Zwłoki kurczaka.

You always eat zwłoki unless you are a vegetarian. :):):):) I prefer straightforward approach - without beating about the bush.

BTW, there is a new riddle. What is it this kefir shake based on??? Warning: it isn`t what you guess by the look.

News / Britain - problem for Poland and Poles? [175]

An extensive interview with a Polish expert on British housing market which has gone to the dogs and is draining the assets of both the state and lodgers.

onet.pl/informacje/krowoderskapl/wielka-brytania-doprowadzila-do-katastrofy-mieszkaniowej-idziemy-jej-sladem/fkxxp9y,30bc1058

Main points:

In Great Britain, until the end of the 1970s, municipal construction dominated. This changed at the beginning of the government of Margaret Thatcher, who distributed municipal housing and changed the housing model to one similar to the one in Poland today.

It is based on rent from private owners and huge amounts of money allocated for rent subsidies or, for example, own contribution. A situation has arisen in which - says Dr. Marcin Galent from the Jagiellonian University - you can earn more by not building apartments than by building them.

Today, apartments in Great Britain are the smallest and most expensive among Western European countries
Housing expenses account for approximately 40 percent. family income. Back in the 1970s it was 20-25 percent. It was cheaper not only to rent, but also to buy your own house or apartment

Dr. Marcin Galent from the Jagiellonian University says: The British model of the housing market has led to a disaster. Ours is very similar.

A part of the interview:

If you haven't lived in the UK, it may be hard to believe, because we don't associate Great Britain with a place where life is bad or poor. More like a rich country where you go to earn better money.

I lived in Great Britain for three years. In different places. Usually those that are considered "the better ones". In Notting Hill, London, Cambridge, Oxford. These are islands of luxury, and yet when I saw the housing standards there, I was shocked. For various reasons, because, for example, I was used to having two panes of glass in the window and a radiator. And in England this is not obvious. The apartments are often in a dilapidated condition. And that's one thing. But the second thing is that it's getting worse. The standard is falling. The premises are getting smaller. The apartments decreased by 1/5 in a short time. The new ones feel like a dollhouse. If I have a staircase in Krakow, two people can pass each other on the stairs. In a new building in the UK this can be difficult. The apartments are miniature, but they are also crowded and overcrowded. It is standard that singles who cannot afford to buy anything of their own live in apartments intended for families. Within a decade, by 50 percent. The number of twenty-year-olds who do not have their own home has increased. Back in the 1980s, the average age of a new apartment buyer was 26, now it is 32. University graduates who start working often cannot even afford to rent an apartment, so it is common for their parents to subsidize their housing expenses. The scale is such that it has a name - it is called "Mommy's Bank", and young people are referred to as the "Rental Generation".

News / Time to clean the swamp - dePiSification of Poland [324]

PIS gangsters still occupy state media buildings. They take turns every day. AmaSSing. :):):)

Here are 3 of them from today`s shift. The one on the right, with that most human face, is Ryszard Legutko, my professor of philosophy class at uni in 1980s. We, students of the English department, respected and looked up to him coz we knew he didn`t like communists, remained independent and kept away from marxist approach to philosophy. He had also graduated from English department in 1973 so additionally it gave good vibes to our meetings.

Today he sold his soul to the devil and supports PiS, the same bolsheviks he once used to oppose. He does it for huge cash which he is paid by the EU being a rightist member to the Euro Parliament. Money does`nt bring happiness but without money it is easier to run into bad luck, sort of. hahahaha

AmaSSing how decent people can go to the dogs during lifetime.

Life / Who are the Polish singers (Classical or Folk songs) [11]

Here performing the famous song Silence

And now his most famous song: Autumn Roses. You can guess it is a bit sad and nostalgic...... :):)

PS. The joke from 20th century was that Polish archeologists dug out a mummy in Egypt which woke up and asked: Does Fogg still sing??? hahahaha

Autumn roses, sad tea roses.
Autumn roses are like your beloved lips.
The purple trees are the last to give us shelter
. And hearts beat like a bell, in one tone.

Autumn roses whisper quietly about separation.
Autumn roses tell us about goodbye.
And in a cloud of leaves we walk through the wilderness of the park.
Autumn roses are already withering.

It was May so recently, we were so happy,
smiling and tender, who will revive these days again?
Give me a cool hand, look me in the eye and tell me
Do you love me, I know, it's an illusion and a dream

:)

:):):) It looks amasing, in fact!!!

How do I cook it? I buy chicken carcass - so called broth piece and smoke it for 3 hours in our smokehouse. Then when I have it on the plate, I do what I like best - dig, scratch and scrape tiny pieces of meat off the carcass. The rump is the most delicious. HA!

Life / Who are the Polish singers (Classical or Folk songs) [11]

Old or recent does not matter.

OK.

The first singer who appeared on Polish TV before the war was Mieczysław Fogg. He continued singing after the war too and did it for a few decades with unwavering popularity.

An amazing person coz he took part in Polish wars of the time as a soldier or artist.

Here performing the famous song Silence (the one with trumpet motif, you know):

I am not fond of sauerkraut/cabbage with mushrooms on Christmas Eve. I eat those ushka with cabbage/mushroom stuffing for tradition, not taste.
However, drinking sauerkraut juice with your carp is both healthy and tasty! Voilla!

Life / Do you know any specific Christmas traditions to be found only in Poland? [15]

Polish tradition is gifts are given on Christmass Eve, not the next day.

Another tradition which exists in our family is we like presents which we have already been given before. That is why my kids, after 3 years, again gave me a kit of hot sauces (fortunately without that nasty Scorpion sauce which I still haven`t finished) and a craft beer.

History / Pol-Shorpy Photo Thread [950]

It is a Soviet soldier

This reminds me other moments of Polish history.

German soldiers taking photos in the Main Square in occupied Krakow in 1940. In the background- famous St Mary`s Cathedral.

Photo 2 - German troops march into the Wawel Castle

PS. Nazis believed Krakow was a German city coz there used to be a lot German settlers in the Middle Ages.

Life / What do Poles really think about cats? [470]

why Poles love cats so much

This thesis is a bit far fetched coz Poles love dogs and cats like all other nations. In the same proportions I suppose - dogs more than cats. All of my family, friends and acquintances cherish positive feelings about dogs but some don`t like cats.

by adopting a nonchalant attitude-much like a cat's indifference to human concerns.

That`s what attracts me in cats - that permeating atmosphere of personal independence and freedom. A dog will always love its owner no matter how they treat the pet. While you have to strive to deserve the cat`s love.

"If we can survive all that, so can a cat."

Amasing opinions does that AI have. I would never think of that. :):):)

All in all, thanks for an interesting input.

Food / Polish Christmas Eve Dinner recipes [84]

You sell it for twice the price you bought it for

No! That is the copy of a recipe for how to become an Am millionaire. That`s what I heard as a boy in communist times:

You buy one orange and sell it for a higher price.
Next, you buy two oranges and sell them for a higher price.
etc etc.

Is it surprising that oranges have always been one on my fave exotic fruit???

Food / Polish Christmas Eve Dinner recipes [84]

Tomorrow I am going to cook my fave carp ala Jewish in sweet sauce with almonds and raisins. There is only one problem - we bought fillets and steaks but I forgot to buy heads which are excellent for that recipe.

PS. Shyt - I just remembered I also forgot to buy almonds. I will use kidney nuts instead.
