Life / How do Polish people see homosexuality? [152]

Maybe because the fact if someone is gay or not has nothing to do with your "business"

Unless you're running a heterosexual dating agency i dont see the problem.

If you own a bicycle repair shop, or whatever other kind of business, its not like a gay guy is gonna whip his dick out and slap some other dude in the face with it for fun.

Get with the times, show some acceptance and get your head out of your arse. That would be my advice.

Law / Car registration in Poland (bought a car from Holland on a temporary license) [25]

@Lyzko
What do you mean we get a better deal? If you mean the tax refund - its just a partial refund of the 20-25% "eco tax" we pay on top of the normal price of a new car unfortunately.... and the only good deal is for the foreignera taking the cars away :p

@above here: belgium mainly has great prices on the smaller-engined cars as theyre lighter taxed there. Plus they have, like NL, a great mileage registration system (car-pass its called). Quite safe to buy a car with car pass, trusting it has the right mileage :)

I am aware Lyzko, that was exactly what i was pointing out!

The company that does the work for you though, tend to at least try to communicate with you one way or another, since you are paying them for their services.

That's why i suggested him to use this kind of service. In my opinion its either not getting your car registered, or paying 350zl for a company to do it for you. Easy choice!

p.s. if you're looking in NL, remember that cars post-october 2006 that show a lower export price than normal selling price, you will need to leave a Deposit (usually somewhere between 500 and 1500 euro) which you will get back after you've registered the car in Poland and sent a scan or copy of the papers to the company you bought the car from. It has nothing to do with scamming, but with Tax-return purposes in Netherlands.

The export price can only be given if the car will be registered in another EU country, and a copy of the new registration is send in to the dutch Tax office. Hence this deposit companies ask for.

Law / Car registration in Poland (bought a car from Holland on a temporary license) [25]

I have imported multiple vehicles from Netherlands to Poland (im from Netherlands).

Taxation is as you say, i believe 2.2% under 2liter and 18.8% over that (might be off by 0.something% as i think they change every now and then)

For me it went okay with the value on the sales contract most of the times, and once they did not agree on the value (even though i never messed with the contracts, but it was lower as the car had slight rear damage).

Anyways, since the car was a hybrid with very low emission/engine size the difference in taxation they wanted was less than 200zl, not worth the bother to fight it.

Then there's about 260zl of costs to get your license plates and stuff.

I've all but 1 time, used a company that did all the work for me. In total it cost me 350zl for the company and about 150zl for getting the necessary documents officially translated.

I highly recommend using one of these companies unless you want to go super-cheap about it, but as you're not Polish im gonna guess your Polish is not good enough to get through the official instances. They do not speak English, nor are they in my experience lenient towards helping you in English in any way.

The one time i didnt use the company but a Polish speaking friend, it took much, much more time and hassle.

Off-Topic / Help for Stalker - threats from an ex-boyfriend [19]

You could grow up and ignore the dude. He'll get bored with no responses

Way smarter would be to just let the girl go. She's willing to let you go for it, so why would you bother?

Work / Native English speaker looking to teach English in the Opole area of Poland. [29]

Seems like a lot of good info there, but holy s%$t does the lack of punctuation make it hard to get through.

For someone that teaches English thats quite disturbing.

But if the money is 3k ish, wouldnt you really be much better off in some international company?

Your heart must really be in teaching, or a very remote location.

Classifieds / Flat for sell, near Alchemia/OBC GdaƄsk 5.5-6 yield [10]

Sounds great, but i bought a 95m2 appartment for 500.000zl not far away from there about half a year back. 12700zl/m2 is very high - Very doubtful you'll ever sell it for that, let alone without any pictures and this kind of advertisement

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

@Dougpol1
You simply ignore the fact that i've quoted the to the law that you think existed, but does not exist.

So again, its shop goodwill, not a RIGHT. However you form it for yourself, you are NOT in your right to return it in a week. Dont like it? Simply dont buy there, but buy online for example. There you always have 14 days, and if we all work this way, shops with bad service will cease to exist.

Work / What Jobs are there in Poland for an Englishman besides teaching english? [70]

@delphiandomine
You think its an insult, but in reality i wish that was the case!

No no, im the "have a great job back home but lets move to Poland to live together with some pretty blonde"-type. Much more stupid indeed.

My Polish is actually not bad. I wasnt discussing my personal Polish, but the experience i had with it.

A salary as suggested in your post i've luckily never had to settle for. I cannot imagine surviving on that.

Real "Poles" are also a lot friendlier than this Forum suggests. I'll be back there very regularly and surely wont sell my house! Who knows i might move back there some day.

And so do middle tier, and upper tier jobs in international corporations that are simply here for the low wages, but dont actually do anything in Polish. But if you've never been there, its probably hard to understand.

If you werent such a bigot i'd invite you over for a company visit some day so you could see for yourself, unfortunately you are and i no longer work in Poland

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

@Dougpol1
Good luck with that, because made-up-by-you EU laws arent gonna get you anywhere.

Cooling period ONLY counts for Online purchases, not for purchases made in a shop. And its 14 days - if we want to be correct about it.

You can find EU regulations about it here:
"If you buy goods in a shop, you have no EU legal right to return the goods (for exchange or refund) unless the item is faulty. However, many shops voluntarily allow customers to return or exchange goods during a certain time period. Make sure you check the returns policy of the shop where you made your purchase."

europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/index_en.htm

It doesnt matter on what forum you come and in what EU country, there's always people fighting for their non existent rights. Makes you look like an idiot tho

Work / What Jobs are there in Poland for an Englishman besides teaching english? [70]

The endless discussion.....

In my 2 years of working in Poland, speaking Polish has literally been useful for me 0 times.
Sure, ONLY speaking English is somewhat of a handicap on the jobmarket because many Polish people do too, but speaking any other European language besides English and Polish is way more lucrative than many university degree in Poland.

Mind you, i can imagine if you want to work as an English teacher for Polish people, speaking their language might make it easier to explain things. But seeing as this is a topic about NOT being a teacher, speaking Polish is in the professional area very useless in my opinion. In your private life, sure, it might be helpful. But its not like you're not gonna be able to get around without it.

Law / Where to get certificate of family composition (gezinssamenstelling attest) in Poland? [2]

What you need is a document stating who lived on your address. A quick round of google shows me that there is a very good chance you have to get it not from the Polish city council, but for some reason from the Belgian embassy in Poland.

Sounds a bit strange to me, but then again i've had more strangeness in Poland and we're practically neighbours (Nederland)

Actually, check document E401 mpips.gov.pl/gfx/mpips/userfiles/File/mps/koordynacja/E401.pdf from Polish gov.

On subscript 12 it states you get the proof of composition of your family from the Polish city council....

Law / Buying work visa for Poland [16]

Top tip nr1:

never ever buy a visa unless you enjoy being scammed.

You get a visa by having a job there. Hence your employer will arrange it for you.

No employer=no visa=buy a visa=wave goodbye to your money.

USA, Canada / Car Export from USA / Canada to Poland [30]

Yes, the tax is based on the value of the car, but.... For 2.0 and below its 2.2%, for 2.0 and above its 18.8% of the cars value.

And that is AFTER you pay the tax for importing a car from outside the EU. Im not aware of how high that tax is, but i can assure you its going to be a lot

USA, Canada / Car Export from USA / Canada to Poland [30]

First you have an import tax for importing from outside of EU, and then around 19% (when i did it last year it was 18.8%) of the car's value on registration tax/fee. In short, i think you'll be (much) better of buying yourself one of those here.

Not sure if you are moving from one country to the other, and already have your car for over a year? Then it might be imported as "moving goods" which is a waiver for many taxes.

Real Estate / Renting out my appartment in Poland - how to do it properly [12]

@Lyzko any other completely unrelated questions you want answered?

If you enjoy being a pain so much may i recommend you go talk to all Polish people living abroad speaking nothing but Polish.

(And yes. We both do. Been living here for years. International companies coming to your country are great for your economy and employment rates so i'd tone it down a bit. But if you're that pro-Polish please recommend me a Polish IT professional capable of speaking English, Dutch and German fluently and i'll gladly recommend him)

@Lyzko
Przepraszam, i hadnt seen your PM before. I mightve read your reply a lot more hostile than you meant it.

My apologies

Real Estate / Renting out my appartment in Poland - how to do it properly [12]

My renter is a fellow Dutchman who i've known for years, and works in the same company as me. As far as payment goes, im really not concerned.

With future renters this might ofcourse change so your advice is definitely not blown in the wind.

He will move in with his wife, but including in the rental agreement that no subletting or something like that is allowed is a very good point. Taken and will be used!

In this case the electricity bill will indeed stay on my name, had never considered that sort of "intervention" but it makes sense.

Real Estate / Renting out my appartment in Poland - how to do it properly [12]

Thanks, useful stuff guys! Checked the land tax thing with the building owner/company we also pay the Czynsz to, and its already included so that should be fine.

So i'll take care of the meldunek in the contract and pay my taxes and i should be good. The "not paying" option i am not worried about with this specific renter but i will definitely keep it in mind for when he will ever move out and i'll have to get a renter i dont personally know.

Real Estate / Renting out my appartment in Poland - how to do it properly [12]

Hi all,

not long ago i bought an appartment in Poland, Tricity area.

As faith would have it, shortly after my employer gave me a possibility on a job change i couldnt resist, which includes leaving Poland.

Now im planning to rent out my appartment, but how to do it so its all legal/arranged properly?

I already have a renter for it, so that part is covered. Im still in good contact with the landlady from my previous rental appartment and she has provided me with a great "default" rental contract (the same i had with her).

But should i "register" somewhere that i will rent it out? Is there anything else i am overlooking?

Real Estate / Law and tenancy contracts in Poland [31]

No, there is not. If you signed for a term, you are stuck to it for that term. Thats what a contract is for.

If there IS a notice-period, that is stated in the contract. If there isnt, you are bound to the owners good-will.

Law / Polish girl does abortion in the UK, is it a crime in Poland? [8]

I dont think you'd be in any kind of real trouble. Apart from the fact you are married to a man that might press charges to his wife, i'd call that a problem.

The only thing that should be pressing here is a divorce
