USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

I read a little bit of the polish worker bashing but I find it not really true. This is the old style of thinking that polish women clean houses, are housekeepers and polish men are a bad contractors. Some are, just like every ethnicity. However, many second generation polish, many even first, are the best in whatever they do. Their pride in work is appreciated and admired. I had my condo remodeled two years ago, and i had polish painters, plumbers, carpenters...and I would not change them for anybody also. All of them did a superb job. Excellent, honest and with attention to detail. There are a few, if any, polish people coming to the USA now. Too bad. I would hate to hire Mexicans or Asians workers to do the job. Forget the American construction style..quick and done with cheap materials, but charged highly. So there. The few bad apples you people come across, and your personal feeling, should not shape your opinion - try to be true and fair.

Po polsku / W dupie - w Polsce lekarz zarabia mniej niz fryzjer? [32]

lekarz zarabia mniej niż fryjer???? to jest straszy I can`t believed

I heard that a beautician in Warsaw makes more than a doctor...(10,000/12,000 zl a month) is that what you're referring to? People (women) are willing to spend more on a haircut and hair color than on their physical. Pretty sad, but is it true?

Food / Is brain-damaging vegan fad growing in Poland? [176]

Moderation is the key. My friend in Florida practices raw food diet, and then she will stuff herself with sweets and a cappuccino with 5 spoons of sugar...it beats me why she torture herself with nasty, fresh squeezed juices first, only to kill her good intentions with sugar.

But she doesn't get it. It is a fad. Veggies are good and I love 'em but I want some meat with it too. So there.

News / POLISH CHILD ABUSING A CAT.. [74]

Anytime I hear about animal abuse, I wish there was a law to do the same to the supposedly 'human' who mistreats animals. We are not talking about bears an lions here. It is up to us - people - to respect them, and stay away from their path. Wild animals are not pets.

But, in this case, a cat...poor cat. I chose not to see the clip, I can only imagine the human animalistic kid doing it. I blame the parents, as somebody above said, children are not born bad. It up to the parents to teach the children respect for other people, animals, nature..you name it.

Love / Online matrimonial - a good way to find a true Polish man/woman on the net? [51]

You are right about the 'foreign country' matches. If it happened that I met a polish man who would fall in love in me, and then later, I learned that he was here illegally, it would sure put me on guard. Does he really love me or is it about papers? I understand what you wanted to say Exaggerated, but it sounded a little bit like bashing the meeting on-line. Or, maybe I misunderstood your intentions, and for that I'm sorry.

Love / Online matrimonial - a good way to find a true Polish man/woman on the net? [51]

What a wise head you have on your shoulders.

blushing Gee, thanks. Ten years ago, a couple would not admit to their friends and family at first if they met on-line. Not today, they announce it without a blink. Really, it is just another place. I know, I will look into it some day when I'm ready. A grocery store, a hardware store, the library, workplace, school, the friend of a friend blind date...all good, but not as productive as on-line :)

Love / Online matrimonial - a good way to find a true Polish man/woman on the net? [51]

ended up in an unfortunate divorce.

I'm sure there is plenty of scam on line and what you described, but even high school sweethearts are getting divorced. Right? Just recently, I read that 4 out of 10 couples meet on-line and get married. I personally know three couples who met this way and are happily married. So, it is a meeting place just like any other, got to be cautious anywhere. I met my ex at a bar. Is he my ex because we met at a bar? Nope.

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

So, what's your rating Fuzzy? I'm afraid that your rating will confirm the reason I'm in USA, especially when it comes to Quality of life.

1. I give 5 (It mostly sucks, even though my family thinks that they've got it all)
2. I give 8 (excluding old ladies like someone said) lol.
3. I give 7 (maybe because I really like Mediterranean food)

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

kinda stupid and old now and not really worth discussing.

Exactly. I never heard the expression 'Plastic Polak" until this thread. This delphiandomine dude has some serious issues.

I feel saddened to hear that some think that because I was taken from Poland as a young child that I am no longer polish.

Girl, don't even think that. There is nothing stronger in this world than blood ties with your family and with your birth country.

History / Effects of Living under Communism in Poland [58]

I held the door open for 7 elderly folk today and only one said thanks.

I think it is more about expectations. Old women, pregnant women, even the young ones always expected the man to open and hold the door for them or to give up their seat on the bus. It was your job, so why say 'thank you'? And, if you as a man did not do that, others will be happy to remind you your duty. :)

You were a rebel just for listening to radio Free Europe.

That's true. I was just a kid watching my father with his ear pressed against the radio and trying to hear what 'Voice of America' or 'Radio free Europe' has to say on UKF I or UKF II. Arrgh...the sounds, the squeaking coming out of the radio...with an occasional, audible sentence... He was turning the volume higher and higher, until my mom screamed 'turn it down! the neighbors can hear it and will tell on you!"

My post-commie leftovers? I totally do not trust what I hear on the news, if it is political. Especially now. I listen to different stations and make my own conclusions.

What I miss? Walking at night alone as a kid or a young adult knowing that nobody will attack me.

UK, Ireland / Why British men move to Poland [63]

/Real_brides.htm

This looks like a bridal website for Plus size women in UK. What does it have to do with the title of the thread? Silly.

Looking at the pictures, there is definitely a market for jumbo women, some men love them just the way they are, and shouldn't it be that way? I thought 'size' did not matter. :)

Life / Welcome to winter in Poland! (-19C tomorrow) [64]

Thanks wildrover. We'll get a shi&load at some point. The times when I wore winter boots twice during the winter ended about a decade ago. My new pair is on a standby in the closet.

BTW.

She tells me she was out all day today in a short skirt and a thin jacket....its minus 15 in Moscow...!!

You got yourself a pretty hot chick, man.

Food / Polish Duck Soup [117]

I recently heard that there is a store in Chicago around Devon/Western (Russian or Mexican owned) which has live domestic birds and rabbits. They kill them and clean on the spot for you. I think this would be a good place to get the duck blood for all the czarnina eaters.

I see if I can find out more details.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Aphro, don't worry about the nit picking in z_d and fuzzy's posts! Spelling, weather 'dramas'...Geeez, relax you two. Aphro said she just writes, she does not edit or spell check, she is typing her thoughts and not trying to win a spelling bee contest. Got it?

So, girl keep on reporting from your life in Poland rain or shine, frost or blizzard, windchill or windshield! OK? :)

I'm glad you are all settled fairy quickly as you say with a few glitches here and there. It is the 'glitches' that I like to read about. Hehehe.

Does your everyday life seem 'normal' now? Is Canada just a distant memory? (I think that's what z_d doesn't like)

USA, Canada / PolAm style Thanksgiving? [35]

I'd say so. I never found any kapusta and sausage items on the table on that day. However, years ago I was invited to my Italian friend's home for Thanksgiving and there was a variety of pasta dishes served with the roast turkey...Still, it was great.

Life / What is the best city in Poland to live in? Relocating to Poznan? [41]

There is common opinion that they are scum collected from whole Polish countryside.

That's what my two friends considering themselves 'true warsawians' tell me... They really live there for generations and are very nice.
They hate that Warsaw is so full of peasants who came from neighboring villages and from allover the country in the early 80's. Many uneducated and rude, knowing how to work the elbows in the crowd. Well, it's been a while. I'm sure their kids born in Warsaw since then are different. I myself had a good impression of the city on my last visit, but I did not take any tramway rides...

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [682]

The facts and the truth being Russians using a giant magnet to bring president's plane down

That's a funny truth. Giant magnet! LOL.

All of the european union, the u.s.a and the russians are rubing thier hands and laughing that they got rid of the Polish opposion which was against their agenda since Poland refused to coperate in their polictical bullshit ways.

Since the trip was pretty much impromptu I don't think Russians had any chance to prepare the 'take down' of the plain (the magnet?). :) However, I agree that EU, Russia and USA can be quite happy with the outcome. LK did not dance to their tunes, he was constantly on the way... the problem got 'solved' due to the unfortunate accident.

News / Local elections in Poland, EU citizens should register to vote [57]

the general population doesn't like PiS

pawian:
IMHO: PiS must be stopped.

I hope you don't go postal, Pawian. Get some help.

1jola, can you tell me what's good about PiS? Polonia seems to like them, not sure why- but I don't. The duck only creates hatred and confusion amongst people. He's gotta go, really.

News / 100 days of Komorowski presidency [41]

My family in Poland thinks he is doing a good job under the circumstances he inherited after LK. A 100 days is not enough to judge him yet.

On the other hand..Obama..oh, never mind.
