Life / Driving test, English speaking driving school in Warsaw? [95]

What if you have driven for a long time? I have close to 30 years driving experience. I really don't see the need to have the practical experience. Is there a place where I can just go test and get a license?

Work / I got a job in Krakow for 3500 zl Brutto...is it ok ? [33]

IT is a field that has much growth potential. The big thing is getting your foot in the door. Keep in mind that Krakow is very very expensive. You will live OK but not like a king. Someone can probably tell you the cost of an apartment there. I know many people that live on 1400 netto. So 2500 netto should not be a bad life.

Food / Does beer have any "real" expire date? [39]

The hops in the beer end up degrading. Since the style of a Weiss is usually under hopped it will probably taste ok. More hops would have meant more change in flavor. Less hops would mean less change of flavor. However, hops are a preservative, so, who knows!

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

I am 90%+ Polish by blood and 3 and 4th generation born in the US. I met a man from the Ukraine where I worked before. He could tell I was Polish.

Work / International House - Kracow school - any chances of being offered a job there [59]

I took my CELTA at IH Wroclaw 2 years ago.

I enjoyed it very much. It was hard but not impossible. I didn't always like the instructors but I chalk that up to them using British methods.

I am glad I took it. It would have been hard to teach without it. You will learn much.

Love / My husband is Polish and I was wondering why he drinks all the time. [66]

Maybe he is an alcoholic. However, he has to decide that he is.

I saw many people drink in Poland but it was rare that anyone was falling down drunk. I understand that Poland is now near the bottom of consumption in Europe compared to where they used to be.

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

I don't know about him hating Jews when he was younger. I read a bio and it said that he had some Jewish friends when he was younger. Also, when he was living off of his art skills the paintings were sold by Jews.

Law / The 'Secret' of Poland's Economic Success [83]

I think the main reason is Poland does not have easy credit and financing. In the US and many other western countries they gave credit to people who should not have received it. It was a system that worked as long as there was growth. Plus like the above poster stated other countries have gotten away from manufacturing. We have the worst economy in the US where I live. I have not been able to find work since I have returned from Poland.

Work / Teaching English in Krakow -- how to find students? [52]

I think CELTA is the way to go. DELTA is aimed at people that want to be school directors. I think you have to have CELTA and a few years teaching experience before you can take DELTA. I took it at IH-Wrocław and recommend it.
