Gun control in Poland: should Polish people be allowed to own guns?

And there isn't some crazily high death toll.

So neither heat wave deaths in Europe nor gun violence deaths in the US are especially bad problems?

Agreed?

gun violence deaths in the US

It's a huge problem there.

And tawdrily frivolous to equate deliberate shootings with summer weather conditions.

Europeans generally do not want lax controls on firearms or widespread civilian ownership of lethal weapons.

Individuals however are free to make decisions about ventilation and heating/cooling.

I repeat.... more people die in heat waves in Europe than die of gun violence in the US... either both are problems or neither is an urgent problem that needs to be solved

free to make decisions about ventilation and heating/cooling.

Let them eat heat?

more people die in heat waves in Europe

There's a large population and this is a relatively new phenomenon caused by climate change.

Your gun problem is not new and is caused by inadequate constitutional law and governments who are afraid to solve the problem.

It is tawdry to equate the two very different things.

Let them eat heat?

Let people decide how they heat or cool their homes, providing this does not impact badly on the environment.

I don't equate them... more people are killed by heat in Europe than are killed by guns in the US (and most of the US gun deaths are suicides so death by someone else's gun is a concern but not a major one.

elatively new phenomenon caused by climate change.

Yeah.... I don't follow that religion.

killed by guns in the US

A stratospheric number that nobody in Europe wants.

Do not equate violent deaths caused by an inadequate legal system to people dying from weather.

Lower than the number of Europeans who die in heat waves in Europe.

Do not equate

Why not? Both are due to cultural preferences and legal systems.... (and European cultural preferences and legal systems kill more people than guns do in the US)

Lower than the number of Europeans who die in heat waves in Europe.

So what?

You aren't some inadequate teenage MAGA supporter. Stop trying to equate gun crime to weather conditions. It is unworthy of you.

Why not? Both

Weather is not a 'cultural' preference.

Nor is lax gun laws given the number of people there who favour tighter control on unnecessary firearms.

Weather is not a 'cultural' preference.

Adaptations to weather (specifically the choice to not adapt to heat waves) is a cultural preference... one that's deadly for many vulnerable Europeans.

Adaptations to weather

The heatwaves are a recent thing. There is no choice not to adapt to them; in fact this week we can see governments responding.

The choice to allow civilians to possess lethal weapons and the huge proliferation of gun crime that has resulted is however a matter of choice and poor governance over decades.

I have had my scatter gun hanging on the gun rack in my kitchen for over fifty years and it has never shot anyone yet.
No threat what so ever.
In fact he only time it has come off that gun rack is to be dusted and cleaned once a year.
The heatwaves are a recent thing.

That is a bunch of your Baloney, jon, with no truth.
In the peak of the summers when it gets hot tempers shorten and flare.
Have you ever seen a riot in a snow storm ?

Even to save 10s of thousands of lives?

Heat-related deaths are increasing in the US too, despite air conditioning.

I get that you need air-con in the southern states because it's not just that it's hot, it's also very humid. Much of Europe isn't like that and although heatwaves are increasing, people aren't just going to install it because of a couple of weeks here and there of extreme temperatures. Plus it would cost a fortune to run. I think it's just the norm in the US even in states where it isn't that hot. I doubt anyone gets to acclimatise to the heat either if homes are air conditioned.

Personally, I don't like it. Gives me a sore throat. I really don't mind the heat though.

Chicago is experiencing the same temperatures this week as Warsaw is.
Next week will be even hotter.
The Northern States have been just as hot as the Southern States lately.
I think it's just the norm in the US even in states where it isn't that hot.

Almost every home, store, car and restaurant in the U.S. has A/C.
It sure makes it nice to cool your bedroom down so you can sleep at night.
Personally, I don't like it.

Nor do I as it gives me a dull sinus headache. (Mini brain freeze)
It is imperative to keep the filters cleaned in them as they collect bacteria and mold spores.
The best two drinks to quench your thirst are milk and coconut water.
Alcohol and caffeine drinks dehydrate you raising your body temperature.
Meanwhile to get back on topic
At this point and time Poland may not need to have guns available for law abiding citizens.
The day is coming soon that they will though, in my opinion.

At this point and time Poland may not need to have guns available for law abiding citizens.

If cops need them, so do citizens.

In fact, even more so since attacking a cop is suicidal...At least in a civilized country like the US.

Civilians are easy prey...and "protection" is long minutes away ... if at all...

Police need handcuffs, a helmet, a radio and a pie in their pockets. Citizens don't

Europe doesn't want lax weapons control.

Personally, I don't like it. Gives me a sore throat. I really don't mind the heat though.

The same. Makes the air dry. Better to close curtains and open windows that are in full sun and stay hydrated.

Hard to sleep with the noise too.

I don't like hotels where you can't open the windows. You can catch a cold from the air conditioning.

Europe loves lax borders and thousands of Mosques...1500 in London alone...

The same. It's only ever a few centimetres and then a sort of chain.

You can catch a cold from the air conditioning.

It's unhealthy.

Heat-related deaths are increasing in the US too, despite air conditioning

They can always fire guns at the sun.

That's a no brainer, YES!

Do you want to defend yourself, your family, and hard earned property or not? Do you really believe the government is faster at saving your life than you? Have ever been robbed gunpoint?

Totalitarian government always outlaw gun ownership so that the citizens can no longer defend themselves against a tyrannical government. Once the population is dearmed, the government has no problem doing whatever it likes to you. Case in point, Australia. Guns became illegal and the government floods Australia with people from violent countries. Crime rate skyrockets. Violent crime rate sky rockets.

There is massive 24/7 propaganda campaign to brainwash the masses into believing gun ownership means more crime. Guns don't kill people. Criminals do. And criminals don't abide by the law. They don't care about gun laws. So the bad guys have guns and you don't. Real smart. And if they can't find a gun, they will use a knife. If they cant find a knife, they will use their bare hands to beat and choke you death. If they dont kill you or your family, they will maim and scar you or your family.

Wake up people. This shouldn't be a question anymore. Everyone has every moral right and obligation to defend himself and his family.

Do you want to defend yourself, your family, and hard earned property or not?

Why would anyone need to do that? Have you ever had to do this in Poland?

There is massive 24/7 propaganda campaign to brainwash the masses into believing

You mean millions spent in lobbying and propaganda in your country by companies who make, sell and otherwise 'earn' your money from guns.

Have ever been robbed gunpoint?

No. Have you? Which city in Poland was it?

@jon357
Why would anyone defend their family and property? Okay, have fun dying? Have fun continuing to be raped by your government and criminals with some fake gay lame statistics about some imaginary powerful gun lobby... please. The most powerful lobby is the one anally raping you right now with their globalist nwo. You want to talk about money. You know how much money the governments are giving your money to backwards 3rd world "refugees" to rape your mom, sisters, and daughters? Marxist propaganda and bullshit laws. Get a clue. Grow some. Drink a beer? Grow some hair on your chest? Maybe start with pushups?

In Poland? No, because it's still mostly Polish, but that will continue to change with leftist like you. You can bet for certain that with the new generation of leftist brainwashed youth, they will vote to become like Germany and Sweden and reject their Polish nationalism. Give it about 10 years. You will continue with your naive beliefs that everything is safe until you're looking down the wrong side of barrel. I would know, ive been there and come from multicultural America.

A man without a means to defend himself is just a walking duck. Easy prey.

. I would know, ive been there and come from multicultural America.

And that is why you bring American perception on guns. Different countries means different culture and different perception of things. Poles have the right to choose what kind of laws they want in place

@Lenka
It's not just American perception, it's common sense. Don't you know what happened to Polish civilians during the 40s?

Why stop at guns? Why not outlaw bow and arrows and knives as well? Ban pepper spray, bats, hammers, stun guns, etc.

What is the fear of allowing Polish citizens to legally own guns?
jon357  73 | 24520

Why would anyone defend their family and property

Why would anyone need to? Warsaw isn't Mogadishu.

What do you think happens in Poland that someone would need firearms to protect their family?

Marxist propaganda

There are relatively few Marxists and Marxians in Poland.

Polish nationalism

Why would anyone want to be 'nationalistic'? And how does that relate to the very strict gun control that we like in Poland.
Lenka  6 | 3500

What is the fear of allowing Polish citizens to legally own guns?

The fear is:
1- more guns means more access to guns also for criminals
2- people are often irrational and overreact. If they go for a fist fight or even knife it's usually less dangerous for those involved AND general public
3- wide guns access doesn't seem to make places safer
4- most people wouldn't be able to protect themselves with properly stored guns

Given how short people's tempers are here, and how prevalent the act of drinking alcohol from the crack of dawn is, I think it would be a really, really bad idea for firearms to become more prevalent here. Some guy shoots up Zabka because he's been waiting 20mins behind 10 people buying hotdogs and he needs another morning beer urgently. Nah, recipe for disaster.
