forum new feature request ;) - ignore a member

Hi, I think that it would be a great idea to make an option which allow us to ignore some registered members on this forum. Everyone could have own 'blacklist' with posters which s/he doesn't want to see anymore (I mean their posts/replies). I know it's not easy to implement (+performance issues)... but maybe some day? ;)

Does that mean they could not physically see anything that person wrote?

Might be a nice idea at the time, but it doesn't leave room for people to change and grow on each other. How can we ever work to overcome our differences if we are unable to see a change in the other person?

just a thought

Yes, with one exception - if someone will quote person which we added to our blacklist then we see quoted text (written by person who we have blocked).

but it doesn't leave room for people to change and grow on each other.

yes, but in my opinion some people will never change ... besides you can always remove a person from your's blacklist.

even if i disagreed with somebody or even if they said something offensive to me i would not blacklist anybody, whats the point, its admitting your weak and you can't deal with other peoples opinions whether or not they are right or wrong.

If people are going to say something about me good or bad i would prefer to see it.

true, but anyone that bad gets removed by Admin eventualy anyway

besides you can always remove a person from your's blacklist.

but you could miss a worthwhile comment made by that person.

wouldn't just be easier not to respond to that person? i know I've done that when someone has been trying to antagonise me

If people are going to say something about me good or bad i would prefer to see it.

me too

couldn't we just have a time out thread, where we can go and say tht person is annoying me and I don't wish to respond to them at the moment?

Well, I don't want to block anybody who disagree with me, but there is at least one person who offense Poles all the time and I'm sick with it. I would like to have an option which would allow me not to see posts of this person anymore.

I think we all know who you mean, I tend to ignore him, he tries to taunt people into an argument, when you don't respond he will then say something about you which is inaccurate, hoping you will respond to that. It annoys me more when I see forum members who make a valid contribution to the forum a majority of the time, get threatened with being deactivated because they have responded to him.

I think that is the best idea.....just ignore the person.....if nobody responds to their threads or posts, eventually the person is going to get bored and go away....just a thought.

I understand your annoyance at this one mate but really if i had a £1 for everytime somebody was being offensive about British people then i'd be a rich man, I even live in Britain!!!! I have people who come to my country to work, live, escape war etc etc and all they do is complain, but i have to get on with it and take it because there is nothing i can do about it until my government gives me the choice to vote on immigration policies.

Just take it in, mop it up and then move on, thats the best advice i can give. So what if somebody calls you 'a dumb polak' you know its not true so you laugh it of and forget it.

It's a nice idea, but you're right about it being a very resourceful feature that would require moving the site to an upgraded server (with so few donations it won't be possible now for sure :|.

Besides, it seems not many users would actually use it. Sometimes even the most notorious member may write something that is actually important, interesting, or useful. Plus - if you don't know other points of view you won't know how to face them in the real life where it's not possible to block those you don't like ;).

I agree. You are never going to agree with anybody all of the time and if you have personal black lists then you might as well start to discontinue this forum as it would become so artificial. Mind you, there are some people who write all the time so aggressively that I sometimes wonder why they are here and are not letting out their aggression in a boxing ring!

Well, it's true that you will never agree with every body on every thing that they say. I feel it's fairly easy to ignore a person who is annoying you, I can do this with ease because people don't rile me as much as they might think they do. Plus I've had words with a couple of people here but I wouldn't say I wish to black list them! If they think otherwise about me then so be it, I'm not going to lose sleep over it!

Registered user should have an option to go to somebody's profile and leave comments about that person. Like on ebay.

Maybe if you were so bad you would be booted off, however if you had a great rating maybe the gold star is in order.

Although one thing, this is a game of opinions, although somebody may completely dislike, disagree and generally not get on with a particular person it does not mean that somebody else's view is totally different, so to apply such rules or gifts whatever you want to call them would be impossible.

for example, if 20 black listed you yet another 30 liked you, then whats the decision, on one hand you've got 20 who want to see the back of you and another 30 who like swapping messages, just a thought :)

Personally, I think it's a non starter.......this is after all a forum and admin are pretty hot managing this forum effectively.

Why on earth would anyone want to set up such a system on a forum..I think it's a waste of time and feels like being back at infant school if it were to proceed :)

Just my view. Lets just post and enjoy the forum with each others views, surely that's what it is all about........

Besides, many times a member you may not like is quoted or referred in the reply and then you'd only see an excerpt of the quote or didn't get the whole message, which would lead to even more confusion ;).
