Law / Weapon Law in Poland: what kinds of knives are legal? [35]

the only knives banned in Poland are the knives hidden in the objects that do not look like bladed weapon, like combs or belt buckles etc.

there are restrictions on that if you go to the events like concerts or sport events of course (and rightly so).

News / Should Polonia and expat Poles lose voting rights in Polish elections? [74]

vast majority only visits Poland from time to time.
As I wrote previously- after years living abroad and with no clear intention of coming back to Poland one shouldn't vote. UK has a quite streightforward rules about that- you live more than 15 years abroad, you lose your voting rights (until you are living again in the UK). I'd say 10 years would be a better cut-off period.

instead of that i'd love to see Poles to be more interested in the politics of countries they have chosen to emigrate to.

/// crap it cut the quoted post of amiga500

News / There is no Poland without the Church! [178]

aye, it will.
there will always be handsome altar boys to seduce.

but seriously- it's current marriage with PiS politicians will not work for it well.
judging from how much power it used to have, and how much power does it have now- one cannot ignore that they are in steady decline. apart from italy and poland krk isn't really that much important anymore.

UK, Ireland / A Polish national getting a UK Passport [5]

You have a right to UK citizenship, which you will need to get before you are entitled to a passport.
Once you have your UK citizenship, you can apply for a passport.

Technically, he doesn't. He still has to apply for it and it may not be granted. Luckily, he wont have to take exams, as people over 65 yo don't have to take them.

However, if one asks me, living somewhere for almost a half century and nof having citizenship of that country is...weird

UK, Ireland / Help needed in registering a surname change in Poland [8]

First, do you have Polish or Polish and British passport?

In any case you need to use a sworn translator to translate the deed poll into Polish and then go to the USC (urząd stanu cywilnego) in the place where you used to live and fill out an application for the name change. You need to have your British paperwork (passport if possible, but the driving licence etc will do too) with you as a proof you are, indeed, using your surname. It may take a week or five but eventually you will be given an updated birth certificate which you will have to use when applying for new Polish passport.

It is quite important you state here your citizenship status, or if you are (legally) British citizen or "just" Polish

Law / Polish Police and Their Tactics [181]

Considering that you can be arrested for taking photos of them in public then i wouldn't try to run. From the other hand they are strong only when they counter adolescents and women, so good luck anyway

News / In increasingly chaotic world, diaspora of Poland moving back to Poland an masse? [71]

quite a lot of Poles living in the UK have no intention in assimilation. they don't know the local culture, and they don't care about it. watching Polish TV (now it's a rarer view, but you can see Cyfrowy Polsat not too rarely in the British towns), eating Polish food and meeting Polish friends, mating with other Poles as well.

on the end they end up not being in any way 'local' in locals' view, but they will be somehow too changed to be 'local' in their local towns.

News / Thousands of Polish women attend Czarny Piątek rally in Warsaw [780]

Forcing women to birth defected children that will die in pain in few hours is a disgusting type of barbarity.

If someone supports such ban on "religious reasons" than its another reason to tell that religion to gtfo

Language / What does Janina translate into in English? [27]

It doesn't matter if one is a perfect translation or not. It's the name that's on the documents or not. That's all that matters.

News / Should Polonia and expat Poles lose voting rights in Polish elections? [74]

Someone who haven't been living in Poland in the last 10 years (or at all!) should not have the voting rights. they don't pay the taxes (as they live elsewhere), and- most importantly- wont face the consequences of their choice.

it's a bit different story if, for example, someone has emigrated to earn money for business/house etc and is coming back after a couple of years (or so)- then I think they should be allowed to partake in the elections only if they already know they will come back to PL (i.e. they already have dates) in foreseeble future (but not 'one day').

2. caly swiat tam swoja produkcje przeniosl. wszyscy chcieli sie bogacic.

Language / Cultural disparities shown through Polish and English languages [171]

Can the language elasticity be controlled by scholars? I thought languages evolve naturally, on their own.

Unlike most European languages, English doesn't have a single body that decides 'what's correct' and what's not. Poland, sadly, has RJP which decides which forms are 'proper' (even if they are in wide use) and which are not.

Also, the decades of building national identity made people consider different forms of language as inferior, it's fought against in the schooling system ("use proper language!") and considered socially backward. even today big part of Poles do not consider Kashubian as a seperate langauge, but as a 'corrupted' Polish. Their attitudes towards Silesian are even worse.
