News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Personally, I'm not for taking in thousands of Muslims or blindly following what the EU dictates. I also happen to disagree with tiny insecure "men" (who think that they are standing up for traditional Polish values or whatever ) trying to tell women what to do with their bodies, it's pathetic. Of course they're not exactly like Muslims but, come on, you have to see the similarity.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

It's funny how many of the "men" on here are both anti-abortion i.e. telling women what to do yet are also anti-muslim because (among other things) they try to tell women what to do. Really, on this issue, the fellas should just keep out of it.

Law / Refused Poland's citizenship from Polish president, what to do now? [47]

I kind of agree here. If you have permanent residency, why bother? Of course a Polish passport might allow you some extra things, maybe some banking and investing would be easier but as a foreigner, you can't expect everything. Permanent residency allows you to basically do what you want in Poland.

Law / Old Polish money banknotes - what's their value today? [415]

You're all rich. Rich, rich, rich I say!!!!!!!

You may now toss your hats into the air and run madly through the streets kissing strangers, jumping and clicking your heels together. I can't believe it!!!!!!

You lucky ducks.

I so wish I were you.

USA, Canada / Poland has no real historical grievance against USA [27]

The real question is "Where would the weak Republic be without the glorious nation of Poland?" From it's founding America has relied upon Polish military genius and leadership to help it's poor and failing armies march on against the English onslaught. Today, a country made up of immigrants, which looks to this European nation for enlightenment and guidance, should take a moment, a day, a week, a whole month, to commemorate the contributions and sacrifices the Poles have made to fortify and glorify these lost souls. From Scarlett Johansson or Sasha Grey to Zbiegniew Brzezinski and Alan Greenspan, without Polish blood America would have stumbled and fallen into its own feces decades, if not centuries ago.

Please take a moment to mention some of your favorite Poles who have tried to lead the Yankee swine out of the darkness...

Life / My experience in Poland 15 years ago as an American trying to live and work there. [167]

I'll pile on and add that 60-70k dollars/year is not possible in the job market unless you are an extremely high-level manager/board member in a major company, this is simply not a sum that is paid. If you were transfered here with a big company, sure, if you have some brilliant business idea that you would like to pursue and have the start-up capital, the sky is the limit, but working in ANY company, nein.

Work / Can I find a job in Poland that requires speaking in English? [82]

Ugh! O.K. Again...

The job situation for English teachers in Warsaw is fine, you can find as much work as you want as long as you have a bit of a clue about teaching. If you're completely unmotivated, really creepy or have some ridiculously difficult accent which you refuse to drop, you may have problems but for the semi-normal teachers, work is abundant, even in the Summer you should be able to fill in with privates (paying at least 50 zl/60 min. cash). I don't know what the motivation is for people on here painting the situation as dire, it is not, never has been.

Real Estate / Manor House and building plots for sale - how to go about selling my Poland's property? [15]

I'm not saying I'd start looking for real estate on Facebook...Clearly that would be retarded. The Dworek Buying Gentleman however, may very well be a Facebook user. I know some real estate brokers back home who list "special" properties on FB. Properties which they think friends might be interested in, good deals, etc.

Work / Language Teachers - do you feel respected in Poland? [86]

Nobody asked about your errands because it doesn't really matter if you were sorting out your karta pobytu, looking for a new pair of shoes or buying cream for your athelete's foot. You should have either not scheduled the class or sent the student a message that you were running late. You seem a bit oblivious to proper form when it comes to interacting with clients.

Work / Language Teachers - do you feel respected in Poland? [86]

I have to agree...taking a shower seven minutes before class is completely unprofessional on your part, and it sounds like you reacted a bit too aggressively, making the guy wait outside of your apartment/school.

Genealogy / Was my moms family (Kowalsky) Russian or Polish? [35]

Really, asking about these nationalities is pointless, the region has changed hands so many times. If the family emigrated just before changing hands that would...what? Change nationality? Your're from Central/Eastern Europe.

History / Polish Easter Tradition is also pagan! [47]

Umm... Wet Monday is celebrated in many slavic countries, including Hungary. It may have originated in Poland but even that is uncertain.

Travel / Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines? [380]

I hope that Lufthansa takes over. Good food, always courteous, The Munich airport has free coffee/tea and newspaper stands all about. If your flight is delayed they give you vouchers for a bite to eat in the airport. Decently priced tickets. Really, for the last couple of years they have out-classed all other airlines.

Life / Halloween vs All Saints' Day in Poland [48]

Most American holidays are about selling things, it's also spreading across the world. I don't hate Halloween though. Allegedly it came from Ireland when people used to dress up to keep the spirits from taking them back to the land of the dead ( can't be bothered to Wiki this). I think that the idea of putting on a costume (you can make it yourself) and going to a party where there may be carved pumpkins sitting around is quite nice. I like the idea of celebrating the Autumn and the "death" of Summer. If you want to spend 500 zl. on a costume and buy a bunch of plastic decorations that's up to you but decorating the house and having a bit of fun is alright in my book. You can even get up and go clean the graves the next day if you wish.

Work / Working in Poland without speaking Polish [75]

I literally teach the whole street

You can't be as tough as the guy who teaches the whole street. You'd have to be as tough as asphalt to teach asphalt :)

USA, Canada / Anglo-mangling of Polish surnames in the US/Canada [22]

I've recently had a Korean student in class who calls herself by a "traditionally Polish" first name. Granted, we could pronounce her first name with just a little bit of effort, but I think that many people try to be culturally sensitive to the citizens of the place they live. Not doing so is called being a "dick" or "American/British". Of course, everyone is an individual and worthy of maintaining his/her given name, but what's wrong with trying to make life a bit easier on the citizens of one's host country? I see nothing wrong with being adaptable.

Language / POLISH 18 - 30 years old know MUCH BETTER ENGLISH language than their own native language! [102]

Sparks11:
The fact that ALMOST none of the Polish people who have happened across this internet discussion have answered proves your point. You are clearly right beyond a shadow of a doubt.

This has been answered by Zetigrek; the rest of Polish people didn't bother. Are your skills in reading English so bad?

Umm... I guess they're not so bad. At least I can detect sarcasm....

Language / POLISH 18 - 30 years old know MUCH BETTER ENGLISH language than their own native language! [102]

The fact that almost no polish even dared to write how they say in their own native polish language, such easy translation,
proves that not even 1% of polish people can speak polish language correctly,

Yes....The fact that ALMOST none of the Polish people who have happened across this internet discussion have answered proves your point. You are clearly right beyond a shadow of a doubt. My bad. This site represents every single one of the 10's of millions of Polish people on the planet.
