Law / Can I take the Polish written test and obtain a Polish driving licence? [28]

De facto, someone with the required residency papers will have a PESEL. Why do you keep trying to insist on proof of this? It may very well be that other driving centres (particularly in Warsaw) are being more flexible, but if you can't put a PESEL on the form, then they won't accept it in Poznan.

It used to be like this cos the offices here used to get scared when someone didnt have a PESEL, they simply didnt know what to do. Now people are finally realising that stuff can be done without this pesel and most places will accept just a passpoet or id card number. If you called the office they would indeed say you need a PESEL cos its protocol but if it was pushed they would have to accept the application without the PESEL - thats the beauty of the EU

Love / I want to meet and date a Polish man [77]

Love making is not just a physical act, with this Polish guy it is extremely emotional.

He probably cries when he thinks of his Polish wife and kids at home in Poland

Classifieds / English cuisine week in Lidl shops in Poland [203]

Cant wait for monday yummmmmm

gumishu:
English cuisine

Sorry, that made me laugh :)

Whats the joke about?? If you wanna eat cheaply in any country the food is ****. In Poland, if u want to you can live off pizza and Kebab. Tell me what is so **** about English food? Everytime I ask this to Poles who make fun of Eng food they cannot answer, they just say that theyve heard about it.

Bear in ming that Delia Smith, Nigella Lawson, Gary Rhodes, Rick Stein, Grdon Ramsey etc all come from the UK and are world famous.

Poland has that wannabe Polae form france and that fat guy who cooks on the streets of the world. Hardly world famous.

Law / People who have their businesses in Poland must update or face a fine [19]

I found out today that all people who have a dzialnosc must update it by the end of the year or face a hefty fine. I know this applies in Trojmiasto but ud better check other areas of Poland.

I was talking to a freind who works for urzad miasta and he told me they are hoping to catch a load of ppl who dont update their dzialnosc and hit them with heavy fines.

USA, Canada / Differences in How Polish People Raise a Child and How Americans Raise a Child [149]

The situation Elmhurst tom described is exactly what goes on at my house.

By all my neighbours and my wifes family I am considered a very bad father. Basically my child fell over the other day and cut his knee. He came crying to me and I put a small plaster on it and gave him a sweet and he was right as rain and continued playing. Thewife got on the phone to her mum and they were cursing me rotten that I didnt do sth more.

Also, I would not allow the child in bed with us after the age of 6 mths nad now when he sleeps over babcias he even requests his own room (when u see the in law, I wouldnt want to be in bed with her either). They curse me and ask me what I have turned this child into and I just tell them 'a healthy, young man', not a snivelling litlle brat like his cousin.

My child got into the habit of biting. His babcia and mum would just tell him to stop it and give huim a hug so biting became associated with the pleasure of a hug. Only onec he bit me and itwas the last time because I bit him back, not too hard but just enough to teach him a lesson. If he starts pullin hair I will do the same too. I am a monster for doing this apparently.

Polish parents are certainly too overprotective. They will use the dotor for the slightest splutter. My wife's sisters' kid has lost most of his toddlerhood cos he was in and out of the doctor for the slightest ail. They paid for a preschool for him and he has been twice cos he always comes back ill. Babaies dont need to be wrapped up in cotton wool, they need to explore the world and all its perils

Work / City and Guilds Pitman examinations [3]

I have been out of the teaching profession for ages now so I have a question about the above exams which I'm hoping someone can answer.

My wifes employer wants to send her to do a C2 level exam and cant decide between the cambridge and Pitman exam. How do theyt differ? Is the pitman recognised around the world?

Please help me cos ultimately the decision is in my wifes hands not her employers

Law / On the spot payment with Police (ticket) in Poland? [25]

You can't get an ID card as an EU national - we get a piece of A5 paper instead.

Sorry but there is such a thing, a Karta pobytu and it is recognised as ID and I can travel with it too. Just came back from UK using it

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

Fools!! For someone to be assasinated they need to be important
, Ducky was far from it. In fact he was rather considered a joke by most other countries. I am enraged that he os bring buried at Wawel, that should be reserved for peopel who have actually made Poland wht it is today. Why is Obamam coming to the funeral? I suspect he was invited by the Polish government to make ducky look a lil more significant

Life / Body hair-depilatories - do Polish women and men use them? [43]

All the Polish ladies I've ever seen are partial to a beardless clam. We were in Rowy during the long weekend and even though it was cold there were a lot of naked ppl on the beach - men and women and tbh there werent many hairs to share between them

Off-Topic / I need Polish nationals. Who wants to be a millionaire? [54]

WB would never entertain the idea of a pyramid scheme I'm sure. Most of the ppl on this page who criticise him are prob teachers and will remain that all their lives, and resent this fact. When I realised I was in a sinking ship I got out of teaching and opened my own biz.

Pls keep ur opinions to yourselves

Hey I would sweep horse **** (and have done so) if it meant I could live a happy life ;)

I would too and have worked many ****** jobs in my life but teaching simply didnt make me happy, neither does it make most of my friends in the industry happy, they do it cos they havent the motivation to get out of the rut.

Language teaching has had its day, I got out in time

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

So what do you expect the Police to do, but defend themselves. There is far too much aggression towards the Police in Poland. It is about time they started to stamp their authority.

I seem to remember the stink that was created by Poles not so long ago when a Polish guy who was acting agressive in a Canadian airport got tazered by the police. Why were the officers condemned thaen but in this case were perfectly within thier rites? Antoher case of POles finding someone else to blame it seems

News / Polish Policeman shoots down a foreigner in Warsaw [300]

Because the Polish guy wasn't trying to disarm an officer

We dont know any facts and we were also presented conflicting facts with the canadian story, some articals said thr man was agressive and some say he wasnt.

If it was an accident then there should be no repurcussions for the officer but if the officer shot after he retrieved the gun from the assailant then he should be charged as polise are supposed to issue two warning shots before they fire a weapon unless a firearms unit (my wifes bro is a cop).

Life / English channels on Poland's Cyfra+ [13]

there are a few bbc channels like knowledge and entertainment that I'm pretty sure allow it too.

Sorry, not on Cyfra +. I have cyfra and there are none of the BBC channels except for BBC world which is 24 hr news. The univesal channel, scifi channel, fox life, animal planet, national gfeoagraphic are the channels in which u can turn off that annoying lektor. A very limited selection unfotunately.

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

It doesnt matter if this is a factual report or not, the facts can be seen in everyday life in poland. Poles are always late, I service many weddings with my company and they cant turn up on time even for that. Secondly Poles do have the strange notion that they are invincible and nothing can touch them. They also have passing the buck down to a tee. If we consider all this then it is pretty feasible that all these factors combined to put an end to all the lives on board that plane.

News / Decoded talks inside Poland's president's plane are released in Internet [337]

TBH, Kaczynski wasnt important enough to world politics to be assasinated so no conspiracy here. Who gives a **** what was said at the end of the transcript, people died on that plane and it is likely to have been caused by the pilots or a pilot/kaczynski combination.

It is a hard pill to swallow, especially because of the fact that kaczynski was buried in wawel and if it is found that he actually caused this then its a big middle finger to all the heroes buried there

9/11 was clearly a conspiracy
