Language / [Phrase of the Day]: English to Polish [37]

I think Wroclaw or another translator could still do it better (as there are many possible variations/nuances here, especially with the position or omission of the word "please"), but here it is:

Do you have the right time, please. [Normal English] – Przepraszam, czy wiesz, która godzina?

Could you tell me the time, please. [OK English] – Czy mógłbyś mi proszę powiedzieć, która jest teraz godzina [asked a male]?

What time is it, please – Która godzina? [OK English, slightly abrupt]

Feedback / forum new feature request ;) - ignore a member [26]

Besides, many times a member you may not like is quoted or referred in the reply and then you'd only see an excerpt of the quote or didn't get the whole message, which would lead to even more confusion ;).

Feedback / forum new feature request ;) - ignore a member [26]

It's a nice idea, but you're right about it being a very resourceful feature that would require moving the site to an upgraded server (with so few donations it won't be possible now for sure :|.

Besides, it seems not many users would actually use it. Sometimes even the most notorious member may write something that is actually important, interesting, or useful. Plus - if you don't know other points of view you won't know how to face them in the real life where it's not possible to block those you don't like ;).

Feedback / Forum rules wanted [14]

1. Make sure to post a topic in the appropriate section. This topic should have been posted in the FAQ and Feedback section.

2. The link to the rules is on over 7,500 pages of this site. Hopefully it's not difficult to find.

Language / REGON PODMIOTU [23]

Please don't spam by bumpint up the message.

I think REGON Podmiotu is an identity number assigned to each company registered in Poland. Something like EIN number in the US.

Feedback / "My Threads" - New Feature for Registered Members [7]

Yes, it seems now it makes more sense to call it "Checker" as it's possible to check both new messages, favourite topics, and your topics from there. All references to the old name were renamed ;).

Feedback / "My Threads" - New Feature for Registered Members [7]

After hours of testing we have developed a new feature for registered Members: it's called "My Threads." The link to this feature is available from the Checker menu. "My Threads" lists all threads a registered member participated in (eg. made at least one post) during the last 30 days. It will allow users to track their participation level when needed.

Cheers,

Feedback / Checker: "You have unread messages in your queue..." [17]

Because all new messages appear in REAL TIME. That's why it's best to use it every day, just like admin, moderators, and experienced members do :). That way you make sure not to miss any message.

If you want to watch some specific topics only, add them to your Favourite Topics (accessible from the Checker too).

Feedback / Rule 6 & Michal [11]

Rule 6 refers to those who copy-paste and post exactly the same message all over again. But if the posts are different, they technically stay within the rules (freedom of speech).

But yes, if the only goal of the post/s is to provide untrue or mocking information, it could be considered as breaking the rules.

In the next few days we'll make the whole forum for registered users only and we'll see how it goes.

Feedback / Polls suggestion [8]

With polls there's yet another serious problem - the poll creator would actually have to take his/her time to create a poll to make sure it is as objective as possible. In most cases, it would also require doing actual research. Would many members take their time to do that? (especially if some, for some reasons, cannot follow simple topic creation rules)...

For example, if there are presidential elections in Poland, in order to create a useful poll the poll creator would have to do research and list ALL possible scenarios/candidates.

Polls like:

Who should be the next president of Poland?

a) Kaczynski
b) Tusk
c) Other

would be too narrow-minded and subjective; thus, not very useful.

Feedback / Polls suggestion [8]

Thinking... There are two coins of that though. Forum performance versus the "added value". Polls script is heavy and require a lot of resources. Plus it seems the polls results may create yet another stereotype (if there are less than 3,000 votes, the polls results are not accurate), and we want to avoid that.

Feedback / Can we have signatures? [60]

what exactly is a forum signature?

A signature is a repetitive text, like a favorite quote or something (sometimes with a graphic) that appears under the post. So if a person posts 10 messages on one page, the reader can see 10 times the same text over again by each post.

It's a good idea to speak Polish if you want to moderate the English-Polish translation section ;). Currently in Chicago area, USA.

About smileys: they will not come back. Signatures will not be implemented either. I think it's only fair to explicitally say it (as I said it a few times before).

Your reply suggest you are still unhappy. But I'm afraid there's nothing I could do.

Hueg

With your prejudice against the admin/moderators I feel you will never be happy, no matter what. Even the slightest change or "fau-pax" from our part would make you post stories how bad it is or what could be done to make it (in theory) better.

My suggestion is - let it go and keep in mind that I or moderators care about the long-term success of the site even more than you do. And they are not personally against you or any other member.

Only then you'll be able to enjoy the forums and your friends fully.

Alas admin why do you have to be so stuborn about this?

Because from my professional experience participating and developing online forums it seems like the best solution in the long run. It's not to "show the power" (as you have suggested; because only fools would try to shoot themselves in the foot); it's for the overall long-term good quality of the forum.

Will prove I get bored in the evening's after work.

If you get bored with useful and informative posts, logically you should get bored with 10 repetative graphic smileys (or signatures) [even faster], too.

time to upgrade :)

At the end of the day users choose simplicity and usefulness over unnecessary noise and bellsNwhistles. Hueg, UkinPoland, yours todays, tomorrows, in a weeks, in a months posts here will just prove that. :)

agreed but you are the one who added videos. Smilies are hardly "whistle-bells_noises" they were very peacefull as i remember

"added videos"? - we added an embedded link to a video, not a video feature. Similar to Image Link.

Because adding more and more "whistle-bells-noise" features would make a forum site like this a "myspace-like site" (which we want to avoid).

Myspace and a forum site have no relevance to each other though

Agree.
