Work / Choice of Poland's OFE ( Open Pension Funds ) [30]

ofenet.pl

Having said that, the contributions made by the State these days are minimal, so I'd go with PZU on the grounds that they are expanding heavily abroad and are a big domestic company.

Life / Egzamin prawo jazdy. Driving Test in Poland. Bribing the instructor? [17]

Indeed. It used to be an issue years and years ago from what I understand, but these days, the test centres are so strictly controlled that it would be impossible to bribe an instructor on the day. I wouldn't even consider it viable - everything is recorded, and even if someone managed to bribe the examiner through someone else in the test centre, if the anti corruption people viewed the tape and saw that your drive wasn't consistent with the test standards, you'd be in a hell of a lot of trouble.

Don't worry, the reality is that he sat in the corner of the Latin club watching girls.

History / Differences between Poland and Russia [43]

The republic of the United States uses the actions of Prussia, Austro-Hungary, and Russia as negative examples when educating her citizenry.

Does the United States also use the example of Polish expansionism as a case against imperialism?

Life / Conflicting views about life in Poland? [45]

They aren't excellent, unfortunately. They're fine for someone like me that drinks weak tea, but anyone who likes strong tea will be disappointed here.

Having said that, try and get even an average cup in Croatia...

History / Royal Family still in Poland? [79]

They certainly wouldn't have in the 1980s, being communist at the time

I'm surprised they didn't - could've been a great source of cash from gullible Polish-Americans willing to pay huge amounts to be given a title.

Life / Bribery and corruption 'fact of life' in Poland? [152]

Great government and great ruling party. Any takers?

Wow, a corruption case in a young democracy! And we're all shocked - why?

The fact that arrests have been made actually says how far Poland is coming along.

Law / Buying a custom/private Polish number/registration plate in Poland [20]

Ive got 2 UK private plates already none of them are registered on any cars.

It doesn't work like that in Poland. Private plates are registered solely to the car and cannot be transferred.

So - if you want private plates, expect to pay a minimum of 500zl a year just to maintain them.

Law / Buying a custom/private Polish number/registration plate in Poland [20]

It's not just about registering. You need to physically visit the office in person, you need to pay for insurance, you need to have the technical check done yearly, and you can't transfer the plates to a new car. You'll also only be allowed to register the car for 3 months at a time, unless you have a reason to stay in Poland.

Law / Buying a custom/private Polish number/registration plate in Poland [20]

I am a British citizen studying in London & Id like to purchase a custom plate here

It's not going to happen. You need to be legally resident in Poland to obtain such plates.

Even if you obtain the plates, you'll be obliged to insure the car in Poland and re-register it as required depending on your residency status.

Genealogy / Americans of Polish descent. How many of us are on Polish forums? [216]

I find it amusing rather than annoying. Most Europeans find it quite hilarious when someone proclaims themselves to be something-American while exhibiting a high level of ignorance.

And yes, it makes them less Polish if they don't even understand that Poland (until 1945) was very much a country of many different nationalities and is still home to a number of ethnic groups.

Law / Poland - Temporary Residence card - Karta pobytu - required documents [142]

As far as I know, there is no such thing

There is, but only for the family of EU citizens and the card itself is identical to the other ones handed out. Family members are exempt from requiring work permits - which is more or less an open door into the EU for those savvy enough to play the game.

I forgot to mention that my wife got a job and was about to sign the contract when the hiring company checked her karta pobytu which doesn't say much and assumed she couldn't work.

That's their fault for not having a clue. All they have to do is apply for a work permit, which is mostly a formality.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

I rest my case, even here people are rude. I don't know what I was thinking asking Polish rude crowd why are they rude. And no, it's not Germans or Russians, always Polish

Always Polish, eh?

Strange how every post of yours basically insults Poles, isn't it?

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

An interesting attempt at trolling, but trolling nonetheless.

My niece came from Poland last summer and on our first hike in Catskill Mountains, she could not understand why we say Hello to people on the trail. WTF, everybody says hello.

In Poland, it is absolutely normal to say hello on a trail. It's highly unlikely that a young Pole would be unaware of this.

Now tell us, why are you insulting Poles in such a way?

News / Polish final report on Smoleńsk aircrash [859]

It is clear from the evidence that the aircraft was destroyed by an explosion.

Would that be the evidence that they spectacularly failed to present to the Military commission investing the crash?

Oh yes, the same experts - remind us, what were their qualifications? One of them observed plane wings from the window, another threw paper planes as a child...

It is clear that Tusk and Komorowski have participated in a ghastly coverup.

Except it isn't clear at all, as witnessed by the utter lack of interest by anyone but PiS supporters in the claim.

Why would Tusk agree to the Polish government officials being transported to Smolensk on a Russian aircraft freshly refurbished for special tasks?

Perhaps you need to learn some facts rather than Gazeta Polska hysteria.

The Tupolev planes were the Polish VIP planes. They were adapted to NATO requirements, and had undergone a major overhaul not so long before. It's almost certain that NATO aviation experts would have examined the plane thoroughly upon return from the overhaul, not least because they would've wanted to know what the Russians were doing with military aviation upgrades.

Tusk looks very much like Wilde's Picture of Dorian Grey.

Not really. He looks like a man that knows that he's going to win the next election if Macierewicz doesn't shut up.

It is clear that there are a lot of evil people who belittle and strive to harm Poland using the internet as a vehicle of slander.

Paranoia. Which US state do you live in, and how many guns do you own?

It is clear that PO is in cahoots with the Russians.

I think PO couldn't care less about the issue these days.

If Poles do not sweep away this trash in the forthcoming elections, I will be shocked and surprised.

Your lot were saying the same before the 2011 elections. Fortunately, Poland voted for PO, and they will do so again.

Another Targowica cannot be allowed.

Strange that you would mention Targowica, as PiS actually committed several acts of treason, including asking a foreign government to interfere in Polish domestic affairs.

Does anyone know when the Military commission is due to release their report? It's certainly a very thorough investigation, as witnessed by the fact they at least bothered to listen to "experts" who turned out to be nothing such.

It is notable that PiS went almost straight back to the Smolensk rhetoric as soon as they lost in Warsaw - which reminded voters yet again of their real agenda and why their Parliamentary "Commission" (that only allows PiS members to join) is nothing but a complete joke.

Genealogy / Trying to locate my grandfathers birth certificate [12]

19 when the war ended means that he would've been 13 in 1939 - which seems strange that the Germans would've locked him up at that point.

It may very well be that he found himself in Nazi Germany, but not locked up.

If you're proud of it, you'll stop using incorrect Polish and start using correct Polish, right?

Law / Can a EU citizen participate in Referendum in Warsaw? [2]

Does that mean I can also participate in the referendum in Warsaw?

Yep, it comes under the rules for local elections.

Not that I want, I would abstain in any case, just to get the frequency down between the legally required limit.

The wise choice, given that the referendum was backed by PiS all along.

News / Poland and Germany should unite, says Lech Walesa [102]

they HAVE TO pay

No, they don't have to pay anything.

I am still waiting for payment for the livestock and produce they have stolen from my great grandparents. And to completely equel the score I guess I will have to kill one of them like they killed my great grandfather in Dachau.

Keep on waiting.
