News / What does Poles think of European superstate? [48]

Exactly. Europe's longest period of peace and prosperity.

Yeah, because without blessed EU... what would happen ? Gerries would invade someone again ? So how come putting the same Gerries (as that what "super state" will be) in charge of the whole continent would be so super cool ? You EUnuchs and your logic.

Law / How much do Polish people actually pay in taxes? [12]

I believe that once you come to live in Poland permanently, (i.e. more than 186 days a year) and have your base in Poland (i.e. prime residency)

That is correct but in case of employees, who carry out work in Poland, there's no doubt where their "base" is, while in case of let's say German or British retired people, who rent/own some property in Spain or Portugal, where is their "base" ? Who can tell If they spend 200 days a year in Germany and 165 in Portugal or the other way around.

Here it is in case of PL/Swiss -> przepisy.gofin.pl/przepisy,4,15,82,178,,,konwencja-miedzy-rzeczapospolita-polska-a.html -> Art. 4, point 2 c)

Law / How much do Polish people actually pay in taxes? [12]

Is there a way to calculate approx. how much taxes I will pay?

That's a good question, in theory all the income (including foreign retirement) should be taxed in Poland (18/32%) but as far as I'm aware there are 2 more issues:

1. Bilateral agreements between countries on avoiding double taxation.
2. If you are living in both countries, a bit here a bit there (or at least can claim so) and it's not possible to prove where your "primary residency" is, then goes the citizenship rule - you pay taxes only in the country which you are a citizen of.

So I think there's a chance you won't have to pay any income tax here but it would be good to confirm that with some tax professional and If I were you, I would rather pay to get that on paper just in case.

News / Poland's Sejm passes anti-terrorist act; opposition negate [86]

it's just a shame to witness Poland's transformation to totalitarianism. When I first came here in September 2013, things were great, but now it's deteriorating.

If you are so clueless about what's going on here, better leave.

USA, Canada / Will a Bachelor's degree from Poland be recognized by an American university? [5]

These days people, who want to study anything/anywhere should first of all think why they really want to get that diploma... Univ level education became so common that only top 1% of "universities" make any impression on employers, on the other hand in vast majority of cases you won't even get to the interview phase without having a sort of degree... I think a good approach would be getting a degree the easiest possible way and invest saved time into either learning something actually useful or getting some work experience...

A "clown degree" + Chinese or Arabic would get you much farther than a "good" degree.

Work / What salary can be asked at IBM Poland? [67]

10 000 PLN per month or per annum? if per month then it is not much less than what president of Poland earns

Actually Prez makes 20k + free housing and pretty much free everything... 10k is much more than what majority of people are making but majority here is simply poor... 10k gross is decent but not any luxury.

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

barely won the presidency

Or "democrats" just faked it...

They don't need to send tanks in. It's enough to suspend the CAP payments to Polish farmers.

So how mighty "they" are going to do it ? Junkers and other fockers own that money about as much as you or I do.

Work / Szczecin - 10.000 Gross salary for a couple with child [7]

For employees there are two income tax rates - it depends on the sum of annual income. With that salary I think you will reach the higher rate near the end of the year. But If your wife won't work or will have low income, you can avoid it.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

You do realise that PiS spent 8 years (and counting, they're still doing it) criticising and insulting Poland?

Childish nonsense as usual. There obviously is a difference between describing how the state institutions "worked" and giving interviews to foreign press saying that "Poland is full of xenophobia and anti-semitism" which "Adaś" did again and again. He's an enemy within.

the UK is one of the least xenophobic societies in the world

UK saint, as usual. Quite a few non-English residents wouldn't agree with that.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

I'd respect you a lot more if you just admitted that you hate him because you think he's Jewish.

I hate him because he played a key role in securing the safe landing for high level commies after the fall of PRL and that's not only a historical issue, it lead to terrible pathologies and the effects are still here in the friggin 2016. I hate him because he is a nasty propagandist. I hate him because he hates anything patriotic and push forward the nastiest version of liberalism.

There are decent Jews too (Wildsteins for instance) and I have always thought highly of Israel, I think in many areas that should be a role model for Poland. Diaspora Jews tend to be a different matter as they play a significant role in pushing liberal madness, multi cult etc. upon both Europe and America. Let's be honest, If I hated him because he's a Jew, I would say that.

Bullying is rife, if it is not one thing it would be something else.

I could agree with that somehow but let's be honest, If Harold or another "expat" opened yet another thread about some black dude, who visited Poland and now cry because people were "staring at him" or somethin, you would likely be there screaming racism.

Genealogy / Looking for an old region/town/providence in Poland [8]

Ternpoleleszczyszyn

I really doubt it is 1 word. This

leszczyszyn

Ternpole

might be indeed Tarnopol although Uks (as It is in Ukraine now) call it Ternopil.

Intelligence service monitoring 60 soldiers

expatica.com/be/news/Flanders-Intelligence-service-monitoring-60-soldiers_680253.html

It's a matter of time that, during some "anti-terrorist" operation, Belgian, Dutch or French policemen/soldiers will start shooting at one another.

Much better, probably

In 55 years ? That will likely be a period of Balkan style cruel wars going on since years, between Muslims and infidels. With Londonistan being an official name of one of the city-states.

There are already islamists inside of European armies and police forces. Not 1, 10 or 100 but many more. You crazies won't wake up until it's far too late.

The point is, Greggs, that he didn't

Because you were there hiding in the crapped closet ?

even if he did.....if you think that what this 'lady' did was reasonable

I'm not saying that was reasonable but I can understand that cleaning someone's crap off the floor is not a cool thing to do... I would likely lose my nerves too... weather these guys did that or not is unknown... but let's be honest, it didn't come out of nowhere... quite a few British do such thing and thinks it's somehow "cool", well it isn't... perhaps they just became victims of stereotypes... I understand not all British people crap the floor but some do...

News / Why has the US dollar reached almost 3.99 zł in Poland? [56]

now suddenly you're claiming that it's a great investment

It simply is a great investment that will provide many high quality jobs, potentially several times as many in a chain of local suppliers of components and services. The only one that could match it during 8 years of PO is a VW's new factory. Let's be honest, you would love to see Poland loosing this one, so you could blame it on PiS.

The problem is that many PiS supporters, Greggy included, were very vocal against such deals being done with foreign corporations.

Like I said 100 times already, there are good foreign investments and there are the bad ones, this one is one of the best in the whole history of 3rd RP. +90% of others are either some crappy assembly lines or domestic market businesses, they deserve nothing. You first made up "they are against foreign investments !" nonsense and now try to use this made up nonsense to "justify"... something...

Dolnoslaskie is nearly twice as wealthy

Anything wealthy over there is Wrocław metro and KGHM areas, there are still powiats with unemployment rate at +20%, the one where they are going to build this factory is currently at 17%. Statistics at NUTS 2 are misleading as economic development tend to be more local.
