Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Theyre like 6 of them that walk into the bar all dolled up in high heels and pass out drinks:)

Yeah, that happens to me a lot

Travel / Hard Candy - Krakow, Poland - reviews? [131]

So you are telling me that if two gorgeous women come up to me in the street and want to take me to a bar and get me to buy them cocktails - there is a fair chance I am getting ripped off ?????

Nah, refuse to believe it !!!!!

Now i know not go somewhere i where i get invited from the street

To be honest, a lot of street promotion is legit. Lets face it, half the bars in Krakow are hidden away in basements.
Get a bit of crack with the PRs, find out prices etc and you can have a good night.

Life / If I could introduce something from my country into Poland, I would.... [175]

I saw that Shinty was referred to on this thread. For those interested, there is an international match tomorow.
If you play the vid clip in the link you will also hear a variety of Highland accents, the one at 4.02 is a cracker ! Just to let you know that we all dont sound like Billy Connolly :-)

Shinty and accents

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

No missiles in Poland !

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8260230.stm - Obama backs off

The US will shelve its controversial plan to build a defence system in Poland and the Czech Republic after a review of the threat from Iran.

Looks like the US will be looking to Iran to win the Afghan war for them...............again.

Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

Allegedly, there are people that have fag rounds in the same way you get milk or paper rounds. Put your order in and every Friday you get a knock on the door and there is a man with your 200 fags. £30 a pop and everyone is happy.

( Disclaimer - There is no way I would condone this behaviour and I do not know of anyone who partakes in this behaviour )

Life / Things that annoy you in Poland. [114]

I had to read the opening post twice - I wasn't sure whether you meant these things happened in Poland or UK.
Very similar problems wherever you go.

Apart from maybe Japan with the trains.

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

I have been to Iraq

Why haven't you mentioned this before ?

Again a feeble attempt at mockery by attributing to me things which I have not claimed.

Thats the level the debate has dropped to. You are regurgitating 2003 rhetoric as truth - even when your own government - the guys you work for - have changed thier stance.

Yet you can claim all sorts of conspiracies,

I haven't claimed any conspiracies.
I used to post links from the Department of Defense but whats the point - I can understand the difficulty in going to war following one belief which then turns out to be false. For example, the twin towers and Iraq - again - its a Department of Defense link where Wolfowitz says Iraq had nothing to do with it.

simply leveraged Saddam to sell to us at a cut rate

Saddam wasn't playing and was in talks with ME oil exporters to start trading in roubles using an Iranian based Oil bourse. Thereby devaluing the dollar as a monetery peg.

If you want to talk oil the floors yours.
I was punting on Iraqi oil licences and drilling long before 2003.

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

All in all, it strongly looks like JohnP is the end product of establishment brainwashing, and a CIA agent. Of course he'll deny every word of it.

This is the truth -

Iraq bombed the twin towers.

US invaded Iraq and conquored the best Air Force, one of the best Navy and some of the mostly highly equipped troops in the world.

Iraq had nuclear warheads aimed at the rest of the world.

No civilians were killed.

Iraqis love us for it.

It was not about oil.

Al Quaeda are everywhere.

Everyone hates Amerikkkaaa.
My phone is bugged -
OMG there is a white van outside.....this is the truth I tell ya.......get off me ya commies.....I'm a winner........

Yet...you've yet to show that it wasn't associated.

Your government said it wasn't associated.

It doesn't pay to fight with a pig, you get all dirty and the pig likes it.

Slow down tiger ! I just asked you to clarify an obscure point you were making ( Exxon are better than Gazprom )
Whatever.....linking the twin towers to the invasion of Iraq is low.

then the spark occurred when over a short amount of time multiple primarily American civilian targets had been hit,

Still trying to associate Iraq with the twin towers - baaaad John.

Can you clarify the point you are trying to make here.

And just out of curiosity how much would you get for one

Couldn't say now as the trade is illegal, pearls come in all shapes and sizes, only a small amount are competely round. Scottish pearls are moe valuable due to their rarity.

They take 15 yrs to mature and can live for a century. Most have died out due to overfishing but in Europe it was mostly pollution and their dependance on migrating fish for regeneration ( apparently this was the cause in Silesia ).

Sometimes only 1 in 50 have pearls, once opened they die.

They might not be as impressive as a Golden Eagle but its good to see they are being protected.

So would you know the difference between a fresh water pearl and a salt water one?

Freshwater ones are harder than farmed saltwater ones. Its also said that they have more of a lustre.
Having said that, they come in all colours mostly white, brown and black.

I never even knew there was such a thing.

Highly valued for their pearls, they are nearly extinct in mainland Europe but are still around, mostly in Ireland and Scotland
jncc.gov.uk/ProtectedSites/SACselection/species.asp?FeatureIntCode=s1029
I used to go "fishing" for them before it became illegal to do so.
Now I have read a bit more about them and realise how near extinction they are - almost feel bad about it....... if it wasn't for the pearls ;-)

As for głuszce, is this what you mean?

Looks very much like a Capercaille - wonder if its the same thing ?

If anyone is near a river in Silesia keep a look out for freshwater mussels, they are supposed to be extinct in Poland so if you see any its worth letting people know about them.

Because it doesn't have the Euro !

Everywhere else that has the Euro seems to be a bit more expensive than it used to be, I suppose its only a matter of time........
