The Basilica of Our Lady of Licheล„

I think the place is marvelous. I don't get the criticisms. It has taste, elegance, symbolism, and that element that any Cathedral/Basilica is meant to have: it inspires awe-it allows the worshipper to sense his smallness and the grandeur and beauty of God. I highly recommend it.

The post directly above shall be copied and blown up to a size that even a blind man could read it and posted all over our suburban-ish shack. ๐Ÿ˜„

They don't call me Mr. Sophistication for nothing๐Ÿ˜

At first glance, my sophisticated eye thought the photo was about a guy who has a red claw growing from his finger.

A play on words. A crude way of expressing amazement is to cry out the poetic inquisitively exclamatory phrase: No sh!t?! Here I'm playing on the physicist 's last name to crudely express amazement.

@Alien

Try it as a stand alone sometime. Bet you'd like it. I had an Australian Shiraz the other night by The Black Stump. Very nice.

While the 20th century produced some awful utilitarian architecture, there was a lot of great stuff too. Art Deco, for example, is gorgeous. Great balance and symmetry and elegant lines. Wonderful use of materials.

I've only tried Muscat once, and it was very very sweet also.

Dry bordeaux is nice.

You like shiraz? Probably my favorite grape.

So there's both usefulness

Not to mention the design allows for plenty of natural light. If anyone has ever spent time in an office, you'll know natural light is to die for in most office buildings.

Not sure I'd call this building beautiful or ugly.

I'm surprised it survived. Was the taste altered drastically? Have you ever tried a vacuum stopper instead if a cork to cork after opening? They work pretty good at preserving the taste.

You prefer sweet wines, Alien?

I opened a 2021 Pillastro from Puglia last night. A mildly dry wine soft tannins and berry notes. A smooth joyful wine.

I don't have any great idea and just find something quotidian.

Even the quotidian is interesting. ๐Ÿ™‚

Brothers in Arms: 1919

Torqi, do you know the year the two pictures in your post were taken?

You can sense their pride in their countenance and posture, even in their old age.

I'd say I'm an American with a heart slightly tinged with sympathetic Polishness.

Yes, in true American spirit, I stole Poznan's loveliest gem to bring home with me. ๐Ÿ˜„

today it remains a true gem and pride of the Republic of Poland

I flipping love that city.

If I wasn't lazy and "busy" with work right now, I'd include a oicture if the Obelisk at Cytadela where over 5,000 Soviet soldiers are buried.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

Those are relatively recent guys. I'm talking about the 70's and 80's: guys like Carl Lewis, Ronaldo Nehemiah, Edwin Moses.

Besides, let's not forget the recent Russian doping scandal; which is not to say Americans and everyone else aren't doping.

No such thing existed in the Soviet Union. Not in East Germany. Or in Cuba

Technically, correct; because there wasn't a developed professional system in those countries. Your guys were typically mid-20's. Our guys were mostly college athletes back then.

Back in the day when I was considering moving to Poznan and looking for possible employment, I came across Franklin Templeton Investments who had jobs that required the languages you speak.

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

Working women wanted to "have it all" but now resent "having to do it all".

There are more and more surveys showing that women are feeling betrayed by the feminist ethos. As they are lonely and desiring a family in their middle age after buying into the " you don't need a family to be fulfilled" slogan.

The obvious deleterious results of modernity's war against human nature is manifesting itself more and more.

A disgusting Polish trait..

I wouldn't call it disgusting, just not my taste. My son likes it, but he puts ketchup on tomatoes.

You should definitely go, guys.

Officially on my list.

During my first visit to Poland in 2001, I trekked up to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. In its cafeteria, I experienced the Polish peculiarity of putting ketchup on pizza--what is a pilgrimage without penance. :)

Neither do I, but it is now on my list of places to visit...or, in this case, pilgrimage.

jobs like electricians, plumbers or qualified builders - in a city like Gdaล„sk they are raking it in

Is Poland experiencing a shortage of workers in the trades? We have a significant shortage over here in America. They forecast it could become critical in a decade or two if they don't recruit new workers asap.

Since you are an active member of your parish, ask your priest what his thoughts are on your predicament since he knows you better than any of us.
