Merged: LOT - who is running that firm?

Must be some thieving or incompetent of the PO-kind! Political-nominee! Doing nothing to improve service and organization of LOT!
Never again I will use that company - being ripped off and all.
Really sad that those jackasses are running to the ground another firm build on public monies!

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

Nope. Just like westerners, for sure.

Ah , but I have never said that have I?
All I'm saying fuzz that so called communism wasn't a single issue which molded Polish mentality (or shaped) into something different from those of western Europe.

I know that you don't like me and vice-versa but for once pay attention.

Secondary points, you can skip them:

waiting on line for food every day

Actually it was only truth for the last 9 years or so.......it wasn't constant you know, line for food you can find after 1945 in Britain, Italy; as a matter of fact occupation oppression and all that you can find in Germany after war as well.

In all it is not an unique experience for Europe!

no right to vote

You have to vote !Only choices were narrowed ...

filtered TV and all other media for that matter

As if media were telling the truth now eh? enjoy your reality !

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

but this sentence only proves Teffle and I's point.

No it doesn't fuzz!
Because you said that experience of communism make Poles mentality different from western mentality (whatever that means). Well no it doesn't !
And fuzz, empty shelves, queues are not that important!

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

OK Ironside,

OK Teffle yes. communism had impact on Poles, however not to such degree as you and fuzz posts seems to imply. I would say that WWII was a biggest single experience for Poles, one which shaped Poles in a way that western nations cannot comprehend.

However, in the context of :western - eastern mentality; such simple observation made by fuzz has no use.

Guys, Teffle and fuzz, both of you belief in reason. I thought that there is more to that than simple atheism. I though that you are used to use your reason for everyday issues. Yet, there you are making such simple observation that any Johnny and Harry, rednecks full of Bible's nonsense could have made.

What use is your reason for ?

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

That's a question for Adnar, who made the claim and Fuzzy who disagreed with it.

No, that is a question for both of them.

Personally I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that there may be a quite different national psyche between those who have lived mostly under communism (like the 44+ mentioned) and those who have never known it.

You can suggest whatever you like but your suggestion is on a very high level of generalization - be specific, be learned. Do you believe in the age of reason?

Where is your reasoning then?
You make observation which seems to be explaining something but it doesn't; your observation doesn't even scratch surface of the problem.
I can do the same: horse - what horse is like everybody can see!

By the way define - national psyche and while you are on it pry tell in what way the national psyche of Poles changed under communism (or not).

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

Someone said that Polish mentality is more Western than Eastern,

Define western or easter mentality or both and then we can talk.

Ironside overreacted again by saying:

Fuzz is pretending to be such a knowledgeable dude, almost a guru.
Somebody used generalization,he answered with generalization of his own, one which doesn't explain anything.

How can you compare people in Poland with people in France for example ? - with know how!
If you don't know how then do not state your feelings or personal opinion as an objective truth.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

uhmmm.....I.......well......cough........I think I like......said exactly what I wanted to say in the sentence before that. did you just not read that part? i think the example i listed is a pretty valid point..........eerrrr...........am I typing?

You think ? Don't make me laugh, your problem fuzz is that you don't think.

the majority of Poland's population right now grew up during communist times

gee ....really ...eh ....don't say ....my goodness how we could have overlooked ....err .....no......

and everyone over the age of about 44 has spent more years in communism than in a democratic society

I'm impressed you know your numbers fuzz....Sunday school was good for you......
Statements like that are there to impress, simple, elegant and yet cutting edge is there, that fuzz is somebody eh..
You forget to say whatever it was a quality time for them.

how can you compare a country full of people like that to people in western europe?

Again bulls eye, how can you compare a country to people eh?
Surely you cannot....you are so brilliant fuzz ...thank you .... one question though, do you have same issues with Europe ?

said exactly what I wanted to say in the sentence before that

So what exactly did you say fuzz ?

News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

Currently the EU is divided into three blocks.

Currently the EU have only one bloc - Germany and France, the rest is working on the fringes of EU. They are not organized at all.

Former Warsaw Pact countries are playing a role of neocolonies.

News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

Present EU is based on agreement between France and Germany with few perks for international businesses and maybe few more for governments to brag about.

It cannot survive in the present form. The EU should be rethought, reshaped and renegotiated. It cannot continue on neocolonialism formula for long.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

OK! Because non of you ignoramuspopulous mentioned an old system of Europe's divide onto Eastern and Western parts - I will do it.

Religion! Each country with prevalent Orthodoxes belongs to Eastern Europe, Catholicism and Protestantism are telling us that you are in Western European country.
Poland belongs to Western Europe according to that old formula.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

But Poland ain't part of Russia or is Russia's vassal state nor does Poland object Western political alliances such as EU or NATO. It's in it. Time to refresh your mind Ironside :=)

Doesn't matter! EE is a description of political reality now. Regardless of Poland being in EU or NATO, she is still between west and east because of the past but mostly because of her position as a cordon country, between EU and Russia.

Time to go out into the real world Grünewald.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

I also wonder how on EARTH can it be politically eastern?!

In politics and in perception, also Russia has its tentacles here as well.
For all practical issues Poland is politically Eastern Europe, if Beloruss or Ukraine become a border country/cordon between west and Russia then Poland cease to be EE.(or if Poland become regional power )

News / Polish Lithuanian Diplomatic War? At last. [534]

A Lithuanian nationalist was lecturing an Irish speaker that he wasn’t Irish cos he sometimes spoke English

Exactly, Americans can speak English and still be Americans, Swiss can speak German, Italian and French and it doesn't make them Spanish :)
Yet, one have to speak Lithuanian to be Lithuanian, what that says about their cultural identity, that there is no much more to built upon than the language, an artificial division.

What does it say about attempts to reduce Polish language in Polish Schools in Lithuania? In the light of above it means offensive move to by administrative means change children's national identity.

History / Polish historical myths - to break or not to break them? [257]

Do you want history to teach false things according to myths?

Myths do not equal lies.
Myths are an result of focusing on positive and good facts from a collective history.
They are to provide a model for people to follow or at least to cherish.
Grown ups and educated people do realize that it all wasn't that rosy and nit. Books about that should be available for anybody willing to buy them. It doesn't mean that all failing should be a part of history curriculum

If adults are taken by surprise its their own bloody fault.
Because of their history Poles are more defensive about their past, it is understandable as for years and years the only thing they could do to defend themselves and their identity, was creating myths.

While others can always say - well, whatever, who cares? - even though those luckier nation are generally relay on myths themselves, at least general public does.

I must add that recently what can be observed in Poland (Gross and others) is not about myth busting is about creating new myths to manipulate general public in Poland into a guilt syndrome.

To hell with them and their apostles!
