UK, Ireland / Can you drive from London to Poland in a UK hire car ? - [6]

someone told me that if i want to drive to Poland in a hire car - i may have problems.

Germany does not allow hire cars (cars that are rented - eg hertz car/ budget car etc ) across its border with Poland...

is this true ?

i want to hire a car in London and drive it to Poland next week .

it has European insurance and hire company gives permission to take it to Europe .....

has anyone hired a car in UK - eg.London and driven to Poland ?

what company did you use ? ( are they cheap)

did you have problems on German-Polish border ?

thanks ...

Language / Which is harder: Pole learning Russian or Russian learning Polish language? [57]

well ,,, i am english and i have learnt russian - mainly for fun. and i am now learning polish

it took me 7 years to learn russian by my self and i think it will take me another 6 months to learn polish - mainly because polish is so similar to russian.

if you are polish , learning russian should be easy - if you are english , learning either is hard - but once you know one , learning the other is not a problem...

UK, Ireland / Can you drive from London to Poland in a UK hire car ? - [6]

insurance is not a problem - many english car hire companies allow car hire to europe including poland for an extra £80-£100 to cover insurance.

one hire company i rang quoted £270 for seven days covering all europe unlimted mileage.

problem is germany - do they let hire cars across through to poland?

am sure they do ,,, just a rumour i heard says otherwise.

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

1700 a month is way to much !!!!!!!!!!! - the little skank is milking you my friend....

1700 pln aint a bad full time wage in poland - effectively you are paying this woman a fulltime wage to sit on her Asssss indoors to bring up a kid -which of course you probably didnt even want ........but which she was of course (for obvious reasons)only too willing to have!!!!!!!! - wouldnt take it mate - dump her and run

regardless of how much you are earning - the point is what you "should "be paying is what she is actually spending -reasonable expenses ,,, the court will then decide if them expenses are reasonable and only then ask how much your earning to see if you can afford these expenses- i dont know many polish women who can afford to spend 1700 zwots on one kid every month - yet seemingly this is what she is doing - of course its easy when its someone elses money

this scenario sums up all that is worst in the western world

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

if the woman wants a decent nursey - let her pay for it herself..

i have so many friends in the uk , all which assure me that a wage of 1700 pln a month is above average ....

you saying that this guy should be paying a fulltime average wage to her ?- cant imagine anything similar over here - at best shed get 16 per cent of his earnings.....

she played a part in having the kid as well - the most this guy should pay is half an average earning - what exactly is she herself paying???( in financial terms - not actually sitting indoors (sorry , that should read,, looking after the kiddy)

if she wants to play little miss independant and raise the kiddy all by herself - let het pay for it HERSELF, and if she cant then she shouldnt have had it .

it amazes me how only too willing women are to have kids without any regard to the cost - to the future ,,,, all the while alimony laws like this exist they just dont have to - .....

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

sorry delphine , but joe average aint creme de le creme of society - he isnt a lawyer , a doctor , an accountant either - i meet joe average in london everyday , a few of his other polish friends too.

im told the equivalent of £400 take home is very very good money - (particulary when you can rent a flat for this sort of cash in a city like lodz (an average city) for example ,and still have cash left over for the electric as well.

joe average doesnt earn a mint in kracow , and cant afford to send his kid to the finest fulltime nursery - because then he wouldnt be "average" would he?????????????????

why the hell should this guy be on the hock to pay for fulltime nursey care and every other bullsXXX expense ???? i cant afford to pay for fulltime nursery myself - and im on an average uk wage.

yes in england we do have benefits - but i dont know any mother even when claiming every benefit still being able to afford full time nursery - too expensive in england , and i suspect too expensive in poland as well- for someone earning an average wage say ,, in average town that doesnt happen to be the swankiest area of kracow -

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

polish solictor i know tells me its not what the man earns that is important - only what the woman is spending on average each month.

the expenses must be reasonable - full time nursery care aint reasonable!

what difference should him having a 50k car have on the up- bringing costs of a kid? because daddy is driving a bentley do the costs of kids clothes / food and electricity suddenly go up ?

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

i would say you aint got a clue either delphiandomine......but you and every other freeloading leach knows the system only too well ,

it seems to me that if every woman before having a kid could just ask herself if SHE could afford it - the number of child births would plummet.

on a personal note , i couldnt afford kids , and have never wanted them - i dont know what the future holds , but seemingly my partner does.

shes decided that she wants the kid shes expecting ,despite me always tellin her ive never wanted children and knowing full well im broke -

i always wore a condom with her , she herself never on any contraception and she herself always wanting a kid- probably knowing all to well - id be the one paying for her choice

the system aint right , ,,, one bright star on the horizon though ....

it seems that the international arrest warrant avalon was talking about - or rather the european arrest warrent , might soon have its day - in britain at least.

it seems britain has secured an optional opt in - to parts of the treaty of lisbon , a treaty which formalises / rounds up a whole suite of european justice and law enforcement measures -including the much abused european arrest warrent.

if as seems likely a conservative euro-sceptic uk government doesnt decide to "opt in " by june 2014 , euro arrest warrents wont hold in the uk - poland will then be stuffed.

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

And which of the three main parties is Eurosceptic? Unless UKIP get elected at the next election, who is going to revoke the the laws previously passed or lead us out of the European Union?

are these the same parties who are giving you your referendum.

avalon , its not a case of revoking its a case of whether britain wants to actually opt in, to this particular part of the treaty ,,, and if by july 2014 , it has not actually opted in , then by default weve opted out....no more polish e.u warrants horray !!!!

the fact that anyone can be deported to poland , (when in the same circumstances they would no way be sought for extradiction by the uk -for example , on matters of child maintenance/ ) , just because a polish court decrees it - is absurd.

at least if an english court could look into the merits of a particular case , the judgement of a foreign court - it wouldnt be so bad , but for now they are restricted to judging only on matters of procedure- whether the paperwork is filled out right - and not whether the money the mother is wanting ,,,,, is right.

the last labour goverment was coy about signing up to this nightmare and reserved judgement ,i cant imagine the latest batch of tories would be any more keener.

UK, Ireland / My wife is Polish and our son was born. British passport? [9]

just check the british border agency site - it lays it out quite clear...

the british father at the time of birth must be married to the mother if not

,,,,he as father must be entered onto the birth certificate within a year of the birth ...

both the above apply to kids born after july 2006

if not entered onto the certificate within this time - he must make representations to the uk secretary of state ...(presumbly with dna checks etc)

Real Estate / Can EU citizens (UK) buy land in Poland ? [17]

is it possible to buy land ( farmland with permission to build a house) , existing house ...

i ve spent some recent time in the countryside outside lodz , seen a couple of places , -one is just a plot of land with permission to build , the other an old wooden cottage with plenty of land to go with it ...

me - a uk citizen , my partner - (polish / not married/ but have a child with her)-

ive seen somewhere that land / farmland cant really be bought by foriegners even eu citizens - how is it for houses ? -

apparently buying an apartment is no problem , only thing is , i dont want an apartment - just a piece of land to build on in the future.

The question should be - what would you plan to do in the countryside outside Lodz? It's not exactly a prosperous area...
....
it may not be prosperous , but its where my g/f lives - and the countryside only 20 miles around it is rather pretty

[Moved from]: Poland printers who print "estate agent " for sale signs....

can anyone advise of a polish company , perhaps even one near lodz that prints estate agent for sale signs ...

typically these signs are printed on 4mm correx , very durable and ideal for advertising etc -

can easily get them in britain , but have not seen anywhere near lodz that supplies them ...

Law / Child Alimony in Poland - 1700 PLN? [74]

been reading the papers avalon ? -

yesterdays guardian tagline ... "Opting out of EU policing would be Tory Euroscepticism gone mad
Theresa May wants to abolish the European arrest warrant – an ostentatious gesture of EU hostility that would do much harm"

i think the guardian has got it wrong , and perhaps by your last post ,,, so have you - re"They have been using this treaty since 2003, do you think that they are going to opt out now and say sorry to the people they extradited?, perhaps compensate them?"

reading countless stories of poor brits/ poles being extradited to bloody poland on euro warrents - yesterdays annoucement by the uk goverment is way overdue.

Travel / uk mobiles in poland -no roaming fee , polish mobiles in uk - no roaming fee [3]

can anyone help me ....

i travel to poland quite a bit , and have a polish orange sim card . i also have a uk 02 sim card.

ive got a gizmo that lets me use my uk mobile in poland (the 02 one) without copping the roaming fees - to make / recieve calls , likewise , the same gizmo lets me use the polish orange sim card when in the uk - without the roaming costs...

the gizmo is left in the country whos mobile you want to use abroad - eg ... i have the gizmo plugged into my uk broadband router , my 02 sim card is plugged into the gizmo ... when i get to poland , i can log on to this gizmo uysing my polish smartfone.... and everytime some back home calls me ... the call comes thru to my polish smartfone , i can take the call and not worry about the charges ,,, likewise i can type a number into my smartfone, and the gizmo left back in the uk , will use the 02 sim card in it to actually make the call ....

since the 02 sim card (plugged into the gizmo) is still in my london flat .... no roaming charges apply - even tho , i am effectively using it from poland.

now ,you know how this works , im after a favour .....

im after anyone in poland with a good broadband conenction - good enough to listen to internet radio clearly - so it doesnt have to be that fast ......

that i could send one of these gizmos to ( they are about the size of macdonalds hamburger ) and have them plug it into the back of there polish broadband router .

this gizmo would contain my polish orange sim card .

when my polish girl freind calls my polish orange phone number - the call will hit this gizmo , go up your broadband and out to me in the uk - i can then take the call with no charges.

the gizmo uses virtually zilch bandwidth , and will NOT slow your broadband at all .

in return , for any uk expat is living in poland - i could supply and fit one of these gizmos in there uk home( theirs or a friend) so you can use your uk mobile phone in poland without roaming charges either ..

Law / Virtual Polish Mobile Number [12]

you can have a virtual mobile number - any polish network / any number ...all you need is someone in poland who has got a broadband connection.

there is a handy little device out there , which takes any sim card ... and makes it accesable over the net from anywhere in the world , allowing you to make/receive calls as if still in poland ... whilst not paying any roaming fees ,,,, as if still in poland .

#all u need is a polish sim card - "virtualising " it -is easy

Love / Polish mother, possible UK father - child law Poland. [35]

my polish g/f i found out some months ago , is preggo - infact , she is due to deliver anytime soon .... in poland.

i am british , have never wanted kids , and on the rare times weve both enjoyed "congress" - ive always used a condom ... which seemlingly didnt fail the last time that we were together...

however , a child on the way maybe the indication that it did ///

im in the uk , she is in poland with her parents and the child will be born very soon

im still not looking forward to being a dad - far from it ... apart from anything , im getting on a bit - havent the time or the resources (im renting a flat in london) - whilst she has every plan to live in poland with the kid- presumably me visiting as an when....

she told me months ago , she wants to be a single mum - that im a freebird - free to do whatever i like - even that she doesnt have to put my name on the official paperwork in poland

now she phones me , tells me she has seen a lawyer and she asks me to sign some form of agreement - a declaration of sorts that would mean my signature / presence will not be required in any decision involving the kid- for example in the application of a passport , medical treatment etc etc

she also says , that just as i can sign such an agreement , im free to " unsign it " - either way , to me this sounds like double talk - a way of limiting removing my rights , my input.

to be fair , if i spend most of my time in the uk - or travel abroad abit im not being the best father to the child anyway - but since the child isnt even born yet , im a bit reluctanct to sign over anything , even tho it maybe convinient / beneficial to her -

she also now tells me , that what she said about things not being official - my name not being on the birth /c etc - if she does this , if indeed i dont put my name on the birth documents etc ... shell make sure i never see the kid anyway - never.

even if i dont put my name down , she has told me that she'll force a dna check anyway

not wanting to be a dad now , im not interested in the child anyway - but things may change ... even so , she wants me to be on the b/certificate etc and sign over on this- meaning my signature wont be required anymore on any official documents / letters ( passport apllications etc) .....

apart from not wanting kids , doing my all to avoid them - i cant help but feel that condom didnt fail - her entire behaviour has struck me as odd , and im reluctant to put my name on the document without a check dna before hand - now she threatens me with never letting me see the kid when it is born , unless i do put myself down as the father , and in addition i sign over , effectivley my fatherly responsibilties vis-a vi the above ... im rather inclined to just let her her get on with it ......

any advice ?

Love / Polish mother, possible UK father - child law Poland. [35]

man up ?

if i took precautions - and she didnt ,,

if she never took a pill , used a coil , would never consider abortion , and wanted to be preggo - despite knowing i dont want kids ( condom use is a good sign) theirs no manning up about it ...

especially when there are other ways of getting preggo - eg ... using a sprm youve obtained with from a handjob - it can be done..

using a used condom - it can be done ( this is infact official nhs guide lines for getting pregnant for hiv couples)

there are all sorts of duplicituos means .....

dont get me wrong - her last words were , if you dont put yourself on the birth certificate ... "ill get a court ordered dna on you " - when ive questioned her about that i used a condom - her reply has always been .."theyre only 99 per cent reliable" - if u dont believe me - you can get a dna check done ....

almost as if to call my bluff,,

i will do a check , but to be honest the fact that shes threathens to blank me out - never to let me see the kid unless i put myself on the b/cert- makes me want to call her bluff - apart from anything thing else , if you as the mum genuinely knew the dad was the dad - regardless of him signing anything - youd hardly say to him - "youll never see the kid ".... if you dont sign the dotted line...

in her past she has told me she "needs to prgnant and have a kid by such and such time"

that also if i cant have a kid with u , ill have one with someone else ...

i should have left her then - but i didnt ,

Love / Polish mother, possible UK father - child law Poland. [35]

you folks - you are all great .... i cant say how much i appreciate your feedback ...

natasha - i have to admit , in the weeks since ive returned to the uk , it really feels as tho she is my ex- certainly only an ex can tell a guy he will never see his kid if he doesnt sign on line ...

my earnest wish , is the child isnt mine either - a fully committed family is one thing - but a woman who from the very start wants to be a single mum is another it leaves you feeling preety cold.

only time and a dna check will tell me the true story , in meantime - ill probably post again - if only for the recommendataion of a polish lawyer should i need one.

i did speak to one in england , but it turns out he was actually the equivalent of a "paralegal" - he was also expensive , perhaps a lawyer in poland maybe the way to go ....

once again - cheers guys.

the baby is born .

i went to poland , and demanded a dna test there and then ( i had a widely available "boots"dna testing kit with me - same one she's always suggested i could use if i dont believe the baby is mine).

i went to poland unannounced , and i could tell by her body language i am not welcome.

lots of questions like why do you want to see the baby , why are you even here ? -

now , i admit that ive never wanted childeren , and i tell her that if clock could be turned back , things would be different.

but what do you do for rest of your life - hate the child?

im here to see my baby , but her negative put downs -her constant demands / refrain , that all she wants to be is a single mum - are tiring to say the least .

she asks me what im doing in poland - at which point i say , because i want the child tested .....NOW

she refuses , tells me shes changed her mind about using the boots paternity kit i have with me - instead shell get a court ordered test......which i doubt she ever will.

in my situ , for certainty sake at least .................how would you compel a woman to test ?

truth is everything , and knowing one way or the other is a relief.

Law / UK dad - Polish mum - getting a child checked for paternity reasons... Poland [4]

i have had a Polish g/f (passed tense.).. she gave birth a couple of weeks back - ,,,and since i didnt sign the b/ certificate ( not 100 per cent sure the baby girl is mine) she now informs me , that she has all the rights / responsibilities for the girl.

now tho im not sure the girl is mine, likewise im not sure the girl isnt mine.... so ive seen her a couple of times for the short bit of time the mum allows .... but basically in her view , i have no rights or responsibilities,, i only see her when she lets me or rather , for whatever amount of time she lets me .... early stages yet ,, the baby isnt even a month old , but i cant say i find that arrangement attractive for the future.

in truth she is a beautiful looking girl , and although i cant put my hand on heart and tell myself the baby is definitely mine ... she just might be (ive reasons to doubt either way).

how straight forward is it for someone in my position to get a DNA court ordered test done in Poland - and if it comes out that im the dad - will i assume all rights (responsibilities too) as if i did sign that birth certificate- that is to say , in the future could get a legal order of some sort to let me see the child for a reasonable amount of time ?

as an aside , also ,, taking the child to England in the future would be nice- am i right in assuming , that since the mum is Polish - the little girl would have to use her Polish passport to get out of Poland ? -

Love / ARE POLISH GIRLS GOLD-DIGGERS? [359]

carrie 6555555
I have never met
harder women than Polish women, the bad ones seem to be totally heartless and seem to think it
is their right to exploite, also they always have something or some one to blame their behaviour on.

you know what youre talking carrie, ive met polish women who when going out with an englishman (successful business in london) forget to him that the reason that they

dont want to see him at christmas is because they have in fact a husband back in poland - meanwhile shed ponce him for every pound in his pocket so as that she can make a go

of a business in poland ( your usual shop selling primark rejects).

ive met other women who condone this behaviour and go one step worse and tell a father his a dad - even when hes not.

and of course ..... polish women in the uk quite often dont like 2 pay for anything - apart from anything it eats in to the money they are saving for back home.

when ever i see an english /irish guy in poland with a polish women - you know, the guys that dont speak polish , your typical trophy brit ..... i wanna say to them , warn them of where there

heading .

simple advise , ,,, date a woman of your nationality or higher , a woman with independance in her own right - and you should be fine...

installing your own vpn and accessing bbc iplayer / tvcatchup in poland isnt so hard.

i bought a raspberry pi- installed openvpn , stuck it on a router in a london pub , and use it to watch what ever i want when im away.

if you know someone in the uk , with a reasonable broadband connection , and a nice router , ( maybe even one with a built in vpn server - eg draytek routers ) then your laughing.,..

never tried hotshield / or any other paid varient .... the raspberry cost me 40 odd pounds , and 1hrs configuration .....

Life / Why is Orange Poland such a crappy / expensive network? [53]

in comparing orange poland with the numerous mnvos in the uk , ( vectone/lyca/giffgaff/lebara -even the main 4 operators) it seems to me that the price you pay, for the service you get , is pretty dire.

-no free customer service numbers and a
pitiful amount of minutes for the top up you make

my uk payg network offers me unlimited calls / unlimited texts for 15 quid - something im never gonna get with orange poland..... the pity of it is ,,, most folks i know in poland are with orange - so makes no sense switching network.

yes , but jon does a point have tho - the current high prices for just about everything we pay for today is proof.

speculators/middlemen who "hoard" commodities to sustain prices , those F~~~ks who bought homes/ ,, sorry property,, in the 2000s hoping for substantial returns in the future- regardless of the fact that weve all got to one day pay for those returns in the form of higher mortgages/rents ....

jon might have had this in mind when he speaks of hoarding - whats mental about that?

Life / a good car for the winter in poland ? [2]

can anyone recommend a car for wintering in poland.?

it will be used mainly in town - tho could involve trips on "unmade " roads - covered in snow.... house in the middle of no-where scenario...

i know winters can be a bit fierce so am considering 4 wheel drive- something like a rav4 diesel toyota ...

ive never ridden on unmade roads- much less , ones covered in snow in the middle of winter... does the rav sound like a good choice?

i have considered a freelander - but they are universally thought of as being unreliable engine wise.

i want to spend no more than £3000 secondhand , and id probly buy in the uk- cos it seems , for what you pay in poland - you dont get much.

additionally //// anyone drive in poland on uk insurance for prolongued periods ?

most policies allow driving for a short while - prolonged trips / cover doesnt seem to be much in abundance uk insurance wise................
