Life / I woke up in Poland's Hilton of Drunks after the Juvenalia party. Must I pay the 300zl fine? [49]

Same as Poles that came to my country, behave like primitive people

That reminds me of the British stag parties coming to Poland. Here in Warsaw we don't have them too much as a rule, do not know if they still infest Kraków.

Used to see one some years ago at Plac Zamkowy, pulling down their trousers on command. The local Law was not impressed and they were booked collectively :)

The German sheperds took a dim view of it all, especially when one of these louts tried to kick them :)

I find this loathsome, despiccable and moronic. You come here, behave as a classic moron, don't pay for public transport, park your car wherever you think it is OK...and you think that is normal.

I give you a hint...If that friend of yours would have been a normal human being, he would have parked and paid, he would have bought public transport tickets. But no he thought he was superior to all idiots who do that.

Travel / Best place to exchange money in Poland? [98]

Merged: What is the best option for tourists to change money in Poland

We will have several times guests from the home country to Poland this Summer, and always the same question pops up...What about money?
What is the best option - not to loose too much on commissions, exchange rates... - for tourists?
1. Using an ATM here in Warsaw with your foreign (EU) debit card, and does it make a difference if that tourist is EU or non-EU?

2. Taking Euros from home and exchange them here in a "kantor"...(obviously not in the airport, but in a reputable one)
3. If a "kantor"...which ones in Warsaw are the best? I know one near Hala Marymoncka which is not too bad...but are there other ones advisable?

4. Pay the majority expenses by their non-Polish but EU credit card
5. Use their debit card here in Poland

Obviously they won't be spending huge sums here for a few days. Still I'd hate to give any bank a present.

Law / Polish EU Drivers Licence - can I get one the easy way (by paying for it)? [185]

To be fair, you do get told a few times not to (and then get a ban).

I agree with you. But I have a point where this site promotes semi-legal immigration into the EU, even when everybody in Poland with a brain knows that these private "universities" make a living of these "students", the same as they do not mind the same "students" wanting to buy EU drivers licenses and asking for this outright.

It most of all shows the hypocrisy of the mods. If you complain about all the third-world "students" wanting to "study" at Polish "universities" you get a ban.

But you can easily and without any problem enquire about how to buy a Polish drivers licence, which is plainly criminal.

News / Parliament in Poland clears way for nuclear plant [78]

Poland have money

As always you have a prime understanding about Poland, not hindered by any real knowledge about this country...

I hope the reactors will be cold fusion,

Perhaps it should be a sarmatian project?

I hope the reactors will be cold fusion, Poland always can buy few nukes from Korea or Israel.

Perhaps you could share this information...where in the world cold-fission reactors are operating? In your warped Jedwabne mind that must be in Israel for sure.

Law / I have an Israeli Driving License. What do I have to do to get a Polish driving license? [19]

I want the driving license as an Identity Card

A driving license is not an ID card. You can want everything until hell freezes over, but it won't work.
Israel is not in the EU, meaning your driving license has zero value in the EU.
No EU country would accept a driving license as a substitute for an ID card. (would yours, by the way?)

News / Does Poland support the idea of Slavic unity? [142]

But, if we were to be precise- Germanics originates predominantly from the Serbs. Now, face that fact

You mean we all - non serb, non imaginary sarmatian, non balkan (Btw Bismarck had a wonderful idea about the balkans...build a wall around it and forget it)...We all have to start in this case to use mass rape as a political tool? Too bad NATO did not bomb you back into the Stone Age.

News / Surprising ranking of Polish supermarkets (Biedronka expensive?) Living expenses in Poland. [35]

Hmmm, we buy our fruit & veg at the market here in Wolumen. Fresher you don't get, and price wise...I would think they are maybe a bit more expensive as Lidl & Co...but these few zlotys...

There is an old guy there selling eggs with two yokes...at 1 PLN per piece 3x expensive as the eggs you can buy in Lidl...but the taste infinite much better. Real eggs.

Likewise for meat and bread. We have our local shops for that. Rest comes from Biedronka & co.

News / Surprising ranking of Polish supermarkets (Biedronka expensive?) Living expenses in Poland. [35]

Exactly. We - the people on this forum living and working in Poland that is - do not have time to drive around all the supermarkets. We (our family) just shop at the supermarket which is on the way back home from work I guess. If you would have to for each article go to a different shop.... If you would calculate the fuel cost...We mostly shop at Biedronka, Lidl, Carrefour and for special items in Alma.

P.S. Btw Pamela, why did you not ask me to elaborate me on this Polish-language article?

News / Surprising ranking of Polish supermarkets (Biedronka expensive?) Living expenses in Poland. [35]

Before Christmas, in addition to the gifts for our loved ones, money we spend is mostly on food. As every year, we decided to see where all of our food shopping will be the cheapest, and where the most expensive. As in previous editions of our rankings, we compared with one another the major Polish cities and metropolitan areas. As before, in our study we used the price comparison service engine Dlahandlu.pl.

On the basis of available items in the shopping cart we tried to create a set of food products examples that may be needed during the holidays.
In total, 24 different kinds of groceries. Although our shopping cart will not exhaustive of all holiday needs, it is already meaningful and allows to create reports.

This is how our presents the prices basket in all leading retailers in our country, depending on the city or urban agglomeration.
1) Auchan, 2) Kaufland, 3) Carrefour, 4) Real, 5) Intermarche, 6) Netto 7) Lidl, 8) E. Leclerc, 9) Polomarket, 10) Tesco, 11) Piotr i Paweł, 12) Aldi, 13) Stokrotka 14) Biedronka, 15) Alma, 16) Lewiatan, 17) Żabka, 18) Społem

biznes.onet

Interesting article in GW, concerning the shopping cost in Poland's supermarkets. I know from experience that Auchan is cheap...but I find it hard to believe Biedronka would be that so much more expensive...

Life / Best place to buy cigarettes in Warsaw? [23]

I remember that my smoking friends told me the Marlboros sold there were smoked much faster as the ones bought in the West...and that they had a bit of a strange taste..

I do not smoke so I can't judge that.
A bit off-topic but an English friend of mine once bought their a copy of Window. He thought it was English, but t turned out to be...Bulgarian :)

Law / Visa for Work in Poland [29]

Don,t worry they will not be looking to live next door to grandma..their eyes are turned towards the West.

Same happens here in Poland. They all come to "study" here at some private "university". Remarkably none of them is going to study at one of Poland's public universities.

These "universities" are not taken serious by any company in Poland. First thing you notice that once they get registered at one of these "universities", they ask about being able to work and live in other EU countries on the base of their Polish "student" visa.

Life / Best place to buy cigarettes in Warsaw? [23]

5zl per packet (so 50zl, a little over 10 quid a carton)

Surely not the known international brands. If yes, they will be very similar to the ones they sold once in the Stadion, and will vaguely resemble cigarettes :)

Work / How much Father Christmas earns in Poland [4]

Maybe for a change a lighter-hearted item (comes from Metro, picked it up on the way to work Friday - and yes Iron, I read it myself without the aid of my wife)

It is about how much Santas earn in Poland.
Santa stalking around in the shopping centres: From 20 PLN to 50 PLN per hour. 20 if you have a Santa costume and fake white beard. 50 if you have a convincing deep "ho, ho, ho" voice. So a 40-hour working week can you earn you up to 2000 PLN.

House visits, distributing presents: It depends how Santa looks like, the more authentic to the Lapland guy, the more you earn. A 30-minute home visit goes from 120-180 in Poznań, 100-250 in Warsaw, 30-270 in Kraków.

Santa attending company events: For a 60-minute "visit" it goes from 150 PLN (Zielona Góra) to 300 PLN (Warsaw) , Scope ranges from distributing presents to rewarding the best employees.

Santa in the possession of a real belly and beard on house visits: From 170 PLN for 1,5 hour. Goes to 250 PLN if Santa has musical gifts

English-speaking Santa: Hired by companies who have a lot of non-Polish speaking employees. 250-300 PLN for 0,5 hour

Santa on a house visit on a sleigh pulled by rendeers (could be hard in a city I think); 1300 PLN for 1,5 hour.

Maybe I picked the wrong job :)

Language / Should I learn Polish or she learn English? [83]

Between ourselves (me and my wife) it is basically what I call "Pinglish", a mix of English and Polish. With our daughters...in Polish.

And yes I may be joking...with our Labrador in Polish (because we got him from a schroniska in Paluchy), and with our cat in Flemish (because he came from Belgium). Somehow animals stick to their given language, strange....

And what about you?

And if somebody could teach our daughters to talk not only in ATM but also in Polish? Our Labrador does not beg for money after all :)

Language / Should I learn Polish or she learn English? [83]

I think you always should learn the language of your partner. Maybe not to "native speaker" level, but for sure enough to be able to converse with her/his relatives and friends. No need to achieve A2.

But if you live in the country of your partner, then B2 should be a must. After all, you can go to so many expat haunts as you like where Polish is not necessary...but for me it is common decency you speak the local lingo.

I know a few fellow Belgians who after having living in Warsaw for years can barely order a beer in Polish. They are pathetic. Our Labrador can order a beer in Polish.

News / Poland and Germany should unite, says Lech Walesa [113]

And the Serbs are one of the most disliked by Poles nationalities. Crow is a few cards short of a full pack.

He thinks everybody in Europe is part of this mystical entity called Sarmatia, ranging from the Scots to the Greeks. I doubt anybody likes the Serbs at all. Specialists at bombing innocent cities (Sarajevo), mass-raping women...And thanks God being bombed back into the Stone Age by NATO. Wasn't it Bismarck btw who told that we should build a wall around the Balkans and leave them to their own devices?
