Poles brighter than French, Americans, Israelis and Irish...

With an average IQ of 99, Poland is tied with Spain and ahead of (in descending order) Australia, Denmark, France, Norway, United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Israel, Romania, Ireland and Greece.

One interesting thing: My country, Brazil, received immigrants from virtually everywhere and many of them clustered in few regions.

So it is a good laboratory to see how different civilization progress under the same variables.

Nowadays the most developed regions are the Mogiana (Japanese, Maronite and Italian migrants. My region by the way), Curitiba (Polish/Ukrainiam migrants) and Blumenau (German migrants). Those regions have HDI comparable to developed nations.

On the other hand, Paraiba (Yoruba/Cafuzo migrants) or Foz do Iguacu (Arabic/Guarany migrants) have very low hdi, comparable to undeveloped countries and are very violent places.

Food for tought on this interesting discussion. Congrats for starting such a interesting thread, Polonius.

Using what test? IQ tests are a load of culturally biased nonsense. They measure how good you are at doing IQ tests. Then again I can see the appeal of making 'intelligence' quantifiable. I have noticed this appeal in Poland a lot. for example my nephew ( who had previously attended school in London for some formative years) was given a prize for being "the sixth best English speaker in Polish schools" - I mean wtf is that about? who spoke to them? how did they decide who was best?.How good was their own English?

To be honest I think an obsession with IQ tests is a mark of stupidity. Ever heard of EQ?

Anyway if Polish people are so brilliant, how come the country is fecked?

Having said that, I can see why people might be good at doing these tests with a more old fashioned rote learning set-up where they will have done eg mental arithmetic

Rozumiec, IQ shows how fast you are to use mathematical-logical reasoning.

EQ is politically correct bullsh1t. It gives you a higher score if you are "tolerant" to someone slapping the face of your own mother.

You don't need to do an IQ test to know that IQ tests are feckin stupid

Hahaha, yea, I've heard of stupid crap like this too. Idiotic really, but sure, look, it makes the parents think that the school is actually doing something

how come the country is fecked?

One of the reasons was that cirumstances forced the Poles to sit out the culturally prolific 19th century -- a time of stepped-up foreign travel and cultural sharing. That was largely when the outside world first learnt about Russian vodka, caviare, ballet, Tolstoi, Chekhov and Dostoevsky; French gourmet food, champagne, cognac and vintage wines, Dumas, Hugo, Verlaine, impressionists, the Eiffel Tower; gin & tonic, fox hunts, Scottish bagpipes, Dickens, Carroll, Kipling; Italian opera and pasta, the Spanish corrida, Dutch windmills and tulips, etc., etc. The Poles meanwhile had seen their country carved up and sheer national survival was at stake, hence culture had to become prominently Polonocentric and largely unintelligible to the outside world. Therefore only exiles like Chopin, émigrés like Skłodowska-Curie and translinguals like Conrad could achieve any measure of international prominence. A mere 20 years of a freedom and another half-century of foreign subjugation. Now Poland finds itself in a state of economic subjugation, another situation conducive to imitation of things foreign rather than the development of an exportable, authetnic Polish culture.

I don't care much about tests like that or some comparisons that are being made between nations. However and it must be said taking only PF as an indictor I wouldn't be so sure about that they got it wrong:)

how come the country is fecked?

You ask that question again and again. Let me quench your curiosity. Too much freedom and peaceful policy impaired ability of the country to repel and destroy for good dangerous and tyrannical predators on its borders.

All the rest are only consequences of that fact.
The fact that Poland still exists is just an enormous success in itself.

oh right yes of course it does...:) you just keep telling yourself that.
London is the economic capital of the world, I am not sure if you have noticed that...:)
That is why the inhabitants of lesser, crappier countries, come flocking like sheep here to work.

Although to be honest G., I am not really nationalistic. It is what it is.

Excuse me if I sounded rude. But one cannot help when visiting Poland to notice the vast amount of people that are simply....not there.

And largely attributable to the One Holy, Apostolic, Catholic Church. As Mickiewicz so eloquently put it: Tylko pod krzyżem, tylko pod tym znakiem, Polska jest Polską a Polak Polakiem.

Have you ever heard of Communism and WW2? Maybe for you Brits it means nothing.
Poland was surrounded by two powers.
UK was barely scratched.

Whats your prob;em roz, have you turned into a troll, I speak Polish, I have lived in poland for 3 years now, everyone has accepted me as a fellow Pole, I get invited and partake in all the local functions, the priest comes to bless my house and pray with me each year, my mum ( Who is Polish too wants her ashes scattered here on the farm, my fathers wellies (from when he worked as a builder in the uk with his irish buddies) are burried on top of the hill after i finally wore them out,.

sadly my dad died and is buried in the uk, but his tombstone reads in polish and english here lies a soldier of the Polish II corps,

"Lucky nobody said that to your parents eh?" oh they did nazi salutes an all , after all they used to call me a white wog for good measure

I am very much the son of that soldier who fought for his country and died in exile.

So who are you?

Back on topic please

look i dont want to disrespect your parents or anything, but surely you do see the irony of the child of immigrants bleating about 'foreign wazzocks'.

One of my parents was an immigrant too so really no offence. I do understand what you are saying about racist stuff. so why join in with it now?>

I believe my grandfather fought in the trenches of world war one but I am not basing my identity around it.
