News / Turkey abolished visas for Poles. [80]

What you don't get? I am showing with this map, that not all EU countries had visa free travel to Turkey. Poland is marked blue (with Visa) on this map, because they haven't updated it yet.

Work / Average salary to live&work in Wrocław? Local Credit Suisse opinions. [33]

It seems quite a good salary for a Junior. But you could read these reports:
glassdoor.com/Salary/Credit-Suisse-Wroclaw-Salaries-EI_IE3141.0,13_IL.14,21_IM1102.htm

hays.pl/cs/groups/hays_common/documents/digitalasset/hays_465124.pdf ( from 2011 so add 10%)
qbusiness.pl/uploads/Raporty/jllbpo2013.pdf
gazetapraca.pl/gazetapraca/0,74897.html

@inWrocław: Most likely they needed somebody speaking perfect Spanish.

Work / Business for Foreigners - possible to make a small project in Poland? [18]

Yes that's an issue too. You would have to create limited liability company in order to get permit to stay here and conduct business. The problem with it is that it's 50000 PLN frozen money and it requires accountant (perhaps just accountant service, not a full time worker) to run. Cheaper forms business are unavailable to foreigners.

In fact, I want to work in the optical fiber field (test equipment), so we can provide test equipment to subcontractors and vendors with lower cost.

Maybe you know better but you can charge more for services in richer western countries. But of course more important is weather there is demand.

Life / Gas / Benzyna prices in Poland [29]

No they haven't gone so much down because PLN went down to USD and because benzine in Poland has (much higher than in USA) fixed tax - independent from oil market prices.

Work / Business for Foreigners - possible to make a small project in Poland? [18]

But you don't tell what you want to do in Poland. Poland is perhaps not as cheap as you think. 85 000 will buy you 60m^2 flat in Warsaw. Or let you employ 1 engineer for 5 years in 2nd tier city. On the other hand if you have an idea for a simple, labor intensive, but cheap production in order to export for example to Germany, then it can be an ideal country 85 000 eur will let you hire worker with minimum salary for 14 years. (not taking into account salary increase, inflation and exchange rate fluctuation).

But who tells you I am a Muslim and as I said I am not planing to live in Arabic or Islamic country

I thought that over 90% of Egyptians are Muslims. But if you don't want to deal with other Muslims then perhaps consider cheaper southern European countries, like Portugal. Your skin color will stick out less there.

Work / Business for Foreigners - possible to make a small project in Poland? [18]

You will be a stranger in Poland. You don't speak Polish and probably have darker skin color. Poland is homogeneous country, not everybody speaks English there. You did not write what you would like to do there? If you want to feel comfortable then go to multicultural country or a Muslim one. For example Turkey.

News / Turkey abolished visas for Poles. [80]

Turkey has just abolished visas for Poles and in this way 20USD can be saved when going for vacation. Poland moves from 14th to 13th place in Visa Restrictions Index.

henleyglobal.com/files/download/hvri/HP%20Visa%20Restrictions%20Index%20141101.pdf

- I have just made a decision to abolish the visa requirement for Poles, Polish patriots who want to frequently visit the country, where he died the great bard Adam Mickiewicz. Each contemporary resident Lechistan can no fortifications and impediments to visit Istanbul - Prime Minister Davutoglu said at the ceremony crowning the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the establishment of the Polish-Turkish diplomatic relations.

Work / Is it hard to get a work permit in Poland? [43]

Call people there and ask:
Perhaps you qualify as one of: Right_to_work_for_students.html
Then you don't need permit as long as you're student.

Work / Is it hard to get a work permit in Poland? [43]

You should suggest to the company to write in requirements for the position, knowledge of your local language. That basically guarantees that nobody will be found for this job.

Work / Job consideration in Warsaw - what would be my expenses in case I move here? [11]

@Karma: Quoted by you costs of living in Warsaw are correct, but if you live frugally as average Pole does. I mean always choosing the cheapest shops, restaurants, pubs etc. People here are used to do that because of necessity, but westerners writing in this forum don't think it's something normal ;)

Love / Learning a language solely for your partner [21]

Not necessarily !

Of course nothing is sure, but without a risk nothing would be done :)

Okay that sounds really daunting but I really want to learn it. How long did it take you to become conversationally fluent?

I've linked it once: effectivelanguagelearning.com/language-guide/language-difficulty

The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) has created a list to show the approximate time you need to learn a specific language as an English speaker. After this particular study time you will reach "Speaking 3: General Professional Proficiency in Speaking (S3)" and "Reading 3: General Professional Proficiency in Reading (R3)"
Polish: Category IV: 44 weeks (1100 hours)
Languages with significant linguistic and/or cultural differences from English

And here explanation of FSI S3 level. It's compared to C1 in European grading. So very high level, as A1 is minimum and C2 maximum level.

govtilr.org/skills/ILRscale2.htm#3

What is your native language and what other languages do you know and to which level? How old are you?

Yes, that's important. It's proven than younger people learn faster, so if by chance you are 3 years old, then I bet you will master Polish in 3 years ;)

Love / What do Polish guys think of Asian girls? [50]

They observe you like an alien. They've heard that Japanese exist, but never seen one alive. Except if you're in the capital. There I've seen quite many tourists from Japan, so people shouldn't be so interested.

Love / Learning a language solely for your partner [21]

Is it really that difficult? Could one reach basic conversational fluency in a year if they really made an effort?

No. It all depends on motivation. If you're really motivated then you can learn basics in 1 or 2 months. Check this thread of a British girl who wanted to learn the language of her boyfriend (Greek) in 1 month:

how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=29835&PN=71&TPN=1

And as some write that you need years to become proficient. There is no problem with that, as your partner is going to be with you for years.

To be successful it's good if the partner speaks to you a lot in Polish and is patient to explain words. That and motivation followed by regular learning is the most important IMHO.

And it's not just a nice gesture.

As for Polish considered difficult. It's not the most difficult language and the biggest difficulty are cases. To speak with mistakes, but being understood you don't have to master that. Without cases Polish is not more difficult to start speaking than any other language.

I would add that there are Polish language preparatory courses in Poland which last 1 year, after which you should be able to study in Poland. So I would say they achieve little better than basic proficiency. Although it's a full time commitment apparently tens if not hundreds of people finish them every year with success.

Study / What is the best medical school in Poland? [33]

Free medical programs in Polish schools are highly competitive. If she could get accepted, then probably she could also study with scholarship in USA. On the other hand programs in English are much easier to get into. It's because the number of applicants is limited to foreigners who can afford tuition. I agree with DominicB that it's too late for teaching her Polish. You should have thought about it when she was still small.

If you want to cut costs, then I've heard that the cheapest medical studies in English are in Romania

University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca, Targu Mures, Iasi, Timisoara, Constanta, Bucharest, Arad, Oradea, Sibiu, Craiova, etc. in Romania.
Medecine, Dentistry and Pharmacy: English and French programs.
Tuition fees: 3200 to 5000/year, admission without exam!

Work / Suggestions for starting a business in Poland ( I have 50/60,000 USD ) [59]

European Union is, if not cheaper then the korean sources, at least in the same level.

But borrowing money by Polish companies from abroad increases amount of foreign debt. External debt contrary to internal is bad for the country. It increases risk caused by currencies fluctuations, government in bad times cannot just print more money to increase inflation and make it easier to pay debt back. Also foreign debts means paying back interest abroad, while in case of internal debt interests stay in the country and work in economy.

Work / Job consideration in Warsaw - what would be my expenses in case I move here? [11]

Consumer Prices Including Rent in Delhi are 44.34% lower than in Warsaw, so if you earn 3000PLN in India, then in Warsaw your salary will be this much less worth. Is it worth to come from warm India into cold Warsaw and work for nearly half? I don't think so.

I think that Uruguay is not growing slower than Poland. As for similarity of South Korean's economic growth with Polish then you are wrong. They are very different so you cannot predict success of Poland, because of Korea. South Korea grew because of: high domestic savings which allowed high investment and because of export growth of huge national corporations. Poland doesn't have big savings rate, nor big corporations. Polish growth is caused in big part through outsourcing of labor from western Europe. This will finish when Poland will not be cheap enough and there will be nobody to invest further with such a rate. Polish companies are too small, don't do much R&D and don't have access to cheap money as Korean firms have.

Hostels are for young tourists mostly. So what you should look at is the ratio between the number of tourists staying in hotel/hostels to number of hotel/hostels room in given city. It's not so easy as just saying that there are many tourists there so it's a good place for a hostel.

wykop.pl/artykul/2200132/liczba-turystow-w-polskich-miastach

to check number of hotels, hostels and prices there you can use popular search engines like booking. or hostelworld. or for example Polish:

nocowanie.pl eholiday.pl

You may notice so called "hotel pracowniczy". They are very cheap "hostels" for workers. They could be a competition for you too if you don't offer good enough standard, location and style, but just cheap price. And don't forget about competition of services like: airbnb.pl
