Law / Polish citizen raised in Cyprus, GF from Belarus. Would she become an EU citizen after marriage? Poland study. [5]

After marriage with you she doesn't become automatically EU citizen, but she gets unlimited permit to stay in Poland. After few (5?) years living in the Poland she can apply for Polish citizenship. And then she is automatically EU citizen and has same as you rights in Netherlands. Until then marriage lets her study cheap only in Poland I am afraid.

europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/residence/student/non-eu-family-members/spouses-children_en.htm

Alternatively perhaps you could get Cypriot passport since you were raised there. Then you could live together in 1 more EU country.

----added:
Hmm according to the link i gave you above you're in better situation. It seams that as long as you study/work in Netherlands your not EU spouse is treated as EU, so should pay EU fees:

"Equal treatment

During their stay, you should be treated as nationals of the country, notably as regards access to employment, pay, benefits facilitating access to work, enrollment in schools etc."

Life / Rising cost of food across the globe. How much is a weekly shop in Poland now in 2013. [53]

"I don't see that at all - though perhaps it depends where you are in each country - the Shetlands or London v. Podlasie, or on the other hand Warsaw v. South Yorkshire." Lidl and Biedronka have same prices in whole Poland.

"maybe food items are 40-60% cheaper, but wages are 4-6 times lower" - come on, just stop it. Of course Poland is poorer than top richest countries in the world. Why food prices should be lower in Poland? There is single market = no taxes on import export, so only difference in price should make: higher labor, renting and transport costs in UK. It's doesn't add much overhead when sold in big shopping malls. So don't connect food prices with salaries. If food was way cheaper in Poland than elsewhere in Europe that would simply mean that free market is malfunctioning. And salaries are low because Poland was always technologically lacking to the most advanced countries. (in some period of history less and in others more)

Love / Mosque and Catholic Church Wedding in Poland. Is That Possible? [21]

You would have to get baptized 1st in order to become Catholic and I think somebody could rise the fact that you're simultaneously Muslim as a problem for marriage. Except if you prior to that take Muslim marriage and then reject your religion. Then I think it would be Ok. Although you would have to check if Muslim marriage has any value to catholic church, because if it does, then it's impossible.

It's because your catholic girlfriend would have to get permission from Bishop for marriage with not Catholic, which she wouldn't get I think.

Life / Rising cost of food across the globe. How much is a weekly shop in Poland now in 2013. [53]

According to this site:

"Consumer Prices in Krakow (Cracow) are 50.45% lower than in Manchester" - there are single food products mentioned.

But when comparing prices of basic goods let's say in Lidl stores across Europe, then difference is not so big any more:

according to this basket of goods (although quite small) it's only 11% cheaper in Poland when comparing to Germany.

Study / National Louis University Nowy Sacz [18]

"National Louis University is a private non-profit American university. NLU has campuses in and near Chicago, Illinois, as well as in Wisconsin, Florida and Nowy Sącz, Poland. Many NLU courses and programs are also offered at-a-distance" - probably that uni was a joke. they offer program in english, but secretary speaks no english :D

Life / Hey, Nice Airport Wrocław! Or! Day #1 for an American Ex-Pat in Poland. [128]

In Poland rules Visa and MasterCard. Still better than in Germany when most of stores (except of big ones) accept only German EC-Card. (Or maybe not better because they write that Poland pays the most in the World for transaction fees.)

To help yourself with transaction fees create USD bank account in a Polish bank and simply transfer money online from America to Poland, take them in Bank department and exchange in Exchange office or online here:

walutomat.pl

Other option that I know, which omits money transfer transaction fees, is sending your American dollars from your american paypal account to your polish paypal account. It's free and withdrawing this money from your polish paypal to your polish bank account is also free. Although perhaps you can only withdraw PLN - that means, that you would have to accept paypal exchange rate.

Btw you write in interesting way

Polonia / Polish people have no presence in China and most people are confused! [16]

@ylzmichal: Very interesting explanation. Not so obvious here in Poland, but I must say that logical and one could expect such a behavior of Chinese government. I am curious what made you interested about Poland despite all of that? Are you studying the language or it's something else?

Law / Krakow IT and Outsourcing [11]

Is it really so Bad in Ireland? I know that the country had big crisis, but I tough It was not affecting IT sector which was mostly job for international corporations, so local problems were not so important for them as long as taxes and salaries are not rising.

Work / Salaries for architects and interns in Poland: how much? [18]

Because of construction boom in last decade there was big demand for Civil Engineers and Architects, because of that Architecture became one of top study faculties (by number of applicants). So now there are much more graduates than 10 years ago, but (at least temporarily) construction market is stagnating/ shrinking so same with job positions. But they say that for people with certificates there is still a lot of jobs - contrary to fresh graduates.

Work / Salary for native speaker in Poland (customer service job) [7]

A ranking that I quoted here last week showed that Median salary for foreign language call center stuff is around 3000 PLN gross in Krakow and Wrocław and 4000 in Warszawa. Probably most people on this positions speak English and I guess Dutch would be payed more than median. Taxes are around 30%. If he manages to negotiate anything above it then it's good for him.

USA, Canada / Getting job in U.S. with Polish degree [14]

I don't know personally, by doubt that Polska Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu is worth anything in time of high unemployment in USA. It seams that to get good job in corporation it's better to graduate some highly ranked uni and private polish universities even in Poland have low reputation. (except of maybe few exceptions)

Law / Getting registered in a house in Poland after getting married to a Polish citizen? [2]

You can check this:

There are two types of residence registration:

* Temporary stay (generally up to 3-months)
* Permanent stay.

Temporary stay registration

Up to 2 months:

Temporary residence should be registered if we know that the time of our stay will exceed 3 days and we should report to the office no later than 4 days from date of arrival in the specified location.

In the case of report for a period of two months we make the application orally at the town hall in the presence of the owner, or the person who holds any other right to the flat / house in which we live.

Depending on the office practice varies - sometimes for a period of 2-3 months, you can report orally, sometimes you must fill out a form, then apply the rules listed below.

Over 3 months:

In certain cases, a temporary check exceed three months. This includes people who:

- are employed outside the place of residence,
- are staying in a different place in connection with: educating, treatment, recreation or for family reasons,
- are taking active military service or are placed in prisons, correctional institutions, in detention centers or shelters for minors.

In these cases, it is assumed that someone is in a different location, although for more than three months, but the stay did not lost, however, the temporary nature.

In order to check-in, we have to fill out a form (available at the municipality office or on their website), which contained our data, ie:

* name (with family name), and first names,
* previous names and first names,
* parents' names and surnames,
* first names and last name of the spouse with the family name,
* marital status,
* gender,
* date and place of birth,
* citizenship,
* PESEL number,
* address: the former and the new place of permanent residence,
* type, series and number of identity document and information about education.

In addition, we provide also:

* the intended period of stay,
* confirmation of residence at a given address made by the person with the right to property
* for inspection by the official: confirmation of the above rights to the premises: eg. a copy of the Book of Perpetual, or property purchase agreement, court order (eg. a inheritance statement).

In order to check-in (regardless of the period), we need to identify ourselves by using:

* valid identity card,
* passport,
* abridged copy of birth in the case of minors who do not have an ID card.

Permanent stay registration

If your stay in a different location will exceed three months, and we do not meet the criteria for long-term temporary meld, or we plan to permanently settle in another place, we have to check in for permanent stay.

1. Check out.

To register for a permanent (or temporary residence) in another place we must check out from the previous location. To do so we must go to the municipal office in the place of registration and fill out a form. Personal data originally given at check-in shall be indicated. Check-out must be made no later than on the departure day. We obtain a certificate of checkout, which will be required to check in at the new location.

Check out by the change of residence is the same obligation as the check-in in the new place.

2. Check-in.

Check-in procedure at the place of residence is similar to that for temporary stay for more than two months.

We fill only another print: ie. Notification of permanent residence.

In order to change the place of permanent residence check out statement from the former habitual residence should be submitted.

The request can be submitted in person, or through a family member, guardian or actual legal or any other person authorized by us.

Change of permanent stay require Polish ID card to be replaced. The application for a new ID must be reported within 14 days from the date of check-in. Cost: 30PLN.

3. Children check-in.

Check-in of newborns is made in the Municipal Office, based on the information reported to the Civil Status at birth. Notification of birth is considered to be synonymous with the check of a child:

- In place of permanent residence of mother (in principle)
- In the place of permanent residence of the person with whom the child actually resides
- Or in a place designated by the Court of Guardianship.

On behalf of minors and incapacitated persons the residence place report is made by their legal representative (parents, guardians, curator), or the person who actually has custody.

Then a shared residential address of carer and the minor / incapacitated will be the address.

There is no need to report a temporary stay of less than three months in respect to children under 7 years-in.

NOTES:

Failure to comply with the registration obligation generally is not a big problem - the law enforcement agencies are not interested in sample verifications, however during the inspection of documents the authorities may be interested in the absence of such report.[/i]

Life / Do Polish people like Turkish people? [66]

If you're graduating IT in Polish uni right now, then you could easily find IT job here. How it will be in 4 years nobody knows.

Even if you learn polish, you will have to pay for studies, as you're not from EU. If you can present English certificate at B2 level then you can study in few places in English, but I think tuition are higher when course is in English. I am not sure if it's possible to learn polish for uni level in 1 year only. Maybe somebody here can answer that.

After graduating you can get working visa for 2 years here. Later you have to find IT company which will go through bureaucratic procedure of proving that there are no Polish applicants for the position to employ you legally. Currently it's not impossible as there is big demand for IT workers, but who knows how it'll be in the future. In the end you will need to get married here if you want to stay permanent.

Currently it's better to have diploma of public institution (except of this school: pjwstk.edu.pl), so try applying to public universities or polytechnics. Many private institutions are considered as worthless diploma factories here.

I think you would be ok as turkish student. Shouldn't be treated by professors worse than polish.

UK, Ireland / Why can't unemployed Polish people on benefits just leave UK and go home please? [240]

"it will change the fabric of british society and my identity if Immigration does not stop, now, it already has been let to get too far out of hand. I knew I'd be attacked for my views but I want to know why.

No, well... then Polish people are just being plain rude if they continue to talk in the workplace in polish, as this is england, I'm afraid.

I will leave this forum now, as I know that I'm not going to get any sensible, or at least, any answers that are not negative towards my country, or my view, which may seem xenophobic but I just can't help but see the major problems arising from the mass exodus from poland to england.

again, I can only assume that the man who is learning to drive with money earnt here, but flying back to poland for lessons, has short term plans here, unless it is just a way to get a cheap EU license, which is more likely.

its a shame we were so liberal"

- seriously? Polish people go to Poland to pass driving license? I was thinking that it's one of the hardest countries to pass this exam. Look at passing rates.

- too many immigrants? I am afraid that it's consequence of low birth rate. Without immigrants social system would collapse. It's same about Poland in 20 years.

- immigrants are not spending their money in GB? That's the result of them being immigrants. Anyway it changes about Polish people. As soon as they don't have family in Poland they're not stimulating Polish economy any more. So don't worry it will finish. (statistics supports that)

- immigrants from eastern Europe are not stimulating British economy and are the reason of lost decade? Ask somebody who knows better about economy. It's exactly opposite.

- est European immigrants are not escaping from prosecution, war. They're economic immigrants, so don't expect them to love your country and remember that your government could decide differently, not let them in and as results cut pensions, because every year would be less workers per pensioner.

One thing is that these immigrants are very bad for British workers. Such big number increased competition greatly and kept salaries stagnating. So I would say that everybody expect of low earning British citizens gained economically because big eastern European immigration. (by lower service prices and payed taxes)
