Life / I hate Warsaw. The worst part about living here is the people who move here from small towns, villages.. [124]

Religion should be inclusive of all people no matter what their gender or sexual preference.

Do explain why you advocates of "freedom of artistic expression" prefer to **** on Christianity but never on Judaism or Islam. Do you think Julita Wojcik would dare to put a "gas chamber of Love" in front of the synagogue in Warsaw or attach hairy balls to the nose of Mahomed and place her "art" in front of the mosque in Wilanow, all at the expense of Varsovians?

So, you don't like being stared at and you dine at Bar Mleczny and snap photos. May I suggest one of many sushi bars? There'll be people like you sitting there and you all can photograph each other at will and send the photos back to your villages.

Funny that you don't want to admit this was the only city you really felt safe in, unless you did feel safe in Cairo, London, and LA at night.

Here's what I don't like. Some cvnt from Gdansk came to my city and put up a huge metal rainbow at taxpayers cost in front of the church I was baptized in. This , of course, delights the homosexuals world wide. Luckly, someone torched it a few weeks ago. She is rebuilding it, although it was to be dismantled in January anyway. You've seen it. What did you think of it?

I had two good staring experiences so far. One was when I ran al a Cybulski to catch a bus at night. When I got on, a dozen people were not only staring at me but were also smirking. I selfconsciously wiped my face in case I had a big snot wrapped around my face or something. I didn't. I relaxed and stood there like bikiniarz with my hands in my pockets riding the bus wave. Then it came. On the next bus stop, the driver slammed the brakes so hard that I went flying and nearly broke my ribs. Someone else got on the bus, and I joined the others in staring and smirking while holding on tightly.

Another time I got on the tram and there were few people so we stared at each other out of boredom. Every single person had blue eyes. I was ready for a group hug.

Now I wish women under forty would stare at me.

History / "Westerner's" most ridiculous beliefs about the time of communism in Poland [73]

What about the times when there was no tape recorders. Was there any way of buying a vinyl?

In early seventies we recorded on reel to reel and I remember buying a Jethro Tull record at a outdoor market in Mariensztat, Old Town, Warsaw. Lots of music floated around. ( I later saw Tull at the Madison Square Garden, I think it was 1979).

Lots of movies were shown, westerns would actually be in the minority ;-)

Ask your parents about how they rushed to see all the Winetou films.

Classifieds / Let's play tennis in Warsaw! [13]

You've found the right pool . Now, next to it ( on the left)you will see a large building with a letter W on it- that's the remnants of Warszawianka Club. Left to it you will see a Portugese restaurant and the main court and four courts next to it.. Go down, down and you will see more courts where the office is and put your name up on the board to find players at you own level.. They have 29 courts.

From where you live, you can take 117 to Wilanów and short hike or change buses to Gold's Gym if you like. goldsgym.pl/en/

You can take the same bus to Metro Służew stop and there is a gym in Land shopping center.

Of course, this gym is right next to you: mokotow.galeria-fitness.pl

History / Battle of Vienna - history movie about Poland / Commemoration [36]

Surely they can do better than this?

Wajda is making a film about the paid snitch TW Bolek. That should please you.

I know what you would like though. I warm love story about Bloody Luna. It would be somewhat less patriotic but more to your liking. I've read you are interested in this period of our history now.

Life / Babcia or Busha - any social class difference? [359]

Grandmothers were called "Babusia", shortened to "Busia"

They are still called that sometimes. My two-year-old niece calls grandma mostly Babcia but I've heard Babusia, Babunia. Children play with language. Professional class in Warsaw.

News / Tragedy in Russia - shouldn`t Poland declare national mourning? [41]

But no. Our leaders are not able to make such gesture of friendship. Pity.

The only thing our present leaders are expected to achieve, in the name of new openness, reconciliation, and improved relations(sic), is for Gazprom to take over our energy industry or perhaps consolidating the Slavic brotherhood by declaring Poland a Russian Republic.

Oh, my. Can't wait till someone asks why Poles say woda or mleko when there is already the word water and milk.

Wish the rest of you a fruitful discussion without me.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

what does it mean?

Picky, picky.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean but in the late 90s short hair was a fashion while nowadays it's common among thugs...

Short hair is in fashion, although there are some clows who think filthy dreads are fashionable. I think Stosh would find Poles in Poland much more agreable but he should take a trip to see for himself.

I have seen Poles drinking and catcalling outside the Polish church in Paris, which they would never do in their home town in Poland. I walked away in digust, probably just like Stosh did for a slightly different reason.

News / Donald Tusk's Government of Poland Continues to Oppress Poles [161]

One thing that Poland should rightfully fear is for their freedom if PiS ever manage (unlikely) to put together a solid majority in the Sejm.

Is that why 60% of prisoners voted for Komorowski(PO) and only 14% for Kaczynski(PiS). Yeah, you make sense as usual. But I don't blame you, you've only been here a couple of years and you contact with Polish people, the press, and history books is very limited - enough to sound stupid to anyone familiar with the situation in this country.

It is hard to find someone more mainstream than you here. You are in the herd, it is safe and non-controversial there, you will not stand out. Congratulations, you are a wannabe conformist. They have something in common with you though. They want to be Europeans first(whatever that might mean), and Poles second; you used to be Scottish and now "I feel more European than Scottish." How does this remind us who remember the communists and their cosmopolitanism and internationalism.

There hasn't been so much power consolidated in one party (PO) since communist times. Sejm and the Senate, the PM and the President, total domination of public and private TV stations( every conservative program eliminated, every one), and you don't see anything wrong with that. Their party's program is to fight the opposition. That is it. Oh yeah, raising taxes, increasing drastically the administration positions( up 60,000 in the last two years, am I right), screwing the young, the old, and the working stiffs. Brilliant. They recently "negotiated" the Gas deal with Russia in which we have the most expensive gas in entire Europe and no alternative sources. Who are they bargaining for? Russia or Poland? They handed over the investigation of the worst air crash in our history to some third rate MAK in which they can't even get the original black boxes back one year after the crash. Have you ever seen a crash investigation where the pieced are just dumped onto the tarmac in the open air? Do you know what Russian dissidents say about the present Polish government? - Servants, bowing low. Hardly a compliment. The PM is on the ropes and even his own party is turning their heads away. He is pretty much finished. He sucks indeed, and frankly your never ending presence here does too, only because you know little but talk much.

Life / What is Poland's view on obesity? How healthy, fit are Poles? [166]

Once people in Poland will be able to afford going to a fast food joint daily there will be more overweight people it's bound to happen.

Fast food is for poor people; this has not happened in Poland yet as it is still a novelty and the choice is limited. You kebab eaters know what I mean.

I've heard that the French lack many obese people because both snacking in between meals and taking second helpings during meals are considered taboo.

In a basic French meal it is not taboo to get seconds; it is unnecessary, since the meal consits of a few courses. If still hungry, you always have a chance to stuff yourself with cheese at the end of the meal. Anyway, the French are some light years ahead of the rest of us Europeans in understanding what cooking and eating is all about.

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

ConstantineK, is this you?

Yevgeny Dzhugashvili, grandson of Josef Stalin, is to sue the Russian parliament for "defaming the honour" of his grandfather, after it passed a resolution blaming the dictator for the 1940 Katyn massacre.

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

I don't think anyone is in any doubt that if the chance arose for revenge, Poles would murder the Russian intelligensia without a second thought.

Revenge for what, my neo-communist buddy?

I don't know why anyone pretends otherwise - it was in Hitler and Stalin's best interest to wipe them out.

As a military tactic, it was fantastic.

Really? I wonder if you would agree with this good rabbi? Is that also a brilliant tactic?

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

Katyń massacres were not retaliation for anything. Stalin, just like Hitler at the same time, wanted to eliminate the Polish intelligensia. That's it. The Soviet NKVD, and the German Gestapo with the Eisatzgruppen, swapped lists of officers, teachers, clergy, public officials, policemen, etc., and proceeded to execute them in 1939 and 1940. Remember, the Russians and the Germans were partners then. Then, in 1941, the co-operation ended when then had a falling out.

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

More than 30000 Russians were tortured there by polish authorities.

This persistant troll or shill can't even get the communist lies straight.

How does one justify Katyń? Not easy, but one must try, so they invent "crimes." From your own link, troll:

The issue was finally settled in 2004, where a joint team of Polish and Russian historians (prof. Waldemar Rezmer and prof. Zbigniew Karpus from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and prof. Gennady Matveyev from Moscow State University), after reexamining documents from Polish and Russian archives published their results (printed in Russia by Federal Agency for Russian Archives). Their findings show that the number of Russian POWs can be estimated at between 80,000 and 85,000, and that the number of deaths in the camps can be estimated from 16,000 (Karpus, Rezmer) to 20,000 (Matveyev).

In communist times, not so long ago, you couldn't even discuss Katyń, but the communists provided a substitute: Chatyń. This you could talk about.

A memorial complex commemorating the victims of the annihilation of the entire village of Chatyn (Khatyn), northeast of Mensk, during the German occupation of Belarus. In March 1943, Chatyn's 26 houses with their inhabitants (149 people, including 75 children) were burned by a German battalion. The vast memorial, spreading over 50 hectares, was opened in 1969 and became a major visiting place for local and foreign tourists and delegations.

This kind of thing continues in some communist circles and thus you get threads like this. Commmunists in Russia still agrue that the Germans are responsible for Katyń. They will invent something else soon.

Its funny that nowadays every patriot gets called a nazi or a fascist... It's like you're not allowed to love your country

It is in the best Marxist tradition. These lost people are now Europeans but wait till Euro 2012 and they will be screeming for their former nation. Anti-fascists?! What a joke.
