Travel / Collection of dress codes in Poland - what to wear? [95]

I hadn't thought of that, maybe the sports uniforms are provided by managers or sponsors who know they'll get more fans if they look nicer.

I know what you mean about Polish women being less obsessed about their appearances. In particular, I think they are less attracted to wearing well-known brands. Some British people, both men and women, like to wear clothing with the brand names written all over them, which is something I haven't seen in Poland and have seen much less on Polish people living in the UK.

Travel / Collection of dress codes in Poland - what to wear? [95]

Thanks Magdalena. I wondered whether the obvious preference of the Polish female volleyballers and boxers for not wearing trousers meant that Polish women were generally inclined to be more feminine, whereas in everyday life it seems to me that while they are undoubtedly beautiful, they prefer practicality and comfort in their clothing choices. It seems a strange way round to me...

Love / Turkish girl & Polish guy marriage. Will his parents ever accept me as a non Christian female? [42]

Your boyfriend will be doing nothing against his religion by marrying you. If you each keep your own religion and respect the other's then the only areas for possible tension will come when there are shared decisions to make where you could both want to do it according to your faith. For instance: Muslim or Catholic wedding ceremony? Baptise your children? Or, if they're boys, circumcise them?

I know both Polish and Turkish people, though I'm not of either nationality, so maybe I can help. I think the important thing is that while many Europeans have an unfortunate image of Muslims, based on the few extremists that give the faith a bad name, Turkey is of course a secular state and most Turks interpret their faith in a very liberal way. For instance, I assume you don't wear a veil, and that you drink occasionally :-).

It may be that the key to getting on with your in-laws is to persuade them that you are a moderate Muslim, and not someone who will put pressure on their son to convert or to live a life that contradicts how he has been brought up. Also to anticipate their questions about how you would jointly bring up any children you may one day have.

UK, Ireland / London Strip Clubs? What's it like for women working there? [74]

I don't view anything wrong with men being entertained by my body. It's a different thing if the men are harassing women in clubs of course. However, at the club I'm looking into, the security guards will kick out anyone that goes over that line.

It's complex but modern feminist theory is not against prnography, prostitution and stripping. Modern feminist theory is against the exploitation of these three.

I accept that a situation in which men pay women to dance suggestively for them is not necessarily exploitative of the women, in fact it's more likely to exploit the men. However, the problem is that the clubs and the people who run them are so shady. Often there is pressure to perform 'other services' after hours, for favoured customers. There may also be drugs, to keep the girls compliant, arguments over payments, violence, or at least threats.

Life / Is it common for Polish people to speak English in Poland? [122]

I don't think Polish people speak English in Poland, except when talking to people from English-speaking nations (we're too lazy to learn Polish) or working for multi-national companies where everyone speaks English for convenience. In British TV dramas and American films, all foreigners speak English with heavy accents among themselves, but we know it's not like that in real life...

UK, Ireland / London Strip Clubs? What's it like for women working there? [74]

@ KochanaPatrycja, yes, women choose to become strippers. But sometimes people choose the least bad option available to them, which doesn't take away from the fact it's a bad option.

How can it be a nice job for a woman to be leered at by drunken men who get off on making women gyrate in front of them, simulating sex, half naked, and who show off and persuade themselves they are not sad losers by stuffing money into the girls' underwear to make them do private dances?

And how do the women feel when they go home? Empowered? Like a female barrister, doctor or pilot? Or dirty and exploited? Having to pretend to enjoy pleasing those foul men is a way to support themselves and perhaps their children, but I don't think it's a happy way to make a living. Plus it's an industry that attracts sleazy men, who bully the women, put them on drugs, try to get them into prostitution etc. Horrible.

UK, Ireland / Ukrainians getting Polish passports then emigrating to UK/other EU countries [6]

Someone told me something the other day and I yes wondering if anyone here can confirm or deny it.

Apparently some Ukrainians are entitled to Polish passports because they have Polish ancestry or due to changes in borders etc. But it is said that a lot of Ukrainians who don't really qualify for Polosh passports get them fraudulently, then move to the Uk or elsewhere in the EU using these documents. Someone said they think 1 in 10 of the Poles in Birtain is really Ukrainian and that the numbers will rise due to the crisis in this country.

Could this be true? Or is. It just some rubbish from the Daily Mail?

Love / Polish girls don't go for one night stands, is it true? [56]

I think it's unfair to have a double standard for men and women. Also, it's illogical: if men can have one night stands and women can't, who will the men have sex with, unless you're suggesting they should go gay...

That said, I think one night stands are negative for both men and women. IMO sex should be about love, not just love. So I would rather see there be a stigma against men doing it, rather than it becoming more accepted for women.

Love / English girl. Do Polish men afraid to show their feelings or they are just not comfortable in UK? [84]

Men can have medical or psychological problems that affect their sex drive, so it isn't a automatically the case that they're not attracted to their partners. Your man's 20 previous women in the past year would suggest he has no physical problem. So that just leaves psychological/emotional issues or him not being that into you. To find out whether it's the first I think you need to talk to him. But from what you say, it doesn't sound too good.

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

Given the relatively good education system, Poles' interest in philosophical and political debate and their broader knowledge of geography etc, I think it is wrong to call them ignorant. I'm sure there must be some who are individually that way, but on average I'd say they're more knowledgeable than us Brits, and therefore about 1000% more savvy than a typical American :-)

Love / What do you like most about Polish girls? :) [120]

it looks like the English gentlemen have died out :(

Died out? No, we're alive and well :-)

Oh yes, and another one: you can never get them to wear a dress or a skirt, and ideally would work in a job that requires uniforms of some sort, and in particular trousers.

This bit is possibly true. Does anyone know why Polish women won't bare their legs?

But your other criticisms are I think not at all fair.

Love / What do you like most about Polish girls? :) [120]

I agree with all your points, except the one about cooking and cleaning. It's the 21st century, that's not what women are for!

Also, Polish women (and men) tend to be honest and conscientious, to enjoy culture (they don't just want to sit in front of the TV) and to be interested in what's happening in the world.

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

Well, you look pretty enough to be Polish, that's for certain :-)

I guess Polish people are a mix of Caucasian, Teutonic and Slavic, with some Jewish genes mixed in too. So difficult to identify a specific characteristic that marks someone out as being of Polish origins by their appearance.

A lot of people emigrated from Central Europe to the US from the late 19th to mid 20th centuries. I think if you were able to find out more about your family history it might help answer your question. One option might be to go to Ellis Island and enquire there, as that's where most were processed and admitted.

Travel / Want to know Hotel with Escort services in Poland [21]

@ McDouche, I didn't suggest that women have to be attractive to succeed in politics. On the contrary, I was expressing surprise at the beauty of one particular Polish politician, because most people in that line of work are not that attractive.

@McDouche and Wulkan, sorry but I do think that men who use prostitutes are sleazy. Yes, they may be Ukrainian, but that doesn't make it any better. Plus, such men may cause offence to local women staying in such hotels by propositioning them in error.

Love / Filipino guy with a Polish girl.. [60]

Filipinos are mainly Catholics, culturally even if they're not observant, so have a lot in common with Poles. One factor for women to consider is that Filipino men are almost all circumcised, which is rare in Poland.

UK, Ireland / Agnieszka Pomaska, beautiful Polish politician [43]

Englishman:First time I've ever wanted to go down on a member of parliament...
I think you could save such comments for your male friends when at the pub.

I'm sorry if I caused offence. I was feeling rather lonely and starved of female company when I wrote that comment. It's not a good excuse, I know.

The bravest woman will be the one who doesn't apply make-up, hair color and consistently wears pants suits. :)

I agree, though I think pressure to wear make-up and hair colour should be treated differently than any stigma attached to pants/trouser suits. The first two entail putting chemicals on the body to make a person look different to how they are naturally. IMO it's wrong that there should be pressure on women to do this.

The last, clothing, is on some level a signifier of social values. I think it's one of the few negative aspects of feminism that some parts of the movement have denigrated traditionally female clothing, and as a result some women in politics or business feel under pressure to wear trousers/pants, as if wearing skirts or dresses would present them as somehow 'not serious enough'. In fact there have been surveys in the UK and US where it has been shown that both women and men take women more seriously when they wear skirts/dresses. So if you're right and there's pressure on female politicans to dress that way, I think that's not necessarily a bad thing. Much better that than the other way round (pressure to wear pants).

UK, Ireland / Agnieszka Pomaska, beautiful Polish politician [43]

@ Jon, I'm guessing because he was in London. The video was filmed just outside the Palace of Westminster. She was probably shocked by the uneducated nature of some of the school groups that traipse around Parliament...

@ Kaz, I don't know about Poland but here in the UK the number of people who can be bothered to vote has been declining for years. Everything that can help get people interested in politics has to help. That could include getting in some more attractive candidates, such as Agnieszka P.

UK, Ireland / Agnieszka Pomaska, beautiful Polish politician [43]

I've just seen a newspaper article reporting criticisms of the British education system by a Polish MP, Agnieszka Pomaska.

Polish MP slams poor UK schools: Politician says immigrants are taking jobs because they are better educated and work harder than Britons

Poles have ended up competing for highly paid professional jobs in the UK because they are better educated and work harder than their British counterparts, a Polish MP has suggested.
Agnieszka Pomaska, a senior MP with her country's ruling party, said Polish immigrants to Britain were no longer seeking low-paid work in the agricultural sector as they did a decade ago.
Instead, she said, her countrymen would inevitably seek out middle-class professions.
Speaking at a conference in London yesterday, Miss Pomaska criticised British politicians who suggest immigration from the EU has prevented British youths from finding jobs.

dailymail/news/article-2540946/Polish-MP-slams-poor-UK-schools-Politician-says-immigrants-taking-jobs-better-educated-work-harder-Britons.html

Setting aside the rights and wrongs of her comments, I just wanted to say I'm amazed to see such a pretty woman as a member of parliament. I know that Polish women are on average much better looking than most nationalities, but generally politicians of either aren't lookers. But Agnieszka is simply stunning! First time I've ever wanted to go down on a member of parliament... (have you seen our British politicians?)

Does anyone know any more about her? What party does she represent, what are her views and does she specialise in any particular areas of policy? And what made her want to become an MP.

UK, Ireland / Calling all Brits! Travel in England advice [32]

I think the best places to go to depend on whether you're planning to do everything by train or whether you're willing either to hire a car when you're here or bring your own across. Sadly our train services aren't great in the countryside, so having the use of a car would be great if your preferences are rural.

My own favourite places in the UK, other than London, are:

The Lake District (about to become a UNESCO world heritage site, but you'll definitely need a car)
The Peak District (car also needed for this)
Bath (a city, so accessible by train from London)
Brighton (likewise, though the nearby South Downs are also attractive, and demand a car)
Edinburgh (capital of Scotland - a train journey or short flight from London)
The Northumbria Coast (again, car needed)
South Devon, especially the South Hams (Salcombe, Kingswear, Totnes and nearby)(might just be possible by train and bus, but a car would make life easier)

And yes, calling us Brits is fine :-)

Love / Polish cities with most single young women [11]

And why "singles" on your blog and only "women" in the title of this thread on PF?

That's a good point. The article showed gender ratios for a number of Polish cities. Some had more men than women, so could be good hunting grounds for single women seeking men. Yet only the partner-seeking opportunities of men were highlighted...

Life / Public Masturbation now allowed in Sweden, Would this work in Poland? [43]

I think it's probably OK for women but not for men, as they can do it more discreetly and without leaving a mess. However I suspect that female masturbation is still slightly taboo in Poland, due to the misogynistic influence of the Catholic Church, despite the Bible condemning male masturbation but saying nothing against women doing it.
