Study / Shocking! Test standards in Polish schools. [165]

Actually French is only compulsory from 11 to 14 (years 7 to 9) after that most drop languages as they are not deemed useful.

As for the paragraphs the OP posted, they were not grammatically correct, but understandable at the same time, seems like grammar isnt top of the list for teachers in Polish schools.

Love / Polish girls want to be dominated. Fact? [63]

Question for any women on this board: after all this why does she continue to send me photos of kittens, etc., with messages saying "Ooo.. so adorable! Should I get one?" Is this normal for a Polska? It frankly kinda freaks me out.

Send her a photo of your nob and ask if she'd prefer that instead? :D

Work / My friend is looking for a job in Poland with a physics degree [32]

besides research and teaching, what other jobs can physicists get?

Quite a lot of people who work in high level banking have physics degrees or at least they do in the UK, could be different in Poland, then there is also engineering...so fs, there are lots of jobs open to those with physics degrees / masters and PHDs

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS IT ABOUT POLISH PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM THINK THAT UK WANTS THEM? [309]

in UK it's about 70 pounds a month depending on the child.

£87 for first child per month

£58 for those that follow

So its not a bad screw for those with a few kids!

Anyway it's really all peanuts in the greater scheme of things.

10 euros is, nearly £100 isnt when its coming out of the tax payers pocket!

This country welcomes hard working honest decent people but even Ive heard Poles (the few Ive known) moan about the trash that had followed them here...

As far Poland I was lead to understand child benefit is means tested and quite hard to obtain.

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS IT ABOUT POLISH PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM THINK THAT UK WANTS THEM? [309]

spends billions of pounds in war s

War has always created jobs - jobs fuel the economy.

exactly Marek, like I said, its peanuts when you look at the bigger picture.

pennies make pounds (you know the saying, look after the pennies and the pounds wil take care of themselves!) therefore its worth looking at the smaller picture and realising that for everything £1 taken out of the tax coffers it affects us all in a big way...hospitals, schools, libraries, funding for associated costs for the elderly..the list is endless..constantly blaming bankers is merely a way of shifting blame, this country was on skid row long before the banking system went tits up..

Language / Need Advice On Polish-English language barrier (my Polish boyfriend and his family) [59]

MinaD

It would seem they dont really care that you dont speak Polish if you're not living in Poland, Im working with a Chinese girl who is married to a Polish guy (3 years married 4 years together in total) and she speaks less Polish than me!

She said when he gets mad he shouts in Polish, so I tought her a phase :)

Przepraszam, nie mowie po polsku. - and told her to smile afterwards, maybe he'll teach her a little bit more in future ;0)

Good luck, its bloody difficult to learn!

Love / Met this gorgeous Polish lady [27]

met this gorgeous polish lady the other week. been on a few dates and must say she is totally different to the english girls Ive dated (which is a good thing)

yawn yawn yawn, your failings with English ladies is your problem, not theirs..

run buddy, run.

Hun, I cant wait to see his posts in a few weeks when he bemoans about Polish women being the sporn of the devil! :D

Just wondering what to do and not to do. as obviously culture differences are massive and I dont want to insult her or put my foot in it in anyway.

Where do you think Poland is?

My own experience, coupled with much anecdotal evidence, suggests that these shiny apple Polish girls are often rotten inside. They have learned the power of their looks over us blokes and turn it to their advantage. You may have been lucky this time - and I do hope so - but watch for the tell-tale signs: prying into everything you do, using emotional blackmail to get her own way, making you jealous with other guys...JUST BE CAREFUL!

That could be any female...

This is cute!! :D But just because she is Polish, does not mean you have to make different precautions then you would with a girl of your own nationality.
Just be polite, dont rush anything, be interested in her origins and listen occasionally :P

This is why he couldnt make it with girls of his own nationality...he obviously doesnt know how to treat a "woman"...Not cute, rather tragic...

You're completely right. In Poland, giving flowers is a polite way of saying "I hope you die in a fire" and a gift of chocolates is only done on February 30th. In contrast, looking a Polish woman in the eye and saying outright "it's time for us to have sex" is the only way to initiate coitus; you must do it by the third date or she'll presume you are gay.

Love it!

Language / The shame! I can't pronounce my Polish wife's name (Ola) [69]

They either a) are trying to be nice or b) like your exotic accent.

I think Wulkan was saying that his girlfriend and her friends have no problem saying Ola, I dont understand how someone could get it wrong, as for Orla, thats an Irish way of saying it...all down to accent, the OP, it would seem has an accent that makes it difficult to say it correctly and keeps putting an "r" sound in there..I have to say it would peeve me.

youtube.com/watch?v=kH4U8RPICgA

Now isntead of staying Olay, put an "a" instead of the "ay" sound...simples!

Love / Met this gorgeous Polish lady [27]

I think that Polish girls are a bit more conservative and well-mannered than British ones and that's definitely a good thing,

You need to stop drinking in Weatherspoons hun, it attracts are certain type.

not mentioning the fact they're considered much prettier. :)

Plenty of pretty English girls out there, it might be that you live in an ugly area like Birmingham where they all seem to look dog rough and sound slightly retarded.

But if you think Polish girls are so pretty you should take a trip to Croatia, you'd change your opinion as soon as you land in the nearest town / city they are effortlessly stunning and very elegant, not a scrach of make-up on the majority and look like they've just walked off a catwalk, even as a straight female I could appreciate their beauty, the men arent bad either :D

News / About fifty injured after two trains collide in Poland [73]

Yes terrible. The trains between Warsaw and Krakow are ok but the railways are in such a derelict state + the whole railway system is not properly monitored in Poland, it is like in India.

Bit of an ignorant thing to say in light of recent events, even the most modern railway systems can have horrific accients..google Potters Bar.

I hope they find out who was to blame for this and they are punished, it's generally human error and this most likely could have been prevented this from happening, trust me Ive was involved with several enquries whilst seconded to Network Rail where the smallest thing could have caused devistation on the railway system (hate travelling by train now!)

RIP to those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

Life / History of Dzień Kobiet (Women's Day) in Poland: [13]

I think I'll give Inernational Womens day a miss, I walked through Piccadilly gardens in Manchester last night and saw banners on the railings pormoting it along with lesbian rights (what rights do they want? Ive got gay female friends who are professionals who are doing just fine without having to tell the world about their sexuality!) and rights to work for famale assylum seekers - all singing something along the lines of "we shall over come" ...oh dear :( If thats what its about its not for me...Besides women bang on about equal rights, lets start an international Mens day!

My other half buys me flowers all the time, he doesnt need an excuse..

.

I bought my chick a buttload of carnations and some chocolate. She was thrilled and I felt like a mensch. There's no harm in any of that.

Thats lovely, but you could do that any day of the year, just to show her that she's special :D

News / What is the population of Poland's non-european minority? [142]

We can encourage multiculturalism everywhere at the same time.

It doesnt work, look at England, it has failed, we have no go areas for white English people, Muslims calling for Sharia law and India as a country will always secretly dispise Britain because of colonialism (yet happy to work in call centers which are British owned!) same as Africa, its not safe for white people living there (in SA), so whilst you can bang on about multi-culti and say how lovely it is, its never going to work, its failed all over Europe - because of lack of integration, Im not saying all none Europeans fail to integrate, Afro Caribians came here and mixed well and and so do a lot of Chinese people who have settled and are 2nd and 3rd generation, but for the most part people form their own communities and dont want to be part of the wider community in the country to which to have chosen to settle in..Im not saying the English are perfect when they go abroad to live, but I think they try more now since most countries like France and Spain do not pander to them, the kids have to learn the language because if they dont, they're not going to be offered any extra assistance..so its sink or swim! Or go private which many cant afford.

So whilst its a lovely idea that everyone can get along and all mix it up, the reality is, its a mess and has is causing mass resentment across Europe, the land mass and limited resources can not cope with the massive influx of those who want to escape the povery and corruption in their own countries - it cant go on forever, hence the reason Britian has put a cap on immigration and other countries are clamping down too.

Law / British managers superior to Polish [52]

we visited the Olympic village in Stratford all going to plan, t

Hate to pee on your pardade but this has gone way over budget and the security throughout the games is going to run into millions of £££ so whilst it all looks nice and shiny and new, dont think for one minute everything has been perfect (my old company has done the security systems and designed the vollyball area and the lighting for various other things so I know a little about village and its issues) - lets also not forget the back-handers and corruption involved.. The vast majority of the work was awarded to companies on the basis of you scratch my back and I'll put a few quid in your back pocket....But yes there will be people working for free same was when we hosted the commonwealth games, thats normal in all countries that host these kind of things, its not something unique to Britain.

Im sure the lack of infrastructure in Poland has all boiled down the fact they didnt have the funds to do it, which begs the qustion of why they got it in the first place?

Law / British managers superior to Polish [52]

while it may have gone over budget,

By billions, not millions...miss-management springs to mind

it will be on time and it makes Londoners proud to host the games.

I think you wil find that, that extends to British people, not just those south of Watford!

As I have previously mentioned there are many good British companies who have the experience to get the job done for Poland.

Now that did tickle me, considering the majority of these "British" companies employed foreign labour to get the job done and bypassed locals who are indiginous to this island...Not to mention they blocked companies outside of London! (we won all the work through out London office!)..You really have no idea about the politics that were involved in this shambolic mess that has cost the government billions..do you realise how many new school projects and hospitals have been axed because of it? All because we want to look great to the world..Its a disgrace!

Thank you for your post.

You're welcome :)

Love / Indian wife wants divorce from her Polish husband just after two months. [52]

Until your husband actually divorces you and final papers are served you are legally able to reside in the UK and able to continue your studies, you may even qualify for home student fees because you are a family member of an EU person, but to do this, you need to get your family member resident permit, which your husband will have to assist you in getting, this might be an issue if he has decided the marriage is over, in which case you might possibly be considered an overstayer because you do not have a valid visa, at present you do not qualify for retention of rights based on the marriage to a member of the EU since your marriage has only lasted for 3 months, you will not qualify for ILR on long residence since you havent been here for 10 years, basically your options are limited to say the least - if he doesnt support your permit then your only option is to go back home and apply for a student visa in order to come back and finalise your studies and even then you wont qualify to stay in the UK afterwards since PWS has closed.

Love / E-marriage - how successful among Poles? [21]

I'm just curious but why do people resort to online dating?

For many different reasons, when one goes in out in ones 20s you mix more, when one goes in ones 30s and 40s one tends to stay in ones group becuase the majority of friends are married or are in stable relationships, as already stated its just another medium for meeting like minded people, its not for everyone but some have found thier life partners through internet dating so it cant be all that bad? As the old saying goes try it you might like it...Aparently quite a few people do it these days, after all there wouldnt be so many internet dating sites if weren't popular.

News / American soldiers beat up in Torun, Łódź [141]

I wonder how many American soldiers got the tish kicked out of them in the UK when they were stationed here during the war, my guess would be a lot and now lets bring colour into it, American soldiers who were black weren't allowed in some bars...I appreciate times have moved on in the UK, but Harry should remember these facts.

Either the other 3 did not even know what was happening, they did not think it was serious, though their buddies deserved and ass kicking, or were so outnumbered, they "surrendered" without a fight.

Who cares? Men get in fights all the time, why is this such big news?

Let's face it, it was two foreign soldiers who got battered by two morons, possibly because one of them was paying too much attention to said thugs girlfriend...it was always going to end it tears if that was the case, men can be such dicks!

News / Drunken Brit beats up young Polish policewoman [62]

Kinda reminds me of that incident where a drunk Paki in the UK assaulted a girl but was let off the hook because as a Muslim he is not used to dealing with the effects of Alcohol....or how 3rd world rapists in Scandinavia get off the hook for raping Scandinavian women.

Wrong, it was 2 somali females who attacked a girl and her boyfriend..Not a paki who assulated a girl....case of chinese whispers!

I think you mean Pims or a G&T at 5pm, tea is in the afternoon and an Englishman wouldnt "munch" either.

Agreed and the idiot should have spent some time in prison as a lesson to others.

No he should have spent time in prison if the crime warrented it....

So you are saying that the trash is innocent and two police officers are liares ?

Love / Woman 23, man 47 years old. What do you think about ? [162]

And a lot of the time it just means two people meet and fall in love, they just happen to have a large age gap...Most women are self-suffient these days and chose who they wish to marry because its for love, not because they found some mug to look after them..but this can happen to men in their 20s who meet women in their 20s who want a man to "sponsor" them...No better than prostitution really.

BELEIVED IN TRADITIONAL VALUES WE BE IN 1800'S

Men generally took younger wives back in those days because generally women couldnt financially support themselves.

Love / Woman 23, man 47 years old. What do you think about ? [162]

What about men and women who are just desperate for companionship and dont care who they latch onto..you must have female / male friends who are continuously in relationships and never actually take time to learn about themselves...are they any better? they have their motives for being with a person and it's not always because they love the person, it's because that person just happens to be there...emotional or financial..you are still taking something from someone something you dont really deserve....

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Which nationalities would you recommend for Poland?

Id say those from south east asia, they mix and do well, I know a couple of chinese / english relationships which have stood the test of time and the kids are well balanced and are doing well, and tpeople form these countries dont demand special treatment, they adapt and whilst they have their own culture they dont try and force it on others.

But of course that isnt really the answer, the answer is plain, make Poland attractive for those who left so they feel they want to return, I saw at least 3 couples in tescos last night who were Polish who had kids with them...

But schools in the countryside will dwindle, people are looking for more these days, its happened in the UK, you can look forward to over crowded cities in the future, look at London it's approaching 10 million!

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Immigration is not bad--but I don't think it would work in Poland.

Small scale immigration is fine, where people integrate and take on the host country as their own - It doesnt happen over night..slowly slowly you see areas turn into places you no longer recognise..it can happen in any developed country.

Its been tried. The people at the top just steal the money/aid given. Bokasa, Mugabi, Ghadaffi, the list is endless. If you want to end this, get rid of the Swiss Bankers.

Nothing to do with the Swiss bankers...some cultures are rotton to the core and corruption is inbred and accepted as the norm.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

no doubt there are many places in the U.K that have experienced this with Poles.

Its a strange one, a lot of Poles seemed have settled in rather ethnic poor areas (I can only go off what I know in Manchester or at least in an area a few miles from where I live) but I know of a family who live next door to my friends mum who live in a nice 3 bed semi in a lovely area..so Id say it depends really because her neighbours are just like anyone else on the road, nice garden, well turned out little kids and speak English to their neighbours and even invite them to bbq's..he's a plaster (my mate has had work done by him) and his wife works in an office, so they're not high flying execs..but they have made it clear that they are here for good...and have integrated perfectly...some nationalities can, some dont seem to be capable.

Where do you think they keep the money? in their own country? in a neighbouring African country?.

Plenty off shore accounts to be had...plus, these type of people will always find a way of stashing it, stocks, shares, property..the list is endless really..

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

West or Far East, educating children in Poland does not necessarily stimulate the development of
social ties with Polish people and Polish society.

Maybe because these people have no intention of staying, but you should look on the plus side, they are not a burden on the state schooling system and they are adding to the economy by paying for their childrens private education, so in short they are paying into the system and not taking very much out...Also I very much doubt Poland employs teaching assistants who will give extra help to kids who are not native Polish speakers unlike the UK, here's a few adverts that you might find interesting just a few of many that are advertised! How much do you think this is costing the tax payer????? And you want immigrants??

UK, Ireland / My dream about UK. Please help. [86]

Noreen, just type in "Polish Teaching Assistant" in google and it will throw up many jobs around the UK.

If it is experience you want to gain, brilliant, if it's money, then forget it, its not paid very well.

My advice would be to stay away from being a nanny, you may end up being a house keeper and general dogs body.

Good luck x

Of course, he may have a point...

How rude..I'll say no more...

Work / Polish minimum wage between Luxembourg and Bulgaria [13]

Work / Polish minimum wage between Luxembourg and Bulgaria [13]

£6.50 is not high...in fact its a pittance...most struggle to live on twice that hourly rate since living in the UK is expensive (my travel alone a month costs £200)

Also minimum wage is so that people can have a decent living wage even though this is often not the case...Nowt commie about that hun, its about living in a civilised country and wanting people not to live in poverty...
