Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

. And of course 'spaghetti bolognese' drives Italians crazy

Not least because Italians do not use spaghetti for their ragu but liguine.

USA, Canada / Poles Living in the Chicago Area [343]

I suspect that it's at least partly because the Polish diaspora in the US has longer history

You are. right, but most of those Pole Ams are grandchldren of the immigrsnts.Like my kids.
They feel an affinity to their Polish history, but are not really Polish.
My parents were post WW2 immigrants to the UK.
The Polish government in exile was based in Kensington and Hammersmith and most Poles settled in a similar area, then moved out to Acton, Ealing, Harlesden,Willesden, Cricklewood and later the Harrow area.

There was a small Polish community in South London too, but I can't remember where.Balham maybe?
The Polish community in NW.London in the sixties was not huge, but big enough.
We had a small Polish deli in Harlesden that, even back then would deliver to our family house in Harrow Weald.
His name escapes me.
But there was also a huge importer, with a warehouse in Harlesden called Fregatta which could supply all your needs, cheaper and even in communist times.

Wow, they even have Malinowa Chmurka

The American Polish Delis are much better than anything we have in the UK.
Yeah, we can get good quality kielbasa, boczek, soups, tinned goods, kapusta, salads, beers, wodkas and good bread.
But cakes and sweet baked things are harder to find.
We do have quite a lot of good Polish restaurants too now, but I suspect that most of the American ones are better.

USA, Canada / Where can I meet Polish women in Chicago [85]

my grandma has been always slim

The only grandma I knew was overweight, the other one died in a soviet prison camp in Siberia.
My mum and all my aunts remained slim, despite cooking all those huge and filling Polish meals. :-)

Do they celebrate Oktoberfest in England?

I don't know about the rest of the country, but there is a big one in London every year, we went once and it was very good.

But I bet it's even better in Germany.

There are some very good German sausages but, in general, my preference is for Polish too.

Who has more sausages Germans or Polish?

I reckon it's probably a close run thing.

But I think Germans eat more sausages than Poles.

Where is BB when we need him?

what have they won in the last 50 years.

We both know, nothing.

But look at their world ranking, that should tell you something.
This is the best England squad for a long time.

For some reason I dont like both in Polish food

That is understandable, boczek is not to everyone's taste as it is very fatty and some kabanos can be very dry and make you thirsty.

But I grew up with them and love them both.

@Joker

The home made golobki look good!

I have never seen kiwi fruit paczki before either and don't fancy them.

The kabanosy and boczek look good though.

"Brit" lost all meaning by including any scum with a British passport

How is that any different from all the scum with American passports?
And please be honest here.... apart from the indigenous Indians, all Americans are immigrants.
In England it is rather different.
There are many people here who have been English long before they discovered and emigrated to your new British world.
Hey, it's not just the language that you inherited from the Brits....LOL!

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

You are forgiven LOL!!

I reckon they bought them locally........ from other blacks and muslims.....

My point was that Turks are not a problem in London.
They open Kebab shops, some excellent Turkish restaurant's and are good cab drivers.
My daughter went on holiday to Turkey three times and always had a welcoming and enjoyable experience.
Turks are not Pakistanis.

History / What do Poles think about Turks? [761]

I think Turks are a problem everywhere

Not in London.

Here the knives mainly come from blacks and muslims.

If you ask the average Brit where they are from they will invariably answer with a town or city.
Or if they come from a lesser known place will say "Close to" and then name a better known town or city.
Yanks are similar, but they have the advantage of well known and well defined states.
So they may answer like the Brits or say "Texas, USA".
Poles have one standard answer to this question, always delivered with a huge grin.... "I'm from Poland!".
I find this hilarious...... any views or comments out there?

Food / Best Polish vegetarian food and other general queries [21]

but adding bacon to it is a no-go for me

I feel nothing but sorrow for you.
Eating must be so painful.......
Said a complete carnivore......
Vegitarians and Vegans are free to eat boring food as they wish.
But please do not preach to the rest of us like radical muslims or born again christians.....

Polonia / POLES vs BULGARIANS [160]

@Jake Ryan

I have a Bulgarian and a Slowak that work for me.

They share a flat and when they talk to each other they speak in their own languages and just about get by.

The Slowak can speak to Poles in "Polish" but the Bulgarian can't.

Milka is crap too!

The best chocolate in the world is Swiss followed by French and then British.
German is OK and American is trash.

News / Israel furious as Poland signs law to limit property claims [200]

No comments on my link, anyone?

I will comment.
I think that it is disgusting to hand property back to the grandchildren of the people that owned those properties originally.
Too much time has passed and the current owners have more rights to that property than the owners over 70 years ago.
