USA, Canada / If America is so bad, why move here? [254]

My BMI states at 6'6 I should weight around 220 lbs.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what a BMI says. Damn thing is a waste of time.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

I don't get why you would need a sauce to go with a pizza. Why not make the pizza with the sauce already on it?

Always bugged me that. Who wants to put ketchup on something that has a tomato base to it..... The Poles I guess :/

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1303]

This could be a way of keeping Turkey out of the EU - make it illegal to consume doner kebabs except when sober ;)

In Krk the kebab of choice was Chicken.... how many chicken breasts went raw onto that spike.... god help me.

Reminds me of one story, my ex fiance took me out one night for a meal and we both got completely wasted. One way home after me unable to stop my hiccups and drunkeness i decided to buy a kebab. We ate it walking home and got in our bed nice and cosy. Next day she was up at the moment of dawn to go to work. It was raining outside. so she opened her umbrella only for my kebab to fall out and hit her on the head. She came back up to our flat and I thought she would go mental but to my surprise she couldnt stop laughing. One cos i was so drunk that walking home i stuck my kebab in her umbrella, and two that i had no idea that i spent 30 minutes in the local 24hr shop hiccuping trying to order beers and certain other things ;)

Nights like that really make me love Poland so much. It had nothing to do with living in Poland but just because it happened there....hell yeah :)

koszary is about 10 km from limanowa ( nearest town). its about an hour and a half south of krakow. it is surrounded by the beskid wyspowy mountains. am not talking himalayas here but i did get to try lots of food from farmers....i was happy bunny:)

I know it well, just not that name :)

I used to spend my NYE parties in Roznow and Nowy Sacz :)

Pam is probably a fan of Quorn products. I'm not saying that's good or bad, just sayin

I dont think she is, she is open to ideas and I bet if you were to show her exactly how veal is raised she would be happy to eat it. Plus I doubt really that she is that snobby about food. We all have our personal likes ;)

i love my meat...just wont eat veal on principle :)

I would suggest you should :). Well in the UK now anyway. In the past there were some shocking stories but nowadays it's great meat and the animals are treated just as well as any other. Even more so since they tend to have shorter lives. Many animals are killed at the point of birth, chickens being the greatest proportion and these days everyone should be doing their best not to waste food.

but i end up scraping all burnt bits off. you might as well be eating charcoal otherwise

You could say that. And to be honest it's not about "the food" that makes the whole bbq experience. Also most folk who host bbqs tend not to know how to cook on them. Key is to have different elevations from the heat source. That way you CAN cook the meat properly without burning anything.

IT IS BURNT FOOD lol!

the sausage is fine. Have you never eaten at a bbq?

that at other end of food scale you enjoy eating veal etc...:)

Why not? Is it better to just kill the animal and dump it? If it has been cared for properly then it is no different to eating lamb.

Speak Polish, have cash OR be willing to work hard and have something that they want. And be willing to network like mad.

Exactly, I remember when I first came to Krakow those many years ago (where did they go?). Moved with the ex and after 2 weeks of living there she buggered off back to Scotland and I was left just to get on with it, didn't know the city, the language or wtf I was doing. Took a lot of hard graft to get to where I ended up in terms of job, wages and reputation. Oh how silly I was to think I could teach private English lessons in the beginning.

Travel / How expensive is it to live in Poland in one week? [28]

Please explain in deatail how 14zl per day would be enough for someone to live.

Easy, shop at markets, dont shop by the day but shop for what u need for the month. Cook ur food and freeze it. How do you think ppl who earn 700-800 a month live? I've managed to live on a food budget of 300pln a month quite easily.

as you were on holiday you didn't have all the day to day expenses that someone who lives here would have.

I had the exact if not more expenses while on holiday. You dont find the average Pole going to pubs and cafes every day.

No I live in Scotland, but I spent a holiday in Krakow last week. I spent every night out and still it only cost me at most 500pln. If anything it's a lot cheaper in Krk these days.

after you take away money for public transport, phone credit, toiletries, clothes and other expenses that pop up how is this enough?

Quite easily, you dont buy all those products every day do you?

And that doesn't even include food or socialising which the op asked about.

100pln a week is far enough for food and shopping.

Work / Advice to schools hiring native speakers [13]

Private schools in Poland can be ruthless and that's good advice to anyone considering a teaching job here.

Some are, some aren't. Now where's Seanus? That was really for him to say.

Work / HCL 3500 PLN GROSS, Krakow [8]

You really should have checked this out earlier. I live in a village in the east and 3500 wouldn't be anywhere near enough even here. Is it too late to renegotiate? If I were in your position, I wouldn't bother coming. Sorry to sound negative but you're going to have a low standard of living on pay like that.

What the hell are you talking about?! Most employees of this company and similar earn the same amount. How the hell u think they live?

)but you ll ok and you ll gain a good experience in Krakow.

Exactly, good enough to have a happy life
