News / US air base to be in Poland [193]

I wouldn't worry about it too much, empty talk

Thats most probably correct.

The only reason why U.S. is promising air base in Poland is to preposition their army and obligate other nation to fight the upcoming war.

This is a big part of why the US base is not a good idea

And I thought we agreed on thightening bonds within Europe but that too means a strong atlantic alliance...

Without sucking up to the US on every chance.

More or less. But it would be preferable to keep it at a distance, ie short of actually hosting bases. Build European bases where European armies are hosted.

Why suck up to anyone at all, especially the US. You cannot say Poland will get anything out of it. Maybe eventually in the distant future. You are saying that the alternative is to suck up to Russia? why? Closer ties with the rest of Europe and building up Polands own military will suffice.

Poland's own generals said it's military is capable right now to protect itself

Thats why it needs to be built up!

Not just ties with Germany but whole of Europe.

Lithuania

Is this a joke?

Anyhow what exactly did Germany and South Korea get out of it?

So Sky and Guesswho, how would this base be positive for Poland at all?

I am waiting for them to tell me why the air base in Poland is a good idea, let alone the whole partnership.

"they're unarmed right now they'll be armed again in a year or so once rotation is over and they are permanently placed there. But those will be the PAC-3 Patriots much much modern and effective"

How is that good? Insignificant.

Sure thats a good point. But the international standing that Poland will be left in after this close relationship will not be good. On the whole its probably not the best idea, or the best way to go about it.

Sky you have some very good points in your long post there. I just think that Europe should replace the US in those roles, for reasons I have already stated. That and what Marek was saying that Poland would just be obligated to serve the United States upon request in any future conflict. We dont need the US just Europe.

News / US air base to be in Poland [193]

At this time Europe, as a whole, is incapable and unwilling to fight the real threat in today's world

That is why we need to have closer ties. Not just one way, Poland to Europe, but back and forth if you know what I mean. The US can remain a partner, but why promote publicly such ties with the number one target for these terrorists.

wouldn't say there is as "strong" isolationist movement in the US

Right.
USA has never been isolationist, not even before world war 1. People may think so, but even back then they have been constantly invading nations in south and latin america.[quote=Dande]I wouldn't say there is as "strong" isolationist movement in the US

For 3rd world country like Poland

LOL

Cannot believe I actually have to explain this to some people. The point of the above is question the quoted commentator on why he holds this view and in extension why Poland needs a so called boost from the US. I guess some people are just that dense. My comment is in line with the thread, and I was not insulting anyone.

History / What nation do Poles feel closer to? [74]

So you could say until July 1, 2011. Hungary and Poland will be very close.

But then Poland gets the presidency right after :)

History / Life in Partitioned Poland (Specifically in the Prussian Partition) [118]

dismantled Polish state was high due to racial discrimination and unemployment on traditionally Polish lands

Thats a quote from Bratwurst Boy quoting a source in another thread. While Prussia may not have been as bad as the Russian partition, it was still not a wonderful place. Dont say there was no discrimination or persecution.

On a side note I seem to be finding that the Austrian partition was the best for Poles.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Since there is no USSR anymore there seems to be no second world. Even so I would not Classify Poland as second world. It more of a first world country just a step behind others like France or Canada.

Whoever thinks that Poland is third world is just stupid or a stupid troll.

News / Poland ready to receive Libyan refugees [159]

It is not Poland responsibility to host these people. The countries who are there like the US, UK, France should. They, if anyone signed up for taking them in, certainly not Poland.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

I really don't like it "are you all right".....What is the point of it? This person doesn't know me personally and is not interested if I am "all right" or not.

Totally right. I hate that. I just do not respond.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Oh, that's rude...why would you assume that the person who asked does not mean it? Let's say I tripped and fell on the street and someone asked me 'Are you all right?' I'd be happy to respond either I'm OK or I think I twisted my ankle...instead of the instant negative approach...you don't know me, why do you care.

Thats totally different

History / Poland Lithuania - current relations [124]

Poland is in Central Europe, whether you like it or not. Politically, culturally for the most part and geographically. Like someone said Poles have always lived there and have the right to use their language. Just as Lithuanians have where they live in Poland.

Study / AFRICAN STUDENTS INVASION in Krakow [197]

Blacks, Asians, whatever minorities are fine to have in Poland as long as they stay minorities. Under 10 percent of Population, no more is acceptable. Inter racial breeding should certainly not be encouraged. Problem is eventually, what will be a Pole if that happens too much? Minorities are nice, as they bring some variety to society, but if it gets out of control our own culture is threatened. Poland is for everyone, but most of all for Poles. It would be a big shame to see Poland the way GB is.

Money is not the only thing to life. Another thing wrong with the west. Some things are not worth sacrificing for money. Besides that is not the only way to become rich. Look at Germany. Almost completely ethnically homogeneous yet one of the richest nations in the world.

Study / AFRICAN STUDENTS INVASION in Krakow [197]

Why are some people complaining so much. We have a society with practically no minorities. Cannot hurt to have small minorities. Certainly a few hundred Africans coming to study or even live is almost a non topic.

News / Poland A and Ukraine B. Compare how far Poland has advanced. [282]

Is that even possible?

Im just saying there is no need for hate. Besides I dont really get this Lwów sitaution. They may have the region but we are much more developed. Getting these territories back would only be bad news.

USA, Canada / Chicago's 1.1 million Polish Americans celebrated Constitution Day [47]

The fact that only 20,000 of them could be bothered to vote for the head of state says it all.

I dont believe that anyone who does not live in the country should not have a right to vote. If one chooses so it must be taken seriously and carefully. So Delph, maybe they just felt like they did not have a right to vote.
