History / Why does the idea of a "Slavic Union" with Poland seem so popular on this site? [96]

Why don't you start one over at the US? If it works it can be tried in Europe next.... ;)

There already is a mexican/spanish union...they're dominating in amounts that Slav's could only make a fraction of.

Slavs are quite similar in their appearance, customs, character, mentality and this is obvious to any visitor of slavic countries.

I would say that central european slavs are quite different from eastern and southern. Especially southern since southern slavs don't particularly call themselves slavic or associate themselves with it, they prefer to link themselves with ancient, indigenous, and medieval people's of the Balkans/Mediterranean. As for the eastern Russians and similar to Russians, they seem to be in a whole different world than Poles and central Slavs. Also Southern Slavs have little R1a in their blood which is most commonly the genes of original Slavic tribes.

Dark green is southern Slav, Medium green is eastern, Light green is central.

History / Why does the idea of a "Slavic Union" with Poland seem so popular on this site? [96]

Yes, Crow is Serbian.

Edit: Rethinking this it sort of ticks me off, not to be a nationalist but the vast majority of Polish history is independent to Poland, Poland's existence in the modern day after it was attempted oh so many times to be wiped out by surrounding powers (whom were most time ironically Slavic) was rebuilt, maintained, and struggled for survival by people who called themselves Poles and nothing else. Not to mention Poles imported and contributed to tons of romantic, renaissance, and enlightenment ideals from the West that other Slavic countries either saw as lame or were too foreign to them. I've studied my Polish history well both in college and on my big bookshelves.... Polish culture, national identity, and ethnicity is indeed a domestic treasure. Furthermore, while in the modern day there is still anti-polish sentiment, it's because Poles in general aren't narcissistic nationalists like some Brits, French, Greeks, or Italians who bloat about their past. They'reopen minded people who seek to keep an innocent and golden identity pure, and all the past attempts at similar Slavic Unions (soviets, paritions, etc.) have failed horrible. Poland is distinct, maybe other Slavic countries should focus more on themselves and self-improvement instead of seeking a union. It would make sense for economic aid, but we all know Poland's economy is booming and with help no other than the EU's... I don't see what some Slavic union (even with Russia) could ever provide economically as their economies now are suffering greatly. Good day.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

Ummm.....did anyone notice how in the first pic Pawian posted that the astronaut on the left has his head and hands Photoshopped onto the original astronaut? lol.... I was looking at the head and it looked a bit bigger than the body and thought how the helmet shield could possibly close over it....then I looked at this bottom hand and realized that it was well oversize and cut in the edge as if out of a clipping....

lol, gotta love Communist Propaganga.

Love / Polish dating tips [40]

don't get too romantic on the first date ;)

true, but eventually all the Polish girls I have been with love romanticism... and even though this was probably correlated to their intelligence as opposed to ethnicity...they weren't as materialistic or obsessed with media labels as American girls were.

Genealogy / Polish DNA? Poles have the most genes in a group includes Balts, Macedonians and Greeks. [263]

Greeks are one of the laziest nations of the world.

No they aren't....I bet you're one of those people that looks at pictures of Greece and sees all the tourists doing that and assumes it's them.

According to Forbes and other sources Greece is among the top 10 hardest working countries:

Hours worked: 2,052

Legal allowance of vacation days: 20 days

Public holidays: 12

GDP per capita: $30,500

GDP composition by sector: Agriculture 3.2%, Industry 20.6%, Services 76.3%

Population: 10.72 million

Labor force: 4.94 million

along with Poland:

Poland

Hours worked: 1,985

Legal allowance of vacation days: 20 days (26 days after 10 years of employment)

Public holidays: 12

GDP per capita: $16,200

GDP composition by sector: Agriculture 4.1%, Industry 31.9%, Services 64%

Population: 38.5 million

Labor force: 17.01 million

and Turkey:

Turkey

Hours worked: 1,918

Legal allowance of vacation days: 14 to 26 days

Public holidays: Seven

GDP per capita: $9,400

GDP composition by sector: Agriculture 8.9%, Industry 30.8%, Services 59.3%

Population: 71.89 million

Labor force: 25.27 million (about 1.2 million Turks work abroad)

just because you see the rich and politicians exploiting the system does not mean that all the people are like that...

Life / How do Polish people see homosexuality? [152]

The whole homosexuality "issue" is an overblown politico used as a reason for lazy thinkers to be "political" and used by politicians as yet another debate card/support circuit.

Language / Is Polish amongst the best-sounding languages in the world? [123]

Hugh Laurie is the man....the absolute man...

Anyway, I do rank British as the best sounding.... then maybe French... they can swear their heads off at you and it sounds so lovely... but it gets annoying over a while.

Annoying/unpleasantness in sound also has to do with the cultural speaking rate/loudness as well. I like languages spoken at a moderate rate and smoothly....again British. But Polish which can be spoken fast and even loud doesn't bother my ears at all and I don't mind it one bit. I say this from being on the train everyday in Chicago and sitting next to these people....

annoying can be Irish spoken for a long time, Italian when it's spoken fast and loud (which it tends to be by native Italians) and it's worse in Sicily when they slur it., Spanish when it's spoken loudly, and Indian.

Then for asian languages, I prefer Chinese and Japanese....Koreans tend to drag on certain sounds/letters/words when they talk and raise their voice when they do it making it quite irritating. As opposed to Japanese which maintains it's tone and pitch quite nicely....

and of course German can be irritating when you don't understand it...I learnt German in high school, but prior I agreed with the common stereotype that German is "mean" sounding.

Also Greek can have slurring and deep vowels which sound really bad if you speak fast and in high pitch.

Oh well, that's my opinion. :-)

American English works best in songs IMO.

haha yea...Thom Yorke is a perfect example...

Life / How Safe Are the Polish Cities? [179]

Statistics never hurt anyone....judging an entire countries crime rate by people who happen to come here by mere probability and happen to have "endured" these crimes is wrong. Yes there is sympathy, but according to truth:

According to the 2007-2011 Eurostat reports on the Crime and Criminal Justice Report which uses reports filed by a countries police/sovereign system, these were the rates of intentional homicides per 100,000 individuals of that country:

Poland is 1.21 and has been gradually lowering from the late 1990's rate at 2.21.

The United Kingdom is at 1.28.

Ireland is at 1.25.

Russia is at a whopping13.0.

The Balkan average was 1.64; excluding Albania which had four times the rate than any other Balkan country at 4.5.

and Germany has one of the lowest in the world at 0.86.

I chose these countries since it seems most posters on this forum are from these places.

Other recognitions were that African countries had among the highest rates for the last consecutive decade for which such statistics were collected with rates as high as the 40's and as low as the 20's.

El Salvador has the highest rate at a horrifying 71, spiking up from 52 in 2008 and 37 in 2000.

And finally to conclude with peace, Monaco, Palau, and Iceland all had 0.00 rates.

Love / Hot Polish girls in clubs - why don't they dance/talk with the most attractive men only? [148]

very hot girls that could get any guy yet choose below average looking guys to talk/dance with.

Simple, it's Poland. The women are the hottest and the guys are average. Especially with the trends in them shaving their hair and wearing addidas sports clothing (particularly in the Summer too). hahaha

But in all honesty I'm no shallow person...beauty is in the eye of the beholder...there's no universal definition for it and what matters is that the girls are truly with the ones they love/like and not the ones you like. How would you like it if I came up to you in a club and began offending the girls you like because I don't like them? Is it any of my business? no. Is it my right? no. Is my opinion on an aesthetic superior to yours? no. Whenever I tell people about the 'eye in the beholder' they think I'm some hopeless romantic from the age of Mickiewicz when indeed it's the logical and sociological truth, and opposition is what makes a person illogically shallow and close-minded.

Love / Poland wow wife [52]

if the guy loves his country so much then why don't he go back there?

tell that to the Irish here in Chicago... I suspect this applies to countries more like Britain, France, modern generations in Italy, etc. You rarely see any of them here in the US as immigrants or first generations.

News / Polish people humiliated in the latest episode of Family Guy [51]

accuses him of being half-polish

Hey! I'm half Polish!

But the producer of that show is a douchebag,he pretty much made an episode where he made fun of Schindler's list, especially the part where he had Peter as the Nazi with the sniper rifle trying to shoot Jews out of his bedroom window.
