News / "Shale Gas Revolution" will make Poland a Leading Country in Europe! [202]

@Adam1974

Witaj w Polsce! Good luck with your work and i hope you enjoy Poland.

If you can, can you help answer a query.

producers pay only a 1 percent tax on the volume of hydrocarbons produced, (in Poland)

This does not give much information, Does this mean a 1% levy on the market value of the gas? Is there any tax per cubic feet/metre in Poland? How would you asses the regulatory and taxation framework to the USA?

Also the chemicals used in Fracking have been in the news in Australia
w_ww.smh.com.au/business/coal-seam-gas-report-points-to-chemicals-ban- 20110202-1adt8.html

Specifically

The chemicals benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene - collectively referred to as BTEX - are sometimes used in the fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, process for extracting coal seam gas.

Mr Kelly said the government was ''inclined'' to ban the mining practice of BTEX fracking, which the Queensland government banned last year,

Will your company be following industry best practise and also not use these chemicals in poland?

thanks

i dont know about others but there are lines i wouldnt cross in order to make a living, what ever i do it has to provide something beneficial for society,

Thats a bit harsh wroclaw. People are trying to do the best they can and who knows the benefits might outweigh the costs if handled properly. If the goverment had as much tax revenue coming in as Norway then things might really change, of course since polish politicians are mostly thieving świńie co sprzedali nasz kraj this is unlikely but hopefully Poland gets a figure like Lula who can help the poor and also maintain economic credentials.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Bzibzioh

There is no benefit to society as a whole to have third generation of healthy people receiving it.

Sure but there is no benefit to society to have such harsh benefits that people turn to crime , or have so low disability benefits that people starve. Yes it is happening in Poland, Some people have disability benefits and have to live on 4 zl a day. Czech republic does not have these problems because they adobted the western social democratic model while poland being first to reform their economy, stupidly listened to the americans at the chicago school of economics.

News / Poland needs a left wing govt. [111]

Well according to the latest polls Grzegorz Napieralski, the leader of the Democratic Left Alliance is the most trusted politician in Poland so hopefully a left wing goverment with sensible social policies is not far off. :)

There are currently big tensions between Poland and Belarus. Plus Lukashenko is a nice little dictator. Last time he was talking about moje polaki referring to the large polish diasopra in Belarus who are being discriminated against. The Polish Goverment should really give citizentship to these people.

Anyone who's grandparents or parents were born in Poland is eligible for a polish passport.

Don't you think the same right can be afforded whose parents were born in territory that was formerly poland, and who identify as polish?

How is this ethnic cleansing. Poland allows dual-citizenship, the poles in belarus should have a choice, at the very least it would allow polish individuals in belarus to work in the EU and send the earnings back home..

News / Poland gets a little bigger:) [82]

Luckily this is all ancient history..

Relations between Poland and our Czech brothers are the best they have ever been. The goverments are coperating on many issues, from EU policies to cracking down on dopalacze. I lived in prague for a year and smolensk has a big attitude towards their friendship with poles.

forsal.pl/artykuly/501429,polska_i_czechy_przygotowuja_sie_do_polaczenia_rynkow_energii.html

We are even integrating energy structures.

The future is bright, there are many polish people living in prague and they are welcomed.

Travel / Why most taxis in Warsaw cheat foreigners to get more money? [38]

In Poland the taxi market is what we call the 'amerykanski rynek' meaning american laisre faire capitalism, that is anyone can put a taxi sign on their car and call themselves a taxi and there is no enforcement to stop it. 70 percent of the taxis you see in warsaw are fake and not regulated.

There are only three real taxi companies in warsaw, i suggest you use one of them and you will always get a fare ride. i recomend MPT. The taxi drivers who pay go to the trouble and are legit regularly have big fist fights with the fake taxi drivers..

its crazy

News / Poland's Lost Generation [172]

Good points and i agree that polish youth are quite materialistic and conservative but what can one expect after the fall of communisim? There is a difference between the poles who leave and those that choose to say. I think the ones who emigrate and then come back have more desire to transform poland as they have seen what is possible overseas.

While less than in western countries, there are people who want to change poland socially and politically.

I like these guys.

News / Drug Policy Reform in Poland [29]

I've noticed this political campaign heat up recently. PO has felt the winds of change and introduced an ammedment to slightly ammend the 62.1 drug clause. This wil allow the prosecutor not to proceed with charges against individuals caught with small amounts of drugs. Whilst older poles like to proclaim marijuana is of the devil whilst drinking themselves to death, its good to see some signs of change and sustained political activism emerge amongst the youth to combat the conservative secton of society. The ammendement has several shortfalls ; the amount of the the drug is undefined and it is up to the the prosecutor's good will wether he abstains from prosecution. This will lead to abuses but it's a small step forward in reforming the most draconian drugs laws in the EU.

Here is some background info and a mini documentary (In Polish)

In the year 2000 Poland amended the criminal legislation on drug possession. As a result, every person possessing even the smallest amount of an illegal substance was liable to prosecution. There were two assumptions behind the amendment: first, it is more difficult to catch the dealers if they can carry small amounts of drugs on them. Second, if you cannot catch the small retail users and dealers, it is impossible to arrest the big fishes: the bosses of drug trafficking gangs.

News / Raising Poland's legal drinking age to 21 [95]

If everything were legal, addiction rates would be much higher. People used to get addicted to morphine in large numbers when it was available over the counter in various tonics..

That's not true, when morphine was legal most people were not aware of its addiction potential, it was marketed as a cure for all. There's a greater question here, should goverments have the right to make criminals out of people consuming a certain substance.

Regulation rather than legalisation is the way to go.

As for the 21 year law it won't work. But other regulations such as the hours you can buy alcohol would.

For instance in oz you can buy alcohol only from special 'bottle shops' which close at 10pm.
Most alcohol problems occur once the bottle of vodka has been drunk and then you wander off at midnight or 3am to get another. Having limited opening hours might curb this problem.

News / Drug Policy Reform in Poland [29]

unintended? don't break the law and you won't have a wrecked family, life, etc. it's rather simple, dont you think?

No life and law are never simple. In many instances the law might not be just or be unjustly applied. Would you say the same about someone (yourself even) who wanted to have a beer when alcohol was illegal in the states?

I don't believe govt should be overly protective when it comes to drugs. Let people make choices :)

Yes that is true but the goverment does a role in protecting the individuals, However when that function is perverted to criminalising a million of poles that use drugs somthing has gone terribly wrong. I watch with amazement when the anti terrorist squad to breaks down, doors, throws in a few flash grenades and run with automatic weapos. just to bust a weed dealer. The anti terrorist units in the polish police (BOA) are used once every two days!

We need to go beyond the war on drugs/legalisation debate. Drugs could be still illegal but the penalties should be civil rather than criminal.

The czech republic is a great example of drug reform. It's still against the law to possess 15 grams or less, but it's tolerated and the police have the power to give you a fine. People can grow up to three plants, again tolerated but with the possiblity of a fine.

Whilst maintaining its paternal protective role, the czech goverment has stopped the war on its own populace and in fact decentralised the profits from the marijuana trade, putting the money into citizens pockets rather than the mafia. In fact a whole industry has sprung up including hemp hand creams, weed seed vodka, hemp clothes etc.

News / Raising Poland's legal drinking age to 21 [95]

Obviously, authorities are seeing a problem with alcohol addiction in Poland, that is why they want to do something about it. They should be applauded for caring, not criticized and condemned. The 21 and up law is a good idea

Well yes, the more freely avaible a substance is the more it can be misused. But the flip side incarcerating people for utilising that substance. Cigarettes are as addictive as morphine do you support the prohibition of cigarretes?

People knew it was addictive because they got addicted to it. They figured it out.

Thats circular logic, there were no warning labels, it was sold in an unregulated market to an uneducated populace. Do you think oxycontin would have got so popular if the drug maker/doctors had told users it was as addictive as heroin?>

News / Drug Policy Reform in Poland [29]

@convex

Whilst i agree, I guess the arguement is that destructive behaviour impacts on other people. For instance if someone takes too much amphetamines and beats up their wife. Or its an economic cost to the goverment, ie the health effects of cigarette smoking add millions to hospital costs. I think goverments have some role to play in educating the population and regulating supply without criminaly penalising the user. Having worked with some of europes legal highs producers, I have seen the negative social effects of a legalised, non regulated, non morality based marketplace.

cover up that most of them come to Poland to steal women from European guys.

10 or 15 years ago you would have been saying the same about italians or french. Now that you have had experiences with europeans you see them as fellow human beings and o.k.

It is good news that there are more africans in Poland, in means that in 10 years jarnova will not be fearfull of them anymore and will instead be ranting about martian men stealing polish women.

History / Poland's 1945 - 1989 under communism or during socialism? [65]

Well theres many forms of socialism, polands being prob the most moderate in eastern europe, private property was allowed, people could run a business in certain economic areas. The church was allowed with many party members being openly catholic. However the communist class was not overthrown but shared power in 89. This meant that many of the means of production fell into their hands during the privatisation era.

o.k you are seeing it from a personal rather than rather than racist perspective, i can respect that. Let me answer your post in a number of ways.

Women are always attracted to the exotic so if you ever live in Asia or africa you would find african and asian women attracted to you in the same way your describe.

The other matter is that its important not to generalise, each individual wants somthing different and one can stumble into love in the most unexpected places and most importantly not see love as a competition.
