay marraige, third worlders, abortion, etc. now you're against the majority... Only when it suits you...

News / The ruling party in Poland tries to take American owned TV news station off the air [528]

66% polled Poles who believe TVN must stay whole and independent.

Oh so now suddenly you agree with what the majority wants... funny how when polls show that 74% of Poles who don't want third worlders in Poland or the 66% who are against gay marraige you're against them...

And who conducted this supposed poll that 2/3 of Poles want TVN to remain as is? IPSOS, CBOS, or TVN or some affiliated/friendly group?

How about this - fine let's assume that 2/3 of Poles want TVN to remain in the hand of New York jews... if we're following the wishes of Polish people on all accounts that means no third world migration, no gay marraige, no abortion, etc.

Then figure out how to achieve that ethically rather than third world sh|thole tactics like retroactive legislation.

The people in PiS did - they initially sought to buy out stakes in the foreign media companies. In some cases it worked, in others it didn't. So they used the law. I find that to be ethical, which is totally subjective and relative anyway. They could've just as easily sent in a bunch of investigators over tax payments or fraud or whatever and kept digging till they uncover some kind of impropriety which they eventually would, or make one up. Or just straight up nationalized it. So yes, relatively, they are and have been taking the more ethical route.

People that have power, wealth, etc. 99% of the time didn't get there by being "ethical." They may pretend to be and spout off some slogans or put up a plaque with some donation amount, but at the end of the day it's all b.s. And actually, it's the ones who claim to be so pure and holy, so ethical, that are oftentimes the biggest crooks.

coz it is illegal in view of the European Union law.

Big deal. They can't enforce jack **** so it's pointless. It won't change a thing. Just like when the EU threatened sanctions, article 7, etc. etc. for things like refusing to take in migrants in 2015, not allowing gay marraige, PiS control of judiciary, etc. And what did PiS do? They gave the EU the middle finger, telling them to come enforce their "decisions" and "rulings," then kept going on with business as usual.

Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [401]

Some Polish Jews bear typical Polish names

That's because of the whole crypto jew phenomenon... tons of jews changed their names to sound more Polish. Just look at the original names of a handful of the old PO "reformed commies"

Frejdlich

That is most definitely not a Polish name...

Work / Expatriating to Poland... good career move for a young male? [50]

Poland is the worst country of the Vishehrad group to live.

And yet it's the defacto head of Visegrad...

Or maybe Poland's just less developed and more rural than Slovakia and CR.

Those countries also have a much smaller population. Slovakia has always been poorer than Czechia, even when they were Czechoslovakia. It's like East and West Germany. The economic disparity exists till today.

And actually, if you go to Poland's cities you'll find plenty of well to do people especially in places like Wroclaw, Warsaw, etc. There's as many new expensive cars per capita as even in the USA or a Western country. And property values have soared - there's tons of houses selling for 250, 500, 1mln Euro and up - and Polish people are buying them.

This isn't 1990's Poland where people made a few bucks a day and everything was cheap. Poland is just as modern and developed as its western neighbors. Yes, the average salaries are lower but the cost of living is also lower. And actually Poland's average incomes are now higher or on par with countries like Greece, Portugal, Spain, etc. The economy as a whole has a higher nominal GDP than many other western EU countries like Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, etc..

Life / Fat People in Poland? [161]

Do we have so many bodybuilders now, much more then 20 years ago? I don't know.

There was this sort of fad like 10-20 years ago with Polish guys taking steroids, lifting, being body builders now, etc. That era produced Mariusz Pudzianowski. Now at least for males MMA, kickboxing, etc. are more popular. Even Pudzian went from strongmen competitions to MMA.

Work / Family of four considering a move to Poland from USA [31]

Poland is likely still cheap to me, and you can buy a newly built house for about $120k.

Precisely why I'm moving. I can buy a nice ass house paid for in cash and never have to worry about a mortgage or paying several grand every year in property taxes alone ever again. And that's one of the best things about it - the taxes on property are a joke compared to many places in the USA.

Perhaps atleast 15k?

I wouldn't take any salary that's less than 12-15k, but it also depends on how the commission/bonus is. Either way stand your ground and negotiate hard, focus on the value and revenue you'll bring. With sales it's very simple - either you bring in enough revenue to justify your position or you don't. On the other hand, you don't want to bring in a bunch of money making others rich while you get shafted making a lower income.

Will your position have subordinates like inside sales reps/fronters, a secratary/assistant or dealers or something like that? Or is it more you working a territory and traveling to do prospecting, closing deals, visiting clients, etc?

How many working hours per week? How long holiday?

40 hours is required, most put in time outside of work hours though answering calls, emails, traveling from place to place, etc. Idk about holidays for everyone, but most have like 3 weeks vacation/personal plus the regular state holidays.

Work / Family of four considering a move to Poland from USA [31]

@malbork

I'm actually in quite a similar situation... PL born with passport, living in US, worked in sales/sales management most of my adult life, looking to move back to Wroclaw (where I'm from) or some other city in Poland due to being sick of living in urban American (Chicago in my case) and either continue working in sales or go into consulting, open a small business or something of the sorts in Poland.

Here's what I can tell you based on my experience/research with sales - stats show a sales manager ought to make at least 12-15k+ ZL salary on the low end plus an additional commission/bonus. A Swedish transportation (cargo, RoRo, etc.) company in Gdansk offered 30k EU + commission for an RSM position, the company I work for now pays their Polish RSMs $24k USD salary + commission (about $2-$4k a month for an average PL based RSM with the top two guys over there consistently averaging $5-6k, and up to 10k+ a month top during peak season) and for their Ukranian RSMs $12k annually + same commission structure. I recently found out that the Ukrainian government imposed a sort of tax on everyone's salary to help bring in money to fight the war against Russia.

If you have a proven track record of bringing in big clients and a lot of revenue and are known in your industry than people will be fighting over hiring you. Or, you can always go into consulting especially if you have a grad level education and work for a company like Bain, McKinsey, Booz Allen, etc. all of whom have offices in Poland. The salaries are going to be around the same 12-20k ballpark but the December bonuses can easily be 50-100%+ of annual salary.

News / Political life of Poland [135]

Highly unlikely... even the "liberals" in Poland are quite socially conservative. Afterall, this is a country where the vast majority of people do not support things like third world immigration, LGBT, etc. and the Catholic church has a ton of influence. It's not gonna go the way of UK or USA that's for sure and that's good enough for me.

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [582]

Jews never have and will never be the same as Poles. We are two entirely different people. Our traditions, our history, our ideologies, our religions and even our biology and genetics are totally different.

Love / What do you think of Polish girls? [40]

Just date someone wealthier than you if you plan to have a serious relationship... then you don't have to worry about a guy using you for your money. Personally, I don't know why anyone would be involved with someone outside their social class, ethnicity, worldview, etc. if they're pursuing a serious relationship. It's bound to just cause problems down the line.

Work / Can I find a job in Poland that requires speaking in English? [82]

would she be able to find work there if we decided to go before she retired?

Probably not unless she has some really unique computer skills - coding, programming, etc. and even then she'll be competing with a much younger crowd who are more likely to get the job.

Idk how the system works in Canada, but in the US you receive a social security once you hit 65 (you can get it earlier, but you'll get less money). It's only around $1,200 a month per person, but if you have your house paid off and no mortgage $2,400+ is enough for 2 people to live decently in Poland. If Canada has a similar social security system and you can receive it while living abroad you're better off just waiting a few years.

We have been to Poland twice travelled all over and fell in love with the country.

Most people do = )

I would just fly from Chicago to Poland on your US passport and go through the quarantine. Or go through Holland - when I was researching flights when my grandpa passed recently it looked like Holland didn't have the restrictions that other countries did.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

Not so true about the Rolex... most models tend to cost more on the secondary market than straight from the authorized dealer...

But I doubt that Tesla will do well in Poland. They're too expensive for the average buyer, maybe the model 3 or cybertruck, but certainly not the model s or the suv they make

History / What Hitler really thought about Poles? Hitler's letter to Himmler 1944 [111]

A recent survey conducted showed that 1 in 5 Poles agree with the statement that "war is a horrible thing, but it is good that it resulted in fewer Jews in Poland".

The majority agreed that ""jews have too much influence in the world" and "too much power in business and finance"

UK, Ireland / It's nearly impossible to get a Polish Passport appointment at the London Konsulat [11]

Polish government institutions tend to be useless, it doesn't really matter where they are. If your in trouble in a foreign country you can forget about the Polish embassy helping you.

Personally, I'd just do this in Poland if I were you. They'll give you your PESEL number in the same urzad wojewodzki where you get your dowod.

Love / Divorced a Cheating Polish Wife [62]

Main reason I chose an English wife

I don't blame you. But in all honesty, it just comes down to psychology, repetition, etc. It's no different than domesticating a wild animal. Polish people are cwaniaki, the women are no different. If anything with globalization and EU entry they've realized they can use their unique looks to get over on men, especially foreign men. If you let them **** you over they will. They don't have the same like inherent honesty and decency that say British people do. They're far more opportunistic.

Personally, I've always preferred Latinas - Mexican, Guatemalan, Columbian, etc. Their personalities seem to mesh with mine the most. The way Muslim men must feel when they first arrive in Europe is how I felt during the few months I lived in Mexico. I'd still be living there if it wasn't so ******* dangerous. That place makes Chicago look like the Vatican.

but no sex before marriage has never been the Polish norm...

It use to be decades ago... but even then that was mostly only among the uber Catholics in the villages...

She's not the problem, you are. You didn't lay down the law at the get go so she sensed weakness and took advantage of you. Eastern European women sense that - especially Polish and even more so Ukrainian. They're beautiful to look at, but dangerous to get close unless you really know what you're doing and how to handle them. Kind of like poisonous snakes or tigers. Eastern European men tend to know their tricks and they don't really put up with them (perhaps maybe that's why domestic violence isn't that big of a deal in E European countries... idk...) but foreigners who aren't privvy get got 9 out of 10 times.

us passport

Sounds more like UK... "maintenance" is more of a UK term...

UK, Ireland / It's nearly impossible to get a Polish Passport appointment at the London Konsulat [11]

I am having the EXACT same issue renewing my passport at the Polish embassy in Chicago. It's a travesty. I've called several times and there's about a 5% chance of someone picking up the phone - otherwise it just disconnects or goes to a recording. When someone does pick up the phone, they just tell you to "keep checking daily." I've explained that I've been checking daily since November. They dgaf....

The only available appointments they have are for the Poles' Card (Karta Polaka) but for passports it keeps saying "no available dates till feb 12" and for citizenship matters just "no available dates" with no dates listed. However, I looked on the other consulates like in Minnesota, Texas, etc. and they did have availability. I would travel there but when I asked if I can go to any consulate to renew passport one person said yes it doesn't matter, another said no, you have to do it in the area of one closest to you...

@dolnoslask

IDK if it's the same as in the USA, but here if you don't have an appointment they won't let you in the building, but you can't get an appointment by phone/online to enter the building.... Catch 22. It's like I'm living in PRL again...

It's real hit or miss at the government offices both abroad and in Poland. Sometimes you get some old hag from the PRL days who has been working there since Jaruzelski was in charge and they'll find every reason not to help you, unless you kiss their ass and begin every sentence with "prosze pani." But, there's also the younger ones, especially males, that are a bit more helpful and will actually explain what you need to do, where you need to go, etc.
