Real Estate / WOODEN HUNTERS TOWERS ON MY LAND in POLAND.....is it legal....? [59]

So..refresh my memory , is it legal to put this thing on my land

Rather not, if they don't have owner's permission. Check if the borders of your land are correct and if the tower is in fact on your land (sometimes it is tricky as the border stones might be placed incorrectly or moved...).

Yes, they are legal.

I don't thin so, if they were placed on private property without prior consent.

Koło łowieckie doesn't need permission from the land owner.

It does. It is not above the law.

Love / My Polish girlfriend's mother called her a prostitute because we live together [113]

Most doubtfull sentence I heard today.

Any arguments to support Your statement, mate?

Nope, just my own experience. And do you know all Polish mothers to say that most of them ar this or that etc.? Hah!

If it's a white Westerner yes, others no.

when we lived in Mikolajki, I've met a girl who was about to get married with an Welsh guy and her whole family was very happy about it so I guess Midas is right about what he's saying.

If it was a western hobo or a loser - then it would be okay for them? What are you basing this on?! On one example from Mikolajki??? This is not how you make statistics.

Life / Moving to Krakow and in need of advice and pointers. [18]

i will also be looking for employment! my background is in sales and hospitality.

Hi! With this you could either think of your own venture, or look for some opportunities in one of the SSC and other centers around Krakow. They are always hiring. Sales positions are also to fill. Or try hotels also. First tip: Park Inn hotel is looking currently to hire a marketing/sales person for their conference rooms. Maybe this one?

Life / Clothing sizes in Poland for children and adults [4]

Polish clothes sizes are European sizes (except maybe the UK), same with shoes, some countries have it differently, but in Poland it's the same as majority of Europe.

Real Estate / What are possible price ranges (rent) for studio and 1 bedroom apartments in Krakow? [20]

Hi,
Congrats!
As far as accommodation in Krakow is concerned, the kind you are looking for should be around 1000 - 1300 PLN. A cheaper one is possible, true, but rather further from the centre, in remote parts of Krakow. You could get a place for 600 in Nowa Huta, but I wouldn't advise this. You''' be facing ***** of a commute and it's not nice as the centre.

Life / The facial piercings scene in Poland [7]

I have two lower lip piercings, a nose ring, and 2 eyebrow piercings.

I'd be more concerned with encounters with metal detectors than

all these skin-head hooligans

Travel / NOT COMING TO KRAKOW- KEEP IT! [30]

smart arse cynical bastard

Prague where people seem a whole lot nicer

experienced the shite I've seen on Krakow expat websites

All smart arse cynical twats.

Thanks a lot. You don't know people in Krakow, but you seem to have a pretty shaped opinion based on... websites. Which ones by the way??

I'm staying in Prague where people seem a whole lot nicer. In 10 years in Prague I've never experienced the shite I've seen on Krakow expat websites

Yes, and you base your opinions on websites - that is real life experience. Now you can be a tour guide around Krakow.
I like Praha for example, but it was there when I was tricked and cheated on. In real life, long time ago - and I don't rely here on websites as you do. Internet almost didn't exist then. Now, should I be saying that Prague is s*it and people there are cheaters? I don't think so. But I do think your post sucks because you have no real experience and yet you give judgement. Come first, be cheated on or treated unfriendly and only THEN start such writing bollocks like this.

Cheers anyway!

Life / Do men in Poland go to barber shops or hair salons ? [16]

Do men in Poland go to barber shops or hair salons?

Noooo. This is absolutly uncommon. Hairs link every Pole to his ancestors and cutting them would be betrayal of their homeland and forefathers. Instead of cutting hair, Poles just wait for senility when they get bold.

WHAT a stupid question!

Law / What banks are people using in Poland? [50]

BZ WBK has internet and telephone access also in English and for e.g. 3 or 5 PLN per month you have everything else (including all ATMs everywhere) for free, no comission.

Deutsche bank - isn't this the bank which now has to pay the largest fine because it was proven in court that it was cheating its customers a lot? Gives thoughts... I'll never have anything to do with them for sure.

Language / What I learned so far about the Polish language. [30]

Hello there!

You get respect for attempt to learn Polish (and it does lok like a real attempt judging on your description).
I totally agree with your post and wish you success in mastering this hard (but beautiful) language where there's sometimes more exceptions from grammar rules than the applications of this rule:).

cheers

Life / Understanding Poland's Birthday Tradition [66]

she received the same thing and that it's a tradition

It seems like a pretty dumb tradition and resembles a poor copy of the 'tradition' in the army for rookies.
It is definitely not practiced everywhere in Poland.

Life / How could things have gone so wrong (Poland church dress code) [195]

Church territory-church rules. If you don't like it simply don't go there.

I have to agree with that. I like most traditions.

Less seriuously: Respect other peoples' obsessions or superstitions, no matter how ridiculous they are. Lots of people like to gather every Sunday to compare their clothing and then suddenly someone less aware comes wearing... shorts. That's not cool.

Of course *that* message rendered their religion useless, so that's the *real* reason as to why he got crucified.

Or... you need to start with something big and controversial to run a religion?

what rules? - have you seen them codified?

The unwritten book;). It is a custom, as in most Greek monasteries or churches there's a sign for tourists to put something on before entering (cover shoulders and wear long pants/skirts. If you don't have anything - they'd rent you scarfs etc. I think this is fair actually.

The Bible's rules about dress cannot be applied directly to today's situation.

Hahah, put it on today for an hour, walk down a street and they'll put you in a mental hospital for observation:)

principles of modesty

Casual attire in these circumstances is simply inappropriate if we really think about what we are doing, where we are going and who it is we will meet.

Some things really ARE important and our clothing and demeanor ought to reflect this truth

Can't argue with that.

Life / How could things have gone so wrong (Poland church dress code) [195]

out of respect to whom - do you think Jesus cares what length your garment is while in church?

That's just "church fashion" - you have to follow the trends ;)

But still

shorts

in summer are more sane than priests black evening gown :D

Life / Smoking vs. Grilling on Balconies / High Rises in Poland [66]

carrier bags tied to the balcony

Jeez...
This works only for a while, nothing works permanently on pigeons except a net and special chemical sprayed after every rain (works in about 90 % cases).

Also, I noticed pigeons were prone to lead poisoning (completly differnet topic).

metal scaffolding pipes

- That must've been hard!
No mediation was possible?

Life / Smoking vs. Grilling on Balconies / High Rises in Poland [66]

What is this obsession for BBQ/grilling everything and everywhere? And on balconies if you live in a block of flats - that's desperate and not really thoughtful.

People usually grill the swans which they caught in the lake.

Easy catch, hah! ;)

Life / Which cities in Poland have the most expats, and why? [34]

It akes you rather an immigrant. But depending on your professional profile, you may also be an expatriate. The definition of whom is "a highly skilled professional going abroad in order to perform a contract or permanent work" or something to that mater...
