Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

For Poland to go forward in the european and world markets, it must respect that English is, has been, and will be the most common recognized, used language world-wide. I believe the Polish government has addressed this by adding the English language into its curriculum. So lets face it, English is the no.1 international language in the world and it wont be long before all the Polish people are speaking English, as is the rest of the modern world. So I agree with Fuzzywickets, that the Polish language is of absolutely no use outside of Poland, as is German to Germany, French to France etc., But on the other hand, I would agree that it is civil and courteous when in a foreign country, to at least try and integrate with the locals. Good morning, thank-you, please, what a nice day, all go a long way in whichever country you are in.

Life / Awkward Polish dinner party conversations with 'patriots' ... [25]

When asked a question involving comparisons, the simple reply is to say " I,d rather not comment on that subject, so as not to cause offense ", and stick to it.

I have found that the Poles usually don,t pursue the topic as they don,t like being offended.
You can see this time and time again on this forum.

News / 2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.. [52]

"2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.."

Not surprising !

Still too much bureaucracy.

Disregard for law and order.

Poor infrastructure.

Incompetent users in I.T.

Percentage of poverty undisclosed.

Politically manipulated economy.

Believe me, many people are living below the bread-line.
You need to travel around to get the bigger picture.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

.I know lots of Polish folk who do not experience the problems you seeem to. I am not saying it is your fault but it is not the full truth, not the full picture.

Couldn,t agree more !

Think about your statement Krysia, and then tell us what opportunities Poland has given any minority of migrants. Exactly ! ..... I dont see any foreigners in Poland holding high positions.

They work on markets, clean toilets etc.

And I have heard on many occasions Poles telling these people " if you dont like it, you know what you can do ". So you see, Poles and Brits are alike.

What do you expect ? The UK did not want the influx of Poles it got, they did not invite or have job offers for Polish people ( who couldn,t even speak the language ).

Admit it, your people invaded western europe seeking pastures green, thinking the world owed them.

Well, wake up, because anything anybody,s got in the west, they had to work bloody damned hard to get it. ( and in their own country )

UK, Ireland / Poles leave Britain to return to Poland [89]

Come on, since when are British people open to new cultures?

Have you ever been to Britain, if so, I think you should have spotted many different cultures.

You simply cannot tar everyone with the same brush. All countries have faults, even mine and yours. No ones perfect ( except God ).

So personal issues should be just that....... personal.

Pick on Gordon Brown for example ( an individual ), not the English nation.

Love / English boyfriend coming to visit me in Poland [55]

I think you should take Polish culture into account, and realize it would be unethical to invite someone you have only known a short time to stay over in your family home, ( skeletons in the cupboard ). Your parents will be uneasy, even if they don,t show it.

I vote hotel, you will both have a better time and some private space for each other. You can then introduce him to your parents without any panic or stress.

A small price to pay, to start you off on the right road.

Love / English boyfriend coming to visit me in Poland [55]

I would be embarrassed having to do a number two, in a confined space with the future in-laws sitting in the next room.

Never mind the noisy farts, the after smell has got to be most daunting.

Real Estate / Building a house in Poland need advice from anyone that has built [100]

Just about sums up the Polak.
Stubborn, knows best and can totally cock up everything at someones expense.
I have over 30 years experience of the building industry, but they still know better than me.
Native English speaker, but they claim they can speak better than me.
I simply give up when it comes to Poles ( you can,t educate pork ).

Food / Traditional and lesser known foods of Poland [21]

kotlet schabowy - a pork cutlet coated in breadcrumbs

Otherwise known as a " pork chop ".

kaszanka - Polish blood sausage made with kasza

Made with kasza ? ......... " buckwheat ".
Kaszanka = " Black-pudding ".

kielbasa- excellent smoked meat

Smoked sausage.

naleśniki - pancakes stuffed with jam

Thats special ! Courdon bleu ?

'czarnina' is known across Poland. Board of health regulations now prevent the sale of blood in butcher shops, so only those who raise their own poultry or know someone who does can regularly enjoy the soup.

I heard " Castle Dracula ", down south, do a good deal on the stuff.

Love / How to please Polish women? [216]

Unfortunately it takes a long time for Polish females to mature into womanhood.
Therefore to please a Polish female, lets say from the ages 16 - 50yrs old, I suggest buy them something in line with a lolli-pop.
For the older more mature Polish woman, I,m sure a bunch of flowers would suffice.

Ask yourselves who stopped this great man, who was in the position to eradicate the world of communism.

Think how different the world would have been.

No " cold war " etc.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Senior members of society have been complaining about the manners of youth
not being up to their standards ever since the beginning of civilization.

I,m not talking about " young people ". I said " modern generation ", and we my friend, fall into that category.

Torq

I am neither a liar or a fight picker, but I too am a well traveled person. I like to put issues across honestly and without bias.

If you also post by these principles, then I accept your opinion, and we beg to differ.
( stalemate )
But I think I detect a little bias on your part ?

News / Poland's Economy Is No Joke [63]

Why is it then, that a day does not go by and all you hear in the Polish news, is that schools, hospitals and other public services are strapped for cash ?

People not having been paid for 6 months, or even up to a year.

Yes, MANY people are starving and suffering to make ends meet, just for the sake of a government creating a FALSE economy.

Great economy is that.

Watch this space.......... all good things come to an end.
