Language / Polish/Ukrainian words similarities [209]

Vlad123, do you reside inside or outside of MKAD? Your anti-ukrainian attitude is abhorrent. You are a just a Moskal, and please admit it.

Language / Quick question on Polish language fundamental [40]

Pretty much it is so. But as I am a native speaker I should defer you to someone who has learned polish from scratch, they sometimes visit here and have a unique understanding of the process of acquiring the skill.

Law / Lviv born. Can Polish ancestry be claimed? [34]

They were born in Liviv (Ukraine) Mother and Father Ukrainian. Grandmother Ukrainian (Born 1946) Great Grand parents Polish.

Not very consistent a heritage, but quite possible. However if she's orthodox or greek-catholic she is Ukrainian by origin as well. Anyhow, if none of her parents never held polish citizenship then chances now for her to get PL papers are totally slim.

Your another sure bet is Fukier, smack in the middle of Old Town (Old Town Square, in fact). If they cannot provide ambiance and good food I can't know who can... and certainly will set your boss back a few thous. as well. :)

News / How much Poland's economy grew up since 1989? [32]

giving examples of closed factories and what was there to replace it!

Come to Poland Ironside and see for yourself. There aren't that many closed factories to my knowledge. And by the way, are you for example aware that one local company (polish owned to my knowledge) named PESA has recently signed a 5 billion PLN contract to supply trains to Deutsche Bahn over next to years.

History / Was Prussia mostly German? [65]

And while discussing the history of area in question one really should understand the difference between various meanings of the term 'Prussia', otherwise any discussion is likely to become a mess

Excellent explanation Qui!

News / Kaczyński stirs up hatred between Germans and Poles. [20]

Jarosław Kaczyński stated that, “Germans in Poland should have the same rights as Poles in Germany.

Why JK is always so negative towards other people, is beyond my comprehension. If you reverse the logic of his statement (quoted above) I could actually agree with it.

History / Was Prussia mostly German? [65]

Both separate branches of my Grandparents were driven out of West Prussia by the Polish before the second world war.

Good for them. They did not belong there. Not in what you call W.Prussia aka Pomorze.

History / If you left Poland while it was under Communism, could you go back? [18]

Germans were smart. All they asked was (more or less) do you feel German based on (whatever)..... Once them Poles (aka German descendants) said "yes" (in WRITING) they enjoyed the privileges endowed upon them. No one after that would willingly renege on that, obviously. It would have been too costly to give back all that money back. And so be it.
